    I think the Farina shape was from Italy/France. Great motoring history. Forget the faults and shape etc. It’s part of our motoring history and should be cherished. Can you watch this and not envy those wonderful times and people?

      It was from Italy. Farina is from the Italian design house “Pininfarina”
      It only became a “French” shape in the Peugeot 404 after the BMC cars came out.

    Great cars those Farina designed models. In the early 1960s they were very popular as taxis around here. They could take five passenger's and the driver of course. Great family cars as well I would imagine.

      To Bruce Gibbons. Our family had the choice in the 60's, at a used car dealer , between the MG and the Morris Oxford versions. We all wanted the even more stylish MG, with its separate looking rear seats, so 4 armchairs, to look at. But, although only 5 years old, the MG already had serious rust issues. (They just didn't have enough experience in those days, of finding what anti rust measures worked best). So it was the Morris, then. THAT turned out to be a SUPREMELY comfortable car - in the FRONT. THAT had a BENCH seat, with padding that was TWICE as deep, as on separate seats, because there were only 2 seat runners - one at either end of the bench, not 4 in total, on 2 separate seats. This allowed more unrestricted depth to the base if the seat, right down to the floor. Most comfortable car we ever owned! And these medium sized Farina cars ALL had distinct appearances, to reflect being a pooled effort between the different makers.E.G. traditional Wolseley, and more contemporary Austin's. The 1100/1300 series ALSO had distinct looks, on the MG, Wolseley, Riley models. HOWEVER, the Austin and Morris versions, just looked like each other! "COULD TRY HARDER", as their "school report" might say!

    Never did like the Farina shape. At the moment I am in the process of renovating one of the last pre Farina's , a 1958 Wolseley 14/56 . Replacing the tired 1500 B series with a later 1800 twin carb from a MGB, along with the front clip to uprate the brakes and steering, but I am keeping the body and interior as original as possible. The colour will be Jaguar Regency red, with cream leather. This old car is a labour of love.

    The Farina bodies were originally sold here in Austin, Morris and Wolsey versions. Then a 6 cylinder version of the B series engine was designed and put into the old bodies - but this time without the Morris version. The 6 cylinder version was introduced to compete with Holden, Ford Falcon and Chrysler Valiant. Never a big seller, as the styling was old-fashioned compared to the others.

      To EL PASO what does EGR valves mean?

    • @ELPaso1990TX
      @ELPaso1990TX 2 роки тому

      @@nygelmiller5293 EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves recirculate exhaust gases at certain times to re-enter combustion cylinders to reduce production of nitrogen oxides and also keep combustion temperatures lower. But over time they get clogged up with soot and carbon causing them to fail which can result in the valve being stuck open causing engine to stall at low RPM or when you take your foot off the gas pedal. This can be dangerous at busy junctions and roundabouts suddenly stalling and losing all power including steering.
      They’ve been used in cars (petrol and diesel) from about the mid 1990s.

    • @nygelmiller5293
      @nygelmiller5293 2 роки тому +1

      To Elpaso from Nygel Miller.Thanks for replying! I agree with you about engine design, the engine bay, even years ago, on my Vauxhall Carlton, was packed out with gadgets. It's not JUST the engine anymore, like on the first Mini. The bonnet of the Carlton was surely long ENOUGH without all the gadgets, that made servicing/repairing a long haul effort - trying to reach everything - WITH SPECIAL TOOLS. Engines are no longer designed to function AS ENGINES, there are other considerations such as pollution. The two things are at loggerheads! Roll on electric and hydrogen cars, that won't need all the gadgets to pass emission tests!

    That Farina shape has dated badly. Far too upright and way too narrow. Put a contemporary Jaguar next to one and you’ll soon see what I mean! Sir William Lyons’ natural sense of line and style worked, while these Farinas were a fad that faded...

      You have to keep in mind, though, that Jaguar cars were considered to be for "spivs" back then. The same set that would buy a BMW or an Audi today. The Farina saloons (especially the Vanden Plas version) were meant for someone who just wanted a quality, dignified car without all the flash. That appeals to me much more.
