Hi Mike. You have no clue what your words mean to me. That is exactly how I wish to be understood as well as how I try to come off. Thank you so much for your time not only watching but leaving me your words. Much appreciated.
I found that the leak from my 303s wheels was happening around the tubeless valve. I added a teeeny bit of kitchen silicone to the thread of the tubeless valve at the point it pokes into and out of the wheel, and that improved the seal when you threaded the nut onto the valve. It reduced the leaking to near zero
Feeling is everything. Thanks for the comments and impression. You got me worried with the air loss on the Zipps wheels and the crosswinds concerns. I think people have to much emphasis on weight. 80% of the drag is your body so paying more is only for those with unlimited purse.
LOL yes, I often find it funny with some guys unloading thousands of dollars to shave off grams when they can easily lose 4 lbs just off the body alone. For us at enthusiast level, it also doesn't make sense to entertain wheels north of certain dollar range in my opinion. These are really sweet at price point they both come in.
Just found your channel man! Loved this video and your style! I’m not a diabetic, but I don’t have stomach (b/c of cancer) so the blood sugar issues are real! Much love and looking forward to more content!
I had the same issue with air leaks on my Zipps but it turned out that a bike shop had sold me the Tube type Schwalbe Pro Ones, which come in the exact same box and only have a very small "tube type" tag on them. I know its not likely to be your problem but its worth checking because I ran mine for about 5 months (and about 30 races) without realising.
Thanks you Craig. I do work my ass off behind the scenes :) My normal work days span 20-21 hours a day working which does render not enough time to enjoy fruits of my labor. I am keen on hopping on my bike as much as possible every minute I get whereas my wrist injury pretty much disabled me from making noise with my guitars lololol....
I just upgraded the wheel set on my 3yr old Pinarello Paris to the Zipp 303s with Enve SES tyres. I improved my PR hundo time by 27mins first time out. I almost felt guilty… like I was cheating or something. Went out the next day and rode another hundred miles. The Zipps are worth every penny.
I have the same Zipp wheels on my Orbea. The bike came with Fulcrum wheels which really skipped sideways bin crosswinds. The Zipp feel much more benign in that respect. I’m a light rider, like you, so we feel it more than heavier riders of course. As for pressure loss, mine hold pressure fo a couple of days, I’m using Goodyear Eagle F1 28mm, which could account for some difference. I seriously considered the Hunt wheels, reports of the freehub noise, being the thing that put me off. As you say, both great wheel sets at their price point. Safe travels.
Graham, thank you so much for your time watching!! I've learned to live with the pressure loss as it is more of an annoyance than show stopper at this point. So long as it doesn't go flat on my at 90th mile into my 120 mile ride, I won't bitch :)
For anyone considering the zipp 303s , before you buy them have a good look at the parcours ronde wheelset. I swapped my 303s for these and they are superior in every way. Faster, smoother, better engagement and more comfortable. And they handle crosswinds far better.
I've heard good things about the Parcours. Francis Cade just did a video with the guy who owns it just yesterday if not mistaken. Not sure what the availability is like for those wheels here in the US though. Good shout out!
I've taken delivery last month of Hunt Carbon 30 Allroad wheels fitted with 35c knobblies on my hybrid for light offroad duties, the free-wheeling noise is a hell of a lot less than the SL1s on my Giant Defy! They have different hubs to the Aero 35s that I'm thinking of also buying but am having 2nd thoughts if Hunt's straight-pull free-hub body wakes the dead! I shall contact Hunt about this.
I have hd the air leak issue with my tubeless wheels. Mine was due to the tubeless valve not being tight enough after adding the sealant. Spray soap water on your valves after you pump the air in them. Good luck
Great video, one suggestion I would make is to try both wheel sets on both bikes to see if they act the same. I received my Hunt 44 Aerodynamicist set two days before seeing this vid. I'm glad I didn't see it two months ago and place an order right away, because since this review came out, Hunt dropped pricing across their entire range, and my 44 set was down to $1149. Unfortunately it's winter now in WI so these won't see any tarmac for at least 4 months, I just have to sit and drool over them until spring comes.
