They went to all that trouble to make an incredible looking and well proportioned watch and didn’t include a micro adjust clasp and made it £2-£3k too expensive!
I hope you don't take offence but I am on a mission to understand people when they comment that a watch is £x too expensive. Are you able to articulate how you arrive at a different valuation for this watch?
If I'm not mistaken, the movement is modified by IWC and based on ETA 2892 manufactured by ValFleurier. The movement is somewhat in-house but not totally. I think the watch is to expensive. I would expect a totally in-house movement at that price point or between 8-10k with the current movement.
Wonder if Adrian knew the price at filming? They are pushing it price wise and in 2023 at the luxury end it’s inexcusable not to have micro adjustment. Especially for a watch you are always going to keep on the bracelet. The watch looks great and good to see them do such a good job on it.
I can't imagine he knew of the 12K price tag when filming this. That price is pretty bonkers, especially considering that it has the SAME movement as his 5K Mark XX...

That and not listening to their audience, the formula is simple.....Display back, micro adjustment on bracelet, Genta design, descent water rating (could be 150) and a competitive price point 7 or 8000 chf.
I agree on price. But. New IWC bracelets have in built micro adjustment in the clasp don’t they ? although not mentioned this time so maybe not. And also has soft iron core case ?
The MarkXX is fairly priced. 5 day power reserve. Not interested. Too expensive. I like to see the movement. He is way over the top about this watch. Who cares about the antimagnetic case, when everyone else has moved to silicon mainsprings. It is a typical 3 handed. $5500 on Chrono24. Not $12000.

I bought a MKXX this evening in London. Blue, and with the additional brown strap. My friend bought the Lewis Hamilton Ingenieur when he was partnered with Rosberg, that is a lovely watch.
Brilliant.. totally agree. They stayed faithful to the original to preserve its Genta heritage and identity (even the brushed satin finish) but with updated chamfered edges and other tweaks and enhancements to bring it gracefully into the 21st century. Love the dial pattern. Dont know which one to choose. Stellar job.
The price is ridiculous! The Mark XX has an amazing bracelet, is stainless steel too and it has the same movement… What exactly justifies the almost 6k premium?! It looks great and I would love to own one but it should cost 8k, absolute maximum. Hope they will be around that price on the grey market!

I think it's a great step to revive the Genta design again. I was crying to see the 'new' (now 'old') one after the famous 3239 iteration - which is still the best looking Ingenieur today imho. This brand new 38901 is very true to the original Genta design and I kind like it. BUT I think there are multiple problems: They have heavily increased the price, the way cheaper Pilot's watch Mark XX has the same movement and even the great adjustable clasp. And their just mentioned Pilot's watch is nowaday more iconic to me as they kept this simple design for years with just slight improvements. So for me this is the way better deal if you want an IWC with a great Inhouse movement with a much better clasp design.
Great video (as always). I just put my deposit down for the Silver Vsn. It seems they now have the option to choose the micro-adjustment or stay with the one shown at W&W. Do you guys think I should go with the micro-adjustment? Will it make the watch look or feel any different?
I kinda like the one of W&Ws that Adrian shows 😍 so, refined and well done 👍 people complain about this type but over the nautilus they never complain about the pricr 🫣 although the price is much more and the movement is not a high end horlogerie manufacture anymore 🤷🏼♂️ (5711)
I will be finishing my Master's degree around the end of this year and was looking for a watch as a gift for myself. I guess this is gonna be the one I'm heading for.
Very rare to see a new edition better than the original one. Although I love the purity of the first Genta ingénieur, I really like the new model, thinner and more comfortable on the wrist. The closed case back is not an issue for me as I never look at the movement when there is an open case back. I also think that price is high but justified in my view, as IWC is a serious watch brand I have always admired (not to be compared with Chopard 😅). Also think the Ingénieur is more of a tool watch than the RO or the Nautilus, refined but more discreet and under the radar. The green/blue dial is beautiful but purchased the black dial version which is more suitable for me. Thanks Adrien, better late than never!
Really great, but personally can’t justify the price. I’m sure it will be a hit and applaud IWC for celebrating this design again, but for me, just looking for a bit more at that price point.
Love to see a Bark and Jack watch review back up. I’ve been loving About Effing Time, but definitely prefer Bark and Jack/Adrian Barker watch reviews. This IWC is amazing too!

