Eastern State Penitentiary is known to be one of the most haunted and oldest prisions to date. Opened in 1829, this was known as the most expensive prison every built in America at that time. It even housed the famous american gangster, Al Capone. It closed in 1971 and is now owned by eastern state preservation group. Besides punishing the criminals inside it walls, it also was created to move the criminal toward spiritual reflection and change. The method was a Quaker-inspired system of isolation from other prisoners, with labor. The early system was strict. To prevent distraction, knowledge of the building, and even mild interaction with guards, inmates were hooded whenever they were outside their cells. But the proponents of the system believed strongly that the criminals, exposed, in silence, to thoughts of their behavior and the ugliness of their crimes, would become genuinely penitent. Thus the new word, penitentiary. Source: www.easternstat...
I have no idea to be honest about the car. i am guessing it kinda shows you how big the cells is
yea i seen both shows about it. Def an awesome place
Someone may have already mentioned this, but in case they didn't, here goes: In 1998 the History Channel ran a series of shows called, "The Big House". One of the shows featured a 1 hours episode on Eastern State. It was a really neat show. If a person could find it on line it would be worth watching.
Thank you for letting us know. Pretty cool way to display art
Thank You, It a good time either way
i am sure there was something but a lot of the walls have crumbled to the floor.
Thank you for posting this. It such a crazy story
That car in the cell was nuts, Wow
I have been there once awsome place hope to go back love that place.ghost Hunters and ghost adventures have Been there.
I've always been amazed by this place and places like it. Love the videos and seeing parts I didn't get to. The car as you said was probably used to show how big. Just to give a everyday visual.
From Wikipedia: "In 1924, Pennsylvania Governor Gifford Pinchot allegedly sentenced Pep "The Cat-Murdering Dog" (an actual dog) to a life sentence at Eastern State. Pep allegedly murdered the governor’s wife’s cherished cat. Prison records reflect that Pep was assigned an inmate number (no. C2559), which is seen in his mug shot...A contemporary newspaper article reported that the governor donated his own dog to the prison to increase inmate morale.[1]"
Haha I let you decide on that one Chelsea
8:38 in the left door.. A GHOST or wind
They must have taken that car in there in pieces! The doors seem short. I bet that place would be creepy in the evening or night. I was surprised not to see stuff the inmates might have written on the walls. Thank you for the video!
Yea they do offer night tours
Hey Steve you finally made it to E.Penn It certainly looks different in the day.
Very cruel place...much safer for you to film it by day..wooooooooooo..... tho it still looks creepy in the day.
Thanks for the videos
Any idea what the point was with the car in the cell?
That pictures of the dog was it really locked up there?
I wonder what did he do?
Also regarding the car, it has to do with an artist's vision:

"Tyler Held: Identity Control
Reflecting on the idea that a man is “too easily reduced to an object” when institutionalized, artist Tyler Held uses a car, stripped inside a cell, as a metaphor for relinquished individuality."
apparently yes, they locked up a dog. That picture is the real picture. Crazy isnt it?
I thought it was maybe the warden's but I guess not, so what did a dog do to be sent to prison? Crazy!!
You're zooming like you saw something... i'm getting nervous.
why was their dog in prison?? WTF
Diana Izurieta Apparently the dog committed a crime and they put it in there. Things were different back then