Hi DC. Totally agree with the 303s being dangerous in cross winds. I have run these wheels in North Texas for. 2 years, tons of miles, but we have huge winds here. I’m done with riding in winds over 14 mph on these wheels. Looking at the zipp 303 firecrest. Do you think it would be more stable in the winds? What other wheels in the $2000 price range would you recommend?
Thank you so much for spending the time watching and dropping a comment. While I can't comment on 303 Firecrests, I do ride on 404 Firecrests which are DEEPER. 404 Firecrests are solid in cross wind situation despite 58mm depth. Not to say the wind won't impact as physics can't be defied, but the "correction" happens quick and there's definitely better management of wind it seems. So 303 FC I suspect would perform well as they are not as deep. I have a newer episode (Ep37) where I go over 5-6 sets of wheels coincidentally in the price range you speak of. Might be something there you might find interesting. Thank you again!
I love hookless rims. I have a set of Enve Foundation 45's, and the lower tired pressures I can run on them make a big difference for an 85kg rider like myself. It's amazing how smooth most roads are when riding at 70psi on 28mm tires, also fast. Plus they have a lifetime crash replacement warranty. I'm sure the Zipps and Hunt's are great too, just my 2 cents on hookless.
Thanks for the review. Have similar observation on 303s especially when it applies to cross winds which made me upgrade to firecrest. But I’m surprised you loose air so quickly. Also use the one pro from Schwalbe, when put on new without sealant it stayed firm 3-4 days. When riding never lost more than 1 atm between rides. Now when we have winter in Poland I again have new firecrests without sealant and it status firm for weeks
Hi Kuba. The air thing turned out to be the choice in tires. I have been using Schwalbe Pros for last 6-7 years without an issue as tubeless (25mm). But all the 28mm tires I've put on this set as well as my other sets, air leaks on all of them. Same wheels, leave the tapes as is, swap tires, leaks no more LOL. Thanks for your time!
1200-1300 gram wheels are rated up to 170 lbs, I am at 205 lbs in system weight, I just cannot buy anything below 1550 grams since they are usually rated up to 242 lbs. So ultralight wheels don’t go with a bigger rider.
I have the same 303S and had the problem concerning air loss when using the Pro One or a Vittoria Corsa. But it went away with Pirelli Race TLR (non-SL). And I do agree with you about the twitchy nature of those wheels, quite a contrast coming from my previous Enve 4.5.
I actually have some new Pirellis exact same ones you mention on standby to be put on as soon as the current tires wear out or have issues. Would be interesting to see the tires having better air retention. Thanks Leonardo!!!!
Great video. Thank you! I actually own the Zipp 303s wheelset and love them but haven't tried the Hunt wheels yet. It was a tough call for me but I'm happy. I've noticed a little loss of pressure in the Zipps but I would say no more than other tubeless wheels I have. Maybe yours may need to be reseated with a high pressure compressor type pump?
Def have reseated, retaped, everything else under the sun. This set just loses a bit quicker than all my other wheels over last several years. It's ok, I've learned to live with them. It's more of an annoyance than a show stopper. Glad to hear you are also enjoying your 303s!
@@DiabeticCycling I find that the pressure on my Zipp 303s holds a lot better after changing my sealant from Schwalbe Doc Blue to Muc-off sealant. The muc-off sealant also seals any punctures A LOT better than the Schwalbe Doc Blue.
Got my gf setup on the 303S with Zipp tires and they seal really well. Bike will sit for a full week and have very minimal drop in pressure - no worse than a normal tube.
i just bought the 4454 for my road bike :) gonna put my 303s on the gravel bike, i had the same problem as you with them.. loosing air way to fast and crosswinds got crazy sometimes. Yesterday I almost hit the deck like twice because of winds. I think the 303s will perform fantastic on the gravel bike but for road the hookless design/super low pressures don't feel right. Oh and the Hunt look/and sound amazing :D
4454, a fantastic set and bang for your money is superb. since this video, what I've found out is that the hookless nor Zipp 303s being the culprit of air not getting held. Something with the 28mm from Schwalbe, the tires aren't holding as tight as should. Putting on different tires on Zipp 303s, air is held fine. Putting Schwalbe Pro One 28mm on other wheels, they lose air. I've tried new, old, different wheels, etc and can confirm. It's a damn shame cause Schwalbe 25mm I've been using for several years are rock solid. For now, I'm running different tires on my Zipp 303s. Like mentioned, 303s roll SO GREAT but god forbid someone whistles my way, the wheels start dancing all over... Probably a good choice to put them on your gravel like you said. Happy riding Cedric and be safe out there.
