I’ve been wondering the same thing😩
My theory: He said this is a character-driven single and each song is playing a different "part" in a story. So this character is essentially saying that this person is cheating or in an abusive relationship and caught up in the past. "Tell myself that I can defeat this" brings off the energy of a one-sided relationship where someone is giving and giving and the other person is just taking and not thanking them. He's upset and stubborn, but negligent of what he's doing. "Call you up to call you out" shows that he fights fire with fire. "Ask me if I've come around" maybe there was a decision or fight resulting in moving out so this song might be the "parting gift" per se before he leaves this relationship. "Stab my back, say you're a martyr" alludes to the opposing person is claiming they're the victim, pinning him down and blaming him for stuff they've actually done. After each accusing line or detail given, he says whatcha think, looking for approval that he knows he won't get (in a sarcastic tone)...so he's beating himself up "kills me everyday" time and time again being put down by this person, creating self-esteem issues, but they don't know if they want to stay for the hell of it or leave.

Good and valid points. Upon re-examination of the lyrics you mentioned, I agree that it's more about an abusive relationship than a relationship with an unfaithful partner (though, that's an abusive relationship in and of itself if not consensual).