Genta also designed two more integrated bracelet sport watches for IWC, both extremely unique: Golf Club and Yacht Club II. They were discontinued in the late 70s and 80s. Probably not too many people still reading the comments now that already posted about the butterfly clasp - but the CEO of IWC announced March 30th that the micro adjust clasp will be available as an accessory for the Ingenieur later this year.
It's sort of weird that many reviews don't even mention the 2013 version, the 3239 automatic, 40mm x 10mm thickness model, that is very similar to this one. The new one is a refinement of that design, while everyone seems obsessed with the Genta story, I wonder if they even know anything about the evolution of more recent versions?
Excellent review Adrian. An iconic watch strikes back, but unfortunately after all these years of waiting not at the expected perfect level ( without a quick change system, micro adjustment and open caseback)...and furthermore considering the known movement (like in the spitfire for half the price) for sure overpriced...a missed chance IWC

This has similar specs to the much cheaper Baume et Mercier Riviera with the Baumatic BM12-1975A movement. 120hours 28,800 and 21 jewels. Is it the same movement ?
Just love it. My favorite is the titanium one. As an engineer, I already have the Railmaster. This will be my next. Unfortunately Rolex discontinued the Milgauss before I could get one

IWC is in my eyes much more valuable brand then Rolex. This watch should not be compared to main stream Submariner or Aquaterra, but rather to Laureato or Polo S and the price is in that territory. This is one of the few watches designed by Gérald Genta and so it’s imo fairly priced.
What an amazing watch! It’s the perfect adaptation of the original to the modern time. There’s not a single compromise and the attention to detail is incredible.
@@udosmesovsky4249 yeah the price point might be a little high considering you’re getting the same movement as the mark xx. On the other side the built quality is way higher and refined. The Ingenieur can compete with the royal oak and Nautilus without a problem and there are way more than enough people willing to pay the price. About the mini adjustments, I do understand why they didn’t integrate it. Although I really like to use it on my which. Luckily it looks like the links are fairly easy to change yourself.
@@TheMongoFilms It can't remotely compete with the Royal Oak or the Nautilus. IWC doesn't even come close to reaching the brand cachet of Patek or AP. Let's face it... we're talking about a 3 hander. Brand cachet is everything.
This is going to be big hit despite its shortcomings (a non-adjustable bracelet - is unforgivable for any watch above 4k in my opinion).. but like others have mentioned, I have a feeling they have overpriced this thing.. it's now in the entry level range of VC (like the fifty-six collection).
Way overpriced. This should be a message to ALL watch brands if its over 10,000 USD people are going to buy a Rolex. I myself am a watch nerd and would absolutely love this watch but even i have a hard time trying to justify 12,000 price tag. Rolex is to tempting at the 12,000 range for 2,000 more you can have two tone gold fluted Date just that dances when the light touches it. But the history of this watch still pulls me.
This was mentioned to me in 2020. When I asked if the 323909 Blue laureus limited edition was available. Fantastic but they should have brought it out earlier.
For the price, this watch should have better movement (even just better decoration), anti-magnetic (silicon hairspring, etc.) and see-through crystal caseback.
I don't understand why this uses a faraday cage when the Baume & Mercier Riviera Baumatic M0A10616 (3900 euros !) uses the same ValFleurier movement as this but with a glass caseback and 1500 gauss anti-mag protection.
Wow, I just finished watching the about effing time episode yesterday, where you guys talked about how much you would like to see IWC bring back this watch. You guys can see into the future haha
Didn't know the original but this style feels covered in market, from Royal Oak at the luxury to the PRX at entry level. Its nice but at $20K (NZD) I feel there are better options.
Ah this could be the first modern IWC I would be willing to buy. The obvious one to go for is the black, I know 100% that aqua is a fashion trend that will most probably look ridiculous in a few years and yet, it really is very very tempting. Good video.

