Cossacks were basicaly the Ukrainian knights of their times. There are a lot of historical documents where different European kings and embassadors discuss Cossacks and their actions from such perspective. Unfortunately they were first deceived (as usual) and then destroyed by ruzzians. But as the folk Ukrainian song says "Cossack`s glory will not die nor will it vanish". Glory to Ukraine! Thanks for your reaction!

There is a story approving that, among other things, Cossacks had a very powerful weapon, which is laughter. A Turkish sultan sent them a letter, in which he applied very posh titles to himself (like "brother of the Moon", "child of the Sun", etc.) and suggested them to yield. However, the Cossacks sent him a reply, in which they mocked ALL his statements and declared that they would never surrender. The ending was like this: "Now we finish here, because we don't know the day and don't have a calendar; the month (moon) is in the sky, the year is in the book, and the day is the same with yours, kiss us on the /beep/!" (There's a painting describing the process of writing this letter.) And it continues. No matter how hard you-know-who tries to scare us, we will laugh in their faces

The history of Ukraine has more than 1000 years.
Our ancestors stopped the hordes of the Mongols, while Moscow surrendered and was under the yoke for 300 years. The word Cossack is of Turkic origin, meaning a free armed man. So the Mongols and Tatars called our ancestors. The Zaporizhzhya Army is the first democratic state at that time that was created by the Cossacks on the territory of Ukraine after its capture and division between Moscow and Poland. The Cossacks first wrote their constitution in 1710 (Pylyp Orlyk). The Hetman (the chief leader of the country) was recognized by all the monarchs of Europe, although the Hetman was an elective position that did not have a monarchical origin. Moscow, trying to justify its greatness and antiquity, constantly appropriates the history of Ukraine.
They stole the word Rus, Cossack, Kievan Rus.
Here you need to know the history to understand the context. Moscow was founded by Yuri Dolgoruky, son of the Kievan Prince Vladimir Monomakh, in the eastern swamps that were a colony of Kievan Rus. Russians get mad when you tell them these facts. Russians are fake, as is the story of their origin in their interpretation. Russian savages are children of Finno-Ugric peoples with an admixture of Tatars and Mongols.

Cossacks are Ukrainian warriors who defended the independence and will of the Ukrainian people from the end of the 16th century to the 17th century. In those days, the Cossacks fought with russia, Poland, and Turkey. They protected the Ukrainian people from slavery. In 1775, Catherine the Second, empress of the russian empire, destroyed the main Cossack fortress - Sich. All property was taken to st. petersburg (russia), the Cossack leadership was sent to hard labor, and the soldiers were killed and tortured, some survived and fled.
Now there is a war again in Ukraine because russia has decided that it can also wage an occupation war in the 21st century. russia is bombing Ukrainian cities, killing people, destroying cities, and destroying infrastructure. Our lights are constantly turned off, some cities are without water and heating in the cold.
The song draws an analogy between the Cossacks who fought for freedom and the soldiers who now protect Ukraine with weapons in their hands.
Thank you and your country for supporting the Ukrainian people. Your support is very important to us! If Ukraine does not stand up, the Russians will kill us all. the Russians don't need us, they need a victory over our country - and then they will move on to Europe with the war.

.я читала...

Actually Cossacs (Kozaks) can be considered as warrior class from quite wide period XV-XIX centuries. Very democratic class with all the signs of State organisation. Before the defeating (after the tragic "peace and friendship" deal with Moskowians - yes, they've never been Russians as native Ukrainians after the Kyiv Rus lands, they just stolen this name in XVIII the cent) Cossatchina were the lands with native people who started to call themselves in several ways - Russian people, Cossacks, and even Sarmathians (it was rather about the establishment). Lands were splitted and called after the so called Colonels or Regiments with own government under the main government on Sich - special war base or bases with some warfare industries.
In the period of war Cossacks were electing Hetman - the warlord with exclusive tyran privileges which orders were a law. Nevertheless, after dramatic failures cossacks could execute him to death after the special meeting and elect a new one from officers or even regular warriors, and his word was the law again.
The look and habits of cossacks looks like are much older than the first written mentions of this name. One of the first written descriptions was given in Bysantia to Kyiv Prince Swiatoslaw and his Brotherhood was exactly of Cossacks.
During the Cossacks period appeared the name - Ukraine (in documents - Ukraine-Rus, or very rare - Sarmathia), and Ukrainian people used to name themselves both Ukrainians and Cossacks, but Cossacks was more about the brave and strong people everywhere, alongside with just a national name. Even in 1950s, after several genocides and during the Soviet-Russian occupation whole willages called themselves "cossacks" before the "ukrainians"

