New Indian FTR R Carbon First Ride | On Track!

- We've spent a lot of time riding, building and racing the previous FTR, we always wanted the bike to be a bit more road/track focused. Indian say "the 2022 FTR is a much better road", we didn't want to take their word for it so we headed to the track! #ftr #indian #ontrack

It doesn’t matter which bike it is, if Chris is here I’m here for it
Totally agree. Chris is easily one of the best road testers and UA-camrs out there. Superb rider and comes across as someone you want to be mates with.
One of the best looking bikes on the market IMO, especially in this trim/colour spec.
😁 and I've got 1
@@bryanhenderson736 Me too!
Agreed 👍I fol in love promised my self to get one
you are by far the best reviewr on UA-cam
Cheers Gareth!
@@BikeWorldTVshow Chris, please can you do a review of the Dunlop Mutants. Be great to hear what you think of them. Perfect tyre for so many of the bikes you like? Ditto what the others have said on here. By far one of the best bike testers on her. Keep up the awesome work
Zach Courts exists, ya know.

This review convinced me to book a test ride and I bought a 23’ carbon R afterwards! Super happy, so much fun. Thanks for the enthusiasm Chris!
April 23 I went to my local motorcycle shop to specifically buy the new Triumph Street Triple that everyone was raving about. Indian were having a demo day and I figured why not. I never considered the earlier FTRs because of the wheel size but loved the look of it. I took the FTR out for a spin and I'd say within 2 minutes I knew I loved it but I also knew the price for the Carbon was more than the Street Triple. When I got back, the salesperson told me they were offering $3000 off and 6 months same as cash. Ten minutes later I was in finance signing the paperwork and rode home on my new FTR R Carbon. Absolutely zero regrets and have been having a blast on it ever since.
Good job!
Will never forget my first ride on the FTR. IT TRIED TO KILL ME! Or so I thought the first 20 min. Then I started to realize it was not the bike that had a problem, it was me. This is not like ANY other street bike in the world! It is a f***ing hooligan and I LOVE it! (Bought it after i changed my pants)
I test rode one now I have to have it. Your right it's like nothing else. Seemed like an angry animal to me.
The most beautiful bike of this decade...🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍
One of the only youtube bike reviewers I look forward to watching.
Im a little bias since I own a 22 and a 19.
Great video 🙏 I just received my 2022 Carbon R No453. The only one in the Middle East, love it 👍
Back of the net.
Good for you bro
Don't blow it up
I have 22 #770 . These bikes will be remembered. Not a single bad review so far and absolutely the sickest looking bike on the road.
I truly feel You as I received mine in June... #275. So far it is the only one in the Baltic states. Sure is a head turner 😉
Finally! Been waiting to see this for awhile!!!
I got a 2024 FTR Carbon R afew days ago, and I absolutely love it!!!
Great work Chris.
I've got a 2021 FTR R Carbon (only 2 months old) and absolutely love it.
Traded my well ridden MT09 which I put 50K kms on from new and couldn't be happier with the Indian.
The engine is sublime.
How would you compare them for cornering/twisties? I am deciding between the 2021 mt-09 SP and this FTR. Thank you!
@@corvinlord Hard to give you advice on a '21 SP which is a far more advanced bike than my '15 MT-09. The new '21 model has updated chassis and engine as well as higher spec suspension.
Now - comparing the '15 to the FTR - I am far more compliant on the FTR than the MT09. The FTR is very, very stable and the throttle is very tractable on small openings meaning you can roll on early and not upset the chassis. The MT09 had a on/off throttle which made small openings hard - it was more stab and go.
Ah man, these have been a guilty pleasure of mine for a good few years.......... seriously tempted to take a proper look at owning one now! 🤔😄
Chassis looks really settled when cranked over and on the gas. Really impressive stuff!
Definitely agree with you, an Indian 1200 supermoto would be very slick. You sir absolutely know how to give a bike a proper rip!👍🏼
That bike is absolutely gorgeous!
Wow beautiful video. I own a 2022 FTR 1200 R Carbon and just Love it…
This thing looks like a Ducati Diavel or Monster. Pretty cool.
Chris, please can you do a review of the Dunlop Mutants. Be great to hear what you think of them. Perfect tyre for so many of the bikes you like? Ditto what the others have said on here. By far one of the best bike testers/presenters on here. Keep up the awesome work
3:08 hol up… did you scrap the pipes?! Damn 😂
The FTR reminds me so much of my beloved, yet departed, Husqvarna Nuda. Is it the tubular frame? Steering rake? Dunno 😕 Also, I'm thinking Chris is _that_ track day bloke, passing most on a clapped out ct110 held together with duct tape, cable-ties & hope.
Great looking bike. Conclusion at the end would be a nice prototype idea, I hope they listen :)
I love my 22 ftr absolutely a "proper" motorcycle in every aspect . Kinda does it all.