The tire leaking out air is said to be due to the tubeless tape. The tape is pretty flimsy. A lot of people tape over the preinstalled tape and it solved the leaking air
Hi Shawn. Thank you so much for your time and such kind words!!! As to the question, I haven't had a need for parts/service yet on my wheels. However, the wheelset comes with lots of extras like spokes etc right out of the gate. And I did have some back & forth with them for other matters, and I found their customer service to be top notch. (I have no relationship with them at all, so this is a true assessment based on my experience) Hope that helps~
I had the same problem at first, I changed the tyres after one was damaged by a bad pothole. I run Pirelli P zeros and they hold pressure better than any clincher wheels. Very happy with the 303s.
Hi Troi. The wheelset is awesome indeed set aside from the crosswind performance I had mentioned. As to the slow air leak, it turns out the issue was the particular brand of tires I used.
I've put on my P Zeros and the issue is gone from what I mentioned in this video. My trust Schwalbes I've been using for so many years, not so good fit as 28mm on this set or other sets I've noticed.
@@rcar04 Hey bud. I'm just using the PZ Race TLR. There is some tiny weight savings to be had going with SL but I'd rather have a bit more puncture protection with the standard TLR variant of this tire. Good stuff.
For hookless wheels, tires popping off is "somewhat" of a safety problem. Understatement of the year. Regarding tire pressure limted to 73 psi, I believe this to be very conservative; the number is simply carried from ETRTO.
Tires popping off have nothing to do with the hookless design. It has to do more with the internal diameter of the tire and the tolerances on the tire construction. MotoGP bikes run hookless tires, at speeds up to 300kph, and at forces that are orders of magnitude higher than those on a bicycle. When was the last time you saw a MotoGP tire pop off?
@danielakerman8241 the rims are much deeper, I'm the biggest tubeless fan boy I the world from riding mtbs. Tubeless on road bikes is awful unless they have hooks and the tyres and wheels both by the same company..... which are normally heavy e.g giant. I've had multiple tyres blow off the rim at 70psi
Also if your running tyres at 25 psi, even if the impact ramps up the pressure 4 times it's no where near enough pressure to push off a tyre that thick and strong
@@87togabito honestly i would go for the lighter set i rode on a set of hunt 44 that my buddy has and truthfully my time was about the same on a 30 mile ride
@@zambokid89 well not sure i never had the zipp 303s i do know the zipp firecrest is amazing as a buddy has them but cant really compare since i never rode the zipps 303s
If you lost 10 lbs then that’s your meilenstein wheelset right there. Also, if you aren’t racing, then the 1000 is fine. Anything more expensive then you’re just getting .2 watts faster.
hmmm i've havent had much issue with air loss on the 303s. I use orange sealant with goodyear eagle f1 tires. I've ridden 60 miles and then checked the next day and they would only lose less than 5psi
Though I've been an avid lover of Schwalbe Pro Tubeless tires for last several years, the issue appears to be the choice in tires that create the "air leaking" faster. Same rims with different tires currently show different results currently.
THANK YOU So much for your time and kind words! I wasn't really trying to convey one way or another though hopefully. Just took a look at your channel and though I'm don't have any military background, I am very much interested in firearms myself. Great to getting to know ya. Thanks again and take care! 소중한시간 감사드립니다으~~~ㅎ
nice, was literally looking at both/either sets as my next upgrade, was leaning towards the hunts, this vid helped me confirm my choice cheers very helpful
I was looking at DT Swiss but wanted a wider external rim width, so went to research about Zipp 303s and found your video. Now I'm considering getting the Hunt 4454 because of the combo of narrow and wide rim depth and the loud hub sound.