I do not agree! No micro adjustment clasp and the price tag isn't fair!
@@max.loves.watches and that is why it’s half price
@@TheMongoFilms lol
This is going to be big hit despite its shortcomings (a non-adjustable bracelet - is unforgivable for any watch above 4k in my opinion).. but like others have mentioned, I have a feeling they have overpriced this thing.. it's now in the entry level range of VC (like the fifty-six collection).
Doubt it. An ETA 2836 movement, modified by VF. Not for 13k +
Micro adjustment bracelet was just announced by IWC

Way overpriced. This should be a message to ALL watch brands if its over 10,000 USD people are going to buy a Rolex. I myself am a watch nerd and would absolutely love this watch but even i have a hard time trying to justify 12,000 price tag. Rolex is to tempting at the 12,000 range for 2,000 more you can have two tone gold fluted Date just that dances when the light touches it. But the history of this watch still pulls me.
@@jonathanbonilla7683 Just save 900 CHF more and you can buy a H. Moser pioneer.
Is there any rationale justification for the price?
I have a blue Mark XX and would love to add this in black or white someday!
It is stunning, I just wish they had included a micro adjustment in the bracelet.
Not too late - great to see that IWC have gone back to the original design in a sensible size.
This was mentioned to me in 2020. When I asked if the 323909 Blue laureus limited edition was available. Fantastic but they should have brought it out earlier.
Finally iwc. Of course they couldn’t put the iwc at 12 but they got the dial right so I’m not complaining
For the price, this watch should have better movement (even just better decoration), anti-magnetic (silicon hairspring, etc.) and see-through crystal caseback.
Had to put down a deposit on the Aqua once I put it on wrist! Now gotta wait to arrive :(
Did I miss the Price?
Thx for showing us!
I reckon this might just be THE release from Watches&Wonders 2023.
I don't understand why this uses a faraday cage when the Baume & Mercier Riviera Baumatic M0A10616 (3900 euros !) uses the same ValFleurier movement as this but with a glass caseback and 1500 gauss anti-mag protection.
I know there is a lot of reservation about the price, but I think the watch looks fantastic. I want to try one on soon at my AD if they have any.
Adrian it’s 05:30 am. 🤦🏻♂️
Still watching it though 😅🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for this review. I knew IWC was a good watch maker but a Gerald Genta watch, wow. I will consider this one since it has a rough sexy style.
Spoke to the ADs in Auckland mate, these are gonna be boutique only sadly so we probably won't be seeing em for a while
Ah this could be the first modern IWC I would be willing to buy. The obvious one to go for is the black, I know 100% that aqua is a fashion trend that will most probably look ridiculous in a few years and yet, it really is very very tempting. Good video.
I’ve been excited for the redesign for ages upon ages.
I’m looking forward to seeing it in person.
Especially the wonderfull ETA Movement.
@@j.m.4444 lol. Dang, you're right. That is a bummer and a 5 day power reserve doesn't make up for that imo. "IWC manufactured 32111" threw me off.... 32xxx were all based eta apparently.
Don’t mind the crown guards. Don’t mind the cost. I do mind a lack of micro-adjustment
Brilliant! I love it! The case and bracelet are nicely improved but prefer the dial, indices, hands and logo/text of the original. Won't stop me from grabbing one though....but now the which colour? hmm....
I put down my deposit and reserved the titanium version with my AD. Hopefully it will arrive soon - but they told me the Titanium version launch in Nov this year.
