Golf rules have resulted in ridiculous penalties (i.e. Dustin Johnson PGA). Bubba is smart...and like him or not, you've got to respect his awareness of the situation. And the PGA Rules official agreed. Bubba was correct in ensuring the rules were enforced.
I think it was perfectly OK for Bubba to get the relief. Honestly, I think in his mind he's thinking his problem is not the bush, but the hole. If there was no hole in his swing path, I'm sure he would have taken a swing at it, AND make it out onto the fairway.
Right. There's also Phil. But (in my humble opinion) Phil wouldn't have pushed so hard for the rule as Bubba has done here. I think Phil would have called it unplayable and taken a drop. I do think Bubba is a great crap lie player but I also think he's pushing it a bit too far here. If it was my golfing buddy asking me if he can take a free drop from that lie because there's something in his swing path, I would have told him, "Not possible. If you want clear path, next time don't hit it into a bush. Either hit the ball or take a drop with one stroke penalty."
It looked to me when he made the drop, and I noticed during the live event, that he gave the drop a little extra help. Watch his hand. He didn't just let go.
The pro intimidates the rules officials. You can hear it in his voice and language as he seeks clarity from Bubba. If you were playing with your kid teaching him the game you would say you hit in the S**T, take a drop, hit back in the fairway, and play on.
does not make a practice swing and just pitches out to get out of there ASAP..seems like he feels guilty to get so much advantage out of a nothing situation
+baljit sandhu I agree it could seem like that. But to me, it seemed like he took a very quick swing because he was very certain of what he was going to do.

Melvin, your comment is backwards. Bubba is a lefty and he did get relief. I righty would not get relief because it would not be possible for him to play the shot from the bush regardless of whether there was a hole there.
@@QkFrosty "line of play" is irrelevant in this situation. Only "lie of ball", "stance", and "area of swing" are considered when taking relief from an obstruction like this. "Line of Play" means where the ball is likely to travel after being struck.
The hole could catch the clubhead as he hits down on the ball. There are lies where you'd want to bury the clubhead into the ground after you've made the contact, and this might have been one of those lies. And if there was a hole right in front of the ball, I wouldn't feel comfortable hitting that shot because the hole is going to affect my follow through. I don't know... something like that.

Tiger did the same thing at the same tournament about 10 years ago remember the loose impediment that took 13 people to move
The bush was impeding his swing not the hole therefor he should not have had a free drop, just saying
I mean I’m not a golf expert so correct me if I’m wrong but how is it fair that a righty would have got relief but not a lefty. In that situation
Because the rules experts have to take into account the golfers "line of play"

The ball wasn't touching or in the hole so how could he say it was an obstruction?