I've had 3 sets of DT Swiss both ARC and PRC series wheels. GREAT wheels. Hunt has a huge selection in terms of how they line up the wheels, so definitely take a look, perhaps you may find something better suited to you than 4454 I show here. I got 4454 actually cause that's the set they had in stock ready to ship LOL when they were basically out of stock on everything. Meanwhile as you saw in my video here, I absolutely love them. F'ing FAST and ability to take on 28mm tires to make the ride smooth while dusting the fools...
I have and currently use the hunt 50 carbon aero disc. Man they roll forever. And yes the rear hub is very loud lol. I’m wondering what differences are with the aerodynamicist series tho, other than the rim profile
I have a pair of Hunt aerodynamicist. I do like them, except for the noise. The noise gives you the sense of cheaper parts in play. But they perform well, especially for the price.
Its nothing to do with the parts being cheap or _'cheaper'_ . It has everything to do with the amount of teeth on the ratchet. Search for videos of an 18T DT swiss 350 hub vs the same hub with a 48T or 60T upgrade. The more teeth there is. The noisier the hub is.
I thought it had to do more with ratchet vs pawl hub systems. The hunts have, like, 7 deg engagement which probably implies a lot of teeth. I think with the pawl based system it’s the design of the pawls and springs that make all the racket. No expert here, I confess. I was saying it gives the perception of an inferior system not that it necessarily is. I have another wheel set with DT Swiss 240. They purr like a happy kitten.
@@Rose.Of.HizakiSo you're saying that Chris King and Industry Nine that are known to be super loud have a ton of teeth? So what about Onyx that makes a hub with the most teeth possible and is quiet - 0 noise w/ instant engagement. You can't hear it. They made it sound-less. Gotta love road bikers online that rally know what they're talking about. 😂😂😂 P.S. It's the engagement spring system that makes the 'clanking' against the teeth loud or quiet. (In laymen terms)
Thank you for this content, it is really informative. I just ordered a hunt wheel. By the way, can you change the hub in hunt without rebuilding the whole wheel ?
Always enjoy your reviews. I own an Orbea Orca, and I think your review of that bike was spot on. I am thinking about adding another bike to my stable and your review of the Soloist has me leaning in that direction. I have Hunt aerodynamicist wheels size 44 with carbon spokes on my Orbea. They came in at 1352 grams with carbon spokes. Love the wheels and was thinking I would get another set when I build the next bike. Now I’m thinking if I buy a set of 54 wheels I could run 44’s, 54’s or the 44 54 combo like you have. Does that seem reasonable? Also thought I would add that I have had similar problems with my tire deflating on my Hunt wheels. Only the rear tire. It went away when I changed tires but has since come back. Deflates completely in three days. Haven’t found the cause. Thanks again for your reviews.
My girlfriend had the Schwalbe tires set up tubeless and they were terrible at holding air. You could see the sealant as small damp patches all over the tire after a ride. Swapped to go 5000 and not had any problems at all.
Despite having great experience for like 6 years on the Schwalbe 25mm Tubeless tires, the 28mms are leaking air like crazy... I've switched over due to the prevalent leaking of air...
I just got my hunt hub serviced because it was so god damn loud. The inside was completely dry. It's been greased up generously and it's so much quieter now.
Can you tell me more about the aero gains specifically? Is the difference between shallow aluminum wheels night and day? And is there a big difference in ride quality? And so on? Im asking about the hunt wheels
Hi Endeavour! Some loaded questions there. Once you step up to certain level of wheels, brands wouldn't matter whether Hunt, Zipp, Roval, Mavic etc. Your bike's ability to hold speed at above 15mph would be VASTLY noticeable between 23mm shallow box rims vs even something like 45mm rims. At speeds below 10 mph, not much difference here although small weight penalty will come in if you are climbing. But due to lack of inertia, deep section aero wheels wouldn't fare that much more terrible against shallow box rims. As to ride quality, that would be debatable depending on who you ask. I've put on bazillion miles on both alloy wheels and carbon wheels. Tires would have more impact on "ride quality" where the wheels would impact your cross wind handling, aero or not, etc. That said, wider rims would allow you for wider tires therefore better "ride quality." Such awesome questions, and I could go ramble on for another 2 hours LOL... Hope it helps and have fun out there!