UA-cam suggested this reaction video to me. If you do not mind will copy my comment from another reaction video 😀. There is nice explanation of phrase " козацькому роду нема переводу" .It's even better than I could explain . This is a phrase about a Cossacks. Cossacks were once Ukrainian warriors. We say this when we want to say that although there are no Cossacks, but the traditions remained and the spirit of the Cossacks. Otoman(with one letter "t") - title of the position of leader of Cossaks. There is nice article in English Wikipedia about Kish Otaman. Sometimes Kish otamans were called - hetman. In general there's nice article about Ukrainian cossaks in Britannica. I do believe there used fragments from the movies based on such novels, as: "With fire and sword" of "Henryk Sienkiewicz" and "Taras Bulba" by Mykola Hohol. The Movies have the same name as novels

I can't believe I've just subscribed to a reaction channel because it's really not my thing, but you stole my heart when you made the parallel with Wu-Tang, there was so much respect in that. Making these links across cultures of resistance is the antidote to divide-and-rule, wherever we are in time and space. On a personal level, it feels good to see someone else fall in love with Ukrainian music...I'm obsessed, barely listening to anything else at the moment (I'm also learning the language though).
Btw I wonder whether that line about not going near water if you don't know the depth comes from an old proverb... I've heard somewhere (a Timothy Snyder lecture, maybe) that the Cossacks were the first to learn how to navigate the rapids of the Dnipro river without drowing.
Anyway, thanks Dad 🙂and слава Україні!💙💛

Early "Proto-Cossack" groups are generally reported to have come into existence within what is now Ukraine in the 13th century as the influence of Cumans grew weaker, although some have ascribed their origins to as early as the mid-8th century.that’s kind samurai’s in Japan 🇯🇵 or Tampliers in Europe, and Ukraine have that’s Cossack state ) we have this in our blood

Cossacks (козаки) are a Ukrainian people. The Hetmanship, the state of the Cossacks 17-18 с., is Ukraine. The names have changed, but the people are the same. Козацького роду mean Cossack origin.
Not to be confused with Kazakhs (people of Kazakhstan). And not to be confused with Казаки (Don Cossacks, Amur Cossacks, etc.) - to hire in the Russian Empire.

You could see them in this song: ua-cam.com/video/KtKaXc_AEF8/v-deo.html and it was created 6 years ago.
It is also a film about Ukrainian culture, although not very successful, but with a high budget. It is called "Taras Bulba". Cossacks are Ukrainians who rebelled against the Poles and Russians, who wanted to make them slaves. This image is very characteristic of Ukrainians.

Cossacks were free Ukrainian people, who didn't want to obey smb. They lived in the Ukrainian fields, fought for freedom. These people are our ancestors. She compared our ancestors, who were the good warriors and the modern generation ,young people who are the courageous soldiers in this war Ukraine-Russia .So she sings like nothing was changed ,our ancestors fought for freedom and now we have to continue doing this

The free people of Ukraine 🇺🇦 fought again and again not to be made into serfs, first by the Poles, then by the Muscovites. They were free farmers, denigrated as peasants, run away to the free dangerous borderlands of the Tatar Khanate in Crimea, Ukraine 🇺🇦. They were joined with Turkic Cumans in the south, and any freebooter who didn’t want to be enslaved. That’s the Cossack hairstyle, warriors of Ukraine 🇺🇦. There is a Polish movie, Fire 🔥 & Sword ⚔️, where the footage comes from. That’s their chosen Cossack leader Khemenitsky. The modern General is the legendary strategist Zaluzhnyi.

“Return to your swamp” means “return to Moscow”, because Moscow was built on swamps and the country was called Moscowia, the name RUSSIA was much later and was stolen from Ukrainian country Kyiv Rus’!
