This is very timely, as I'm working on some reverse engineering on something that uses a lot of PALs for address decoding too!

Nice to see that pin straightener... i have one which can take 2 sizes of chips...thought it was a custom job since it hand no markings...

I'm sad to see the HAL go, but understand completely the brick wall it was presenting. Upside is now you have ALL the room on the bench to do work now (as you pointed out in the last HAL video 👍)

The HAL and Dylan are both very well packed away, hopefully they will make a return!

    What a clever little device.

Nice. Looking forward to trying out the emulator! Always wanted to try one.

Thank you, the emulator is getting close but it wont replace the real thing. Hopefully in the near future we can make it available in a complete form!

I remember using those IC Lead Setting Tools at Quantel (such a useful thing to have around) - be spooky if that was one I'd used in Pear Tree Lane! (I did a project there that involved teaching myself about PAL/GAL/PLA stuff)

    No link to the projekt?

Sorry my bad, it's now been added to the video details!

Do you have any progress-success on making a jedec out of this dump?

It's work in progress at the moment! But eventually yes.

I don't "get" AVR bootloaders... by the time you've used ICSP to program the bootloader and then used the bootloader to load the firmware, you may as well just use ICSP to load the firmware in the first place?????

Not everyone has an ICSP programmer.
The idea of the bootloader is that the average Joe who has little to no tools can plug an Arduino board into their PC via a serial or USB port, click a button in the Arduino IDE, and load and run their code.
The average Joe probably isn't building their own boards and therefore doesn't need to program blank microcontrollers.