There are more differences than meets the eye. For example the spokes: Hunt has carbon and Zipp stainless steal. But the most noticeable difference will be in the ratchet ring in terms of engagement. They both equipt with a three pawl hub but Hunt has a 48 tooth ratchet ring and Zipp a 32-tooth ratchet setup. Does that translate in better accelaration or more traction uphill in favour of the Hunt 4454?
Probably less lag in pickup due to the immediacy of the engagement likely being better in the Hunt. Acceleration will depend on rotating mass (though we were told that the acceleration was better on the Hunts), and traction should be the same once engaged (everything else being the same).
Hi guy, thanks for your thoughts. I'm curious about if you have to choose between the two's, for a 60% tarmac and 40% light gravel usage, which one could be your choice or maybe another one, obviously in a similar field of choice. Thanks for replying, greets from Italy!
Hi Mr DC. Thanks for your video. I am looking to buy my first set of carbon wheels and definitely am considering Hunt - may not consider Zipp 303 because of apparent sensitivity to wind. But from a price perspective I am also considering Fulcrum Wind 55’s for the $1000 price and Roval CL 38’s for their price and “lifetime” warranty. Would you have an opinion on either of these? Thanks.
Hi Jack. I personally have not ridden the Wind 55s or C38 you mentioned, therefore this reply wouldn't come from actual experience. I see the 2 sets aren't far apart in weight and price. One obvious answer one would give you is to take the 55s if you mostly ride on flats and the 38 if you ride more mixed terrain. The Rovals do show slightly wider inner width which would be favored. Me personally, if I was forced to choose between the 2, and it is difficult, would be the Wind 55s. That said, anyone who owns C38 would tell you how they love those. You really couldn't go wrong with either set.
thinking same, i been fighting with zipp303/ Fulcrum wind 40 db / DT Swiss ERC 1400/ Hunt I been really interested HUNT lifetime warranty but how about evertyhing else
I assume you are asking about Hunt based on depth you mentioned. I have my set of Hunt on my Orbea Orca. Like mentioned in the video for that bike, I have never felt I am at a disadvantage with my 44/54 set climbing. I've ridden lighter wheels but when evaluating overall performance, I'd take mid depth wheels all day. The Hunt 44/54 fairs much better in cross wind than the Zipps I also ride. Overall, I highly recommend Hunt 44/44 or 44/54 depending on their inventory level. Thanks for your time watching!
@@DiabeticCycling Thank you for taking the time and answer so thoroughly. I'll go with the 44/54 then :) Already looking forward to ride them. Keep up the great content
@@plouism9087 interesting to read your comment. I also live in Switzerland (Basel) and considering the 44/54. Any comments on performance and impressions? Hi Sir May I know where did you purchase your hunts wheels. if you don’t mind me asking. If you can let me know what website Hoping for your kind reply. Thank you
The wider tire is only fast if you have it on width-matching wide rim. It never be any faster if one puts it at some 18 mm size (inner 15 mm). Its cross section will only look like a light bulb. And no - it won't be faster...
28mm. Some findings from when I posted this video - Schwalbe 25mms I had been rocking for several years are absolutely SUPERB. Their 28mms do not seat and hold well at all no matter what rims. I tried 4 different sets of the Schwalbe 28mms on 5 different rims all same result.
The answer will be very anti-climactic LOL... They didn't have much of any available wheelsets at the height of shortage, and that was one of the very very few they had available to ship to me. Specs lined up with what I needed thankfully, so that's how that unfolded.
