To all those that could not get their laptops to detect the new hard drive or just decided to upgrade to a new hard drive, please be aware that newer hard drives are slimmer by a few millimeters causing the sata connectors to not connect if you install the new hard drive using the given tray. To properly install it, separate the black plastic slot covering from the tray, and screw the slot covering directly to the new hard drive and carefully slot the new hard drive into place. Turn on the laptop and head into the BIOS to see if the hard drive is detected. If yes, just screw the two remaining screws to secure the hard drive. I too was confused to why my new drive was not detected until I read on the dell forums about this issue.
God damn you just saved me... spent about an hour fitting the SSD into the black metal mount the HDD was screwed into and could not for the life of me get the SATA connectors to line up 😅
I just spoke to the guys at Dell who were kind of forcing me to have the technician come out and install new hard drive and re load everything but i've just seen this video and have to say thank you first of all. You just saved me over 150 pounds! secondly, i have one question, as i'm now going to buy the part and follow your instructional, where can i get the operating system disc from, and will it only re install Windows Vista as thats what is currently on the system? Cheers

I have a dell inspiron 1525 and i had windows 10 for a year but the hard drive of 500 gb is failing. I ordered a new 500 gb and can I put windows 8 on it instead and how and where can i get a windows 8 disc or flash drive. Any help appreciated. My computer is like the one in the picture.

Hey I need your help, I have a dell 1525 with a damaged hard drive. My computer said that it may fail in the future (which it has) and now everytime I start up my laptop, it gets stuck at the little loading screen (where everything is black with microsoft windows near the bottom middle and has a scrolling green bar) and after a while it gives me the blue screen of death. If I replace my hard drive (and then re-install everything) will it work then?
Hi, I almost thought your name is Austin 😜, I have a question buddy - very glad to know I am now able to upgrade the hdd on my 1525. But was wondering if you could tell me if I could upgrade my inspiron 1525 to 1tb hdd and upgrade the ram to 8gb. Currently I have 150 gb hdd with 4 fb RAM, it's a core 2 n series laptop
have the same laptop.but with the 32 bit architecture , core 2 duo processor which can take upto 4gb ram(DDR2)..if your system is a 64 bit one then max ram can go up to 8gb(in 2 slots of 4gb each)....and my system struggled with a 1 tb hdd/ssd....so i kept that at 500 gb...dell inspiron 1525 came with different cpu s and 32 bit or 64 bit architectures.....
I have followed your instructions to put in the new hard drive but while trying to upload the new OS it says it doesn't find the hard drive. Why would that be?
Hi , I replace my screen on dell 1525 inspiron when i turn on I have a code error 0141 after the testing screen is working and did the testing twice . do I need a new hard drive ? thanks
Hi, I have the same notebook inspiron 1525, and a try to change the hard drive for a WD 500gb 5400RPM (WD5000BEVT), but the note show me the error 2000-0141, hard drive not detected. Are you have some idea how can I solve this? Thanks!
faced a similar problem wth my dell insp1525...what was happening was that when the hdd was slid in it had not connected to the sata port probably as my new hdd was 7mm and i had not used a spacer.i opened the ram/heat sink/processor hatch and could actually see and ensure the hdd docked properly into the sata slot....thereafter my hdd was detectable.this is a problem peculiar to this laptop where you cant see if the sata has docked properly just by sliding in the ssd/hdd, unlike other laptops where you lay the hdd/ssd in the bed and slide it towards the sata connectors ensuring that it has connected
Hey is there a way to fix a harddrive with out replacing it . Worst come to worst replace it but is there ... My computer is not rebooting I think its cuz my harddrive
Hmm.. this is correct. You have to re-install the operating system first BEFORE the system can recognize a boot-able device. Put the Windows disc in the tray, restart the computer and tap f12. Boot your computer to the Windows disc and follow the onscreen instructions to install the OS onto the hard drive. Once it is installed, your computer will now have something boot-able to boot to. Best of luck, please subscribe!