@@DiabeticCycling isnt like 54 up front and 44 at back the best solution as the front wheel is catching more wind and the back wheel with the rider body and components having a more light weight and less material a best aero benefit
@@bernardo9202 This is absolutely a correct statement in terms of aero I believe. The front wheel being aero has more impact than the rear. As to why wheel manufacturers put out slightly shallower depth up front, this I do not know for sure. I would have to guess they do this for stability in cross wind condition. Having deep and/or deeper front wheel profile would subject you to more cross wind volatility. I guess they find happy medium by giving you slightly less aero wheel up front despite the aerodynamics would suggest bigger gain would be had by having more aero wheel up front. Although for TT and Tri, they do put more aero disc wheel in rear, too... I may be talking about of my ass so take with grain of salt XD
@@DiabeticCycling yeah becouse of crosswind. if you want put clothes on, eat etc. it is really hard if you have aero wheels and winds + dangerous if you riding in group and you cannot handle your bike steady. TT is like every second counts and thats why more aero, more better. I think.
Hi Doc! The issue turned out to be the choice in tires.
You can’t use tubes on hookless rims, because there hooks and the tire pressure will be to high. Before you buy hookless also check what tires you can run. Not all tires can be used on hookless rims.
303s comes in at about hair over 1500gr where the 4454 comes in at just hair below 1500gr. Differences are negligible less than 30 grams apart in grand scheme of things.
“We are starting to understand that aero gains to be had is more impt than just having a set of lighter wheels” My god, why is this so difficult to comprehend to those old generation of cyclist who can’t see beyond that single metric of weight? Weight, while impt, isn’t the be all end all for determining cycling efficiency and speed.
Anybody, esp the video maker: Please tell me what your experience w/ Hunt wheels is. You who actually own/ed them not those of you that heard stuff about them. Since I placed an order on 4454 Aerodynamicist this past week that is currently on the way to me I dug up really unpleasant criticism and even videos of structural flaws that are disastrous to say the least, such as this one: ua-cam.com/video/NSf28u9lVX0/v-deo.htmlsi=LPyCAF3GTZj__OEQ So I was determined that I won't even bother unboxing them but simply return them immediately for a full refund. But then just a few minutes ago I stumbled upon this video here and read ALL the comments and found only 1 that had a terrible experience w/ the Hunt wheels. I currently run Giant SLR 1 42mm but way looking for a mixed set and something slightly deeper than 42mm. I got the Hunt set for 20% off. The deal they currently have on their website, so for the set even if average it was pretty great given that they come w/ Lifetime crash warranty.
hi. DC here. I've owned 2 different sets of Hunt wheels so far and probably many more to have in the future. While I can't say your experience will be nothing but positive because we all ride differently, I personally never had any issues. They are rock solid, stupid bang for the buck, and most of all with great customer service. Your mileage will vary just as with anything. I am rolling on Zipp 404, Dura Ace, Enve SES on my other bikes currently but would be HAPPY to roll on Hunts just as much at half the cost if not more. My 2 cents.
I read mostly positive reviews before I made my purchase. I have not done a survey but my experience has only been positive. I have Aerodynamicist 44’s carbon spokes. I put mine on a new bike in July 2022. Over 12,000 miles without any issues. Love the way they ride.
I have 3 sets of Hunt UD wheels. 2 36 ud and 1 50 ud all 3 have the ceramic bearings from CeramicSpeed. Rim brake versions. I have absolutely no complaints. They have been rock solid and are very light for their depth. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again or to recommend them. The
Ordered a set of "Team Edition HUNT 44 Aerodynamicist Carbon Disc Wheelset". They came scratched and had different spokes then described on the website. Hunt said, oh, that was a failure on the website, there are no aero spokes on these aero wheels. Made complete sence to me. Send the wheels back, got another pair after weeks of waiting. Had to tell Hunt better put a plastic bag around the wheels so they wont get scratched again. Second pair had a big scratch on the hub even so they where well protected this time, so they has to have been scratched before transfer. I thouh, well its a minor thing, put the wheels in the bike without tyres to check them out, and oh my gosh they where out of true. Contacted Hund again, took them weeks to answer again, just to tell me, well use a sharpie for the blemish of the hub and go to a mechanic to let the wheels true. What a brand, what a service. Thank you so much. Ah and as if its not enough, when you want to send the wheels back you can not simply go to DHL or elsewhere with a retoursticker, oh no, you have to stay at home and wait for UPS to pick them up.
@@kmmntrls Pretty shocking. I got a set of hunts myself and they were in prefect condition. Bearings needed some new grease after a year of use but they have been great. I am aware that their build quality hasnt always been so great but they are often highly praised for excellent customer service. If i was you I wouldnt have bought another set of their wheels after the first experience, I would have bought a similar set from SCRIBE instead. Both companies source their wheels from the same factory in TW and they are probably built by the same people too.
I saw Mapdec mechanic guy delving into this structural issue, but then why so many owners have no issues w/ them? Maybe it was just a bad batch. Not that that's an excuse because such an issue can be fatal.

I just ordered my 4454's. Looking forward to them. Thanks for the review!
Hope you love yours as much as I do!
How's the performance of 44/54 wheelset? Pick up speed should be much faster and what about holding speed?
So long as it doesn't go flat on my at 90th mile into my 120 mile ride, I won't bitch :)
i have 303s and cyclinng thru santa ana winds sometimes and it performs quite well
For anyone considering the zipp 303s , before you buy them have a good look at the parcours ronde wheelset.
@@DiabeticCycling they do direct to consumer sales online like Hunt does.
Nice review. I’ve went with the hunt carbon aero 50s should be in this week so excited.
Aero 50s, sounds delicious!
@@DiabeticCycling Thanks again DC for your advice. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for helping me to decide on HUNT 52 CARBON AERODYNAMICIST WHEELSET 😀
I wasn't really trying to sway one way or another but glad to hear whatever I had to say helped you through your decision making process. Safe riding!
What a great review. I'm in!
Thank you Joseph! Your time watching my humble video, much appreciated!
Really good video. Especially that I’m on search for new set of wheels. You have new subscriber 👍
Thanks for your time watching, Simon! Appreciate the sub, too!
Yeah the issue turned out to be the 28mm variant of my beloved Schwalbe Pro Ones. Shame cause the 25mm ones have been rock solid last 7 years for me.
@@DiabeticCycling My setup is 303S with Schwalbe Pro One 30mm, and it's losing air about 20 psi in a week. Not too bad I guess
Lube the free hub on the Hunt wheels. It’s super easy with basic cycling tools and will be quiet after.
i just bought the 4454 for my road bike :) gonna put my 303s on the gravel bike, i had the same problem as you with them.. loosing air way to fast and crosswinds got crazy sometimes.
Very very good taste my friend, orca + hunt = very nice .
She's a looker and a BEAST :)
The tire leaking out air is said to be due to the tubeless tape. The tape is pretty flimsy. A lot of people tape over the preinstalled tape and it solved the leaking air
Any issues getting parts or service on Hunt wheels? Good video. Very down to earth.
I have Zipp303s on my cervelo aspero gravel bike. Never ever had air leaking yet on them . solid wheelset.
I've put on my P Zeros and the issue is gone from what I mentioned in this video. My trust Schwalbes I've been using for so many years, not so good fit as 28mm on this set or other sets I've noticed.
@@DiabeticCycling Which P Zeros are you using for the 303s? I see there's a PZero Race TLR, and then a Zero Race TLR SL. - thanks

My DT Swiss wheel-set is also loud when free wheeling so it isn’t just Hunt.
If you lost 10 lbs then that’s your meilenstein wheelset right there. Also, if you aren’t racing, then the 1000 is fine. Anything more expensive then you’re just getting .2 watts faster.
Taking the words right out of my mouth :) Thanks Anthony for your time watching and chiming in! Super appreciated!
hmmm i've havent had much issue with air loss on the 303s.
Orange Seal is the best sealant from my experience. I’ve tried Muc Off, Stans + others but Orange Seal was the one that always sealed.

I'm in a similar position... except was thinking about the new Dura-ace/ultegra 50s too. You review has helped me lean towards the Hunts too
I was looking at DT Swiss but wanted a wider external rim width, so went to research about Zipp 303s and found your video.
Wholly agreed Luke! Thanks for your time watching!
P.S. It's the engagement spring system that makes the 'clanking' against the teeth loud or quiet. (In laymen terms)
Thank you for this content, it is really informative. I just ordered a hunt wheel.
By the way, can you change the hub in hunt without rebuilding the whole wheel ?
Excellent dialog, thank you!

@@DiabeticCycling talking about wider tyre with better ride quality, does it take more power to roll 28" rather than 25" ?

The wider tire is only fast if you have it on width-matching wide rim. It never be any faster if one puts it at some 18 mm size (inner 15 mm). Its cross section will only look like a light bulb. And no - it won't be faster...

What was the actual schwalbe tire width on 303s’? I’m dying to know that.
28mm. Some findings from when I posted this video - Schwalbe 25mms I had been rocking for several years are absolutely SUPERB. Their 28mms do not seat and hold well at all no matter what rims. I tried 4 different sets of the Schwalbe 28mms on 5 different rims all same result.
you can clearly see the width at 2:38
Have to ask what made you go for the hunt 4454 instead of the 54 front and rear ?
The answer will be very anti-climactic LOL... They didn't have much of any available wheelsets at the height of shortage, and that was one of the very very few they had available to ship to me. Specs lined up with what I needed thankfully, so that's how that unfolded.
@@DiabeticCycling so now I have to ask if the 54’s were in stock would you have gone with those?
I think.
Do they hunt wheels last
Leaking air.... maybe you might see you have a crappy tire or enough sealant/ bad tube ? BC the 303s have been bombproof wheels in my experience.
I clarified that on my other videos. Wheels had nothing to do with not holding air.
Sounds like you need to redo your rim tape... no tubeless tire, hookless or not should lose that much pressure in that time.
Hi Doc! The issue turned out to be the choice in tires.

Of course.
@@DiabeticCycling ok thanks. I am not so into it and thougjt it is only tubeless
@@ck21985 As long as you are using tubeless ready tires its fine to run them either with tubes or set up tubeless with these wheels

@@ketle369 of course you can... But you have to look for the pressure
Weight of the two wheels?

Is zip 303s suitable for climbing ?
absolutely!
the hub of the Hunt is a re-branded Novatec which gives this sound due to the pawls
False. Hunt went in house some time ago. In any case Novatec are great.
Try winspace hyper..
Winspace only has a 2 year warranty, vs 3 years on Hunts, and a lifetime Warranty on Zipps should anything go wrong.
Hunts are rebranded winspace hypers
@@markwhitham1169 that’s not true. The likelihood is they’re Hunt spec’d Kinlin rims
@@saracen888 it’s definitely true, some of the carbon ones are rebranded winspace
@@markwhitham1169 Rebranding unlikely: Winspace is manufactured in China; Hunt's are manufactured in Taiwan.
whats with the guitars ? are you in a guitar center.?
I am very passionate about guitars despite not being very good at it LOL...

Anybody, esp the video maker:
Please tell me what your experience w/ Hunt wheels is. You who actually own/ed them not those of you that heard stuff about them. Since I placed an order on 4454 Aerodynamicist this past week that is currently on the way to me I dug up really unpleasant criticism and even videos of structural flaws that are disastrous to say the least, such as this one:
ua-cam.com/video/NSf28u9lVX0/v-deo.htmlsi=LPyCAF3GTZj__OEQ
So I was determined that I won't even bother unboxing them but simply return them immediately for a full refund.
My 2 cents.
@@DiabeticCycling Thank you. Last question: How long did you own them and how much did you ride with them on the bike?
Hello, I have Hunt 65mm and they’re great. Going on two years.
Hi where did you purchase your hunts wheels l. Can you tell me what website. Thank you.
@@atedotv9384 Ordered them on the official Hunt Website.
Hunt rims are trash. I have the 35mm hunts and most of the nipples for my front tire are cracked. Don’t get hunt
I saw Mapdec mechanic guy delving into this structural issue, but then why so many owners have no issues w/ them? Maybe it was just a bad batch. Not that that's an excuse because such an issue can be fatal.
I do have 10k miles on my rims@@shadowsun33
@malakajohnson Thanks. I was concerned because I just purchased 4454 and when I ride they seem great.