Spidi for life over here. This clip is Designer approved ✅
Call it an FTR Z "racebike". Expand the Line. I'm an Eric Buell fan that wants a Road bike, old XB9r. This will be my replacement! Great video!
The 17's are also a massive visual improvement.
Huge performance benefit too.
lmao no
Chris you are the best reviewer out there, keep it up mate. If you ever make it to the States come take my RC8C out for a spin!
Also wanted to ask what your opinion is for best super naked *track* bike.
Cheers!
Your reviews always make me smile. Very positive personality. I like this bike.
Cheers
I tested this bike this year. Carbon edition and Flat track edition(with Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde - "not for road use" with electronic exhaust flap :D :D). Carbon edition is really good and fun bike for roads, torque is like when somebody punch you in the back and suspension is really good, but Akrapovič exhaust was too silent, Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust is propper sound for this bike :D
A lot of people don't get and uprighted sit-on v-twin bikes. Its a character bike that can be an all-rounder at best, not particularly good at one thing, just does all of it with a fun factor. This bike is the only current made left in this style, since the HD XR1200 and still born Bronx, and also before, the Buell as we knew it. There is plenty of parallel twins doing this too, as I have. I would get this FTR if I could, but limited funds stop me, maybe a used one later.
Wow nice bike!
Did the 17" wheels lower the FTR's seat height a little?
i have the carbon year 2020 model with old size wheels and I have put the scorpion trail 2 Pirelli and I'm considering adding some new tyres in a couple of weeks..anything better than the scorpion to add on? my interest is to have a sport feeling for 80% street rides and 20% dirt roads
thanks.
I’ve always looked at the FTR as America’s hypermotard.
Dang. Now I need to upgrade mine.
When is the 950 ride video coming ? BTw, a list of mods and parts would be appreciated at the end of the video.
Reminds me of my 2017 Triumph street triple a little lol....good for Indian..I don't know much about them but is this there most sporty model ever produced?.Usually I see them as cruisers and Harley type of bikes
I love how it looks beautiful bike
Saving money 💰to get one
How does this compare to the Speed Triple RS? Has anyone ridden both? Similar price and both are well built.
My dream bike
An Indian For The Road perfect
Can anyone tell me just how many Carbons are made or are going to be made? Originally it was only supposed to be 750 world wide
What happened to the ftr project vlog ? It was great entertainment. Cheers
Let’s see Paul Arris’ bike….
Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God it even has a watermark….
100% spot on. I thought about the old FTR as a hooligan bike, that was a bit to long for being a Supermotar-like thing.
The wheels in 2019 should have come in 2 sizes, the old and the 17".
So they did a good thing with the wheels (thou the front fork could even be a degree more steep still)
BUT they lowerd the seathight, and for me (6"1) that was a bad thing. I dislike to be crammed-up on a bike. I rode the 2019 FTR and the seathight/position of my legs was great.
So my question would be: is the new FTR still a bike for people 6"1 and up, or more for the shorter legged riders?
still the best lookin bike tho !
does it wheelie? I think that is a strong yes. damn.
I see that it is using a single piece front discs instead of two piece. I wonder how that would affect the braking when doing hard riding for example at a track.
They’re a similar design to the BMW GS and are still a floating disc setup, with the ‘float’ provided at the bolts. Haven’t had any issues at the track yet.
Indian should make a 800ish liquid cooled vtwin with a shorter wheel base and big effort to lighten. 17 in alloy wheel option and a 18/19 spoked rally version
So you want a Street 750 with a bore kit?
Honestly, not a bike for me but I'd watch Chris read the phone book if he was this enthusiastic - proper moto journo - and he knows this bike well enough to make a real comparison.
Get that ol 950 on the track! Bang some SuMo wheels on there and yer good to go jajaja
So far, the flat track style tires only stick to the wheels.
wonder how the updates to the bike change how it works offroad and for flat tracking
Excellent question! Time to get some knobbies and figure it out. I would say that the chassis changes will improve it on flat-track as the old FTR was a bit slack, especially on the UK tracks, hence the Hooligan race bikes all have a steepened head angle.
@@chrisnorthover7582 another bike you might be interested in and putting knobbies on is the royal enfield interceptor 650 ive heard its one of them bikes made for the road but is a hidden gem offroad for rough roads in india and stuff
THANK YOU VERY MUCH 😁
Bring back Supermoto era. 🙏🙏🙏
I love it. ❤️
Polaris should dust out Victor Project 156 and make a proper streetfighter.
never mind the bike, what happened to the funky helmet design????
We think Shoei will be doing one for Chris very soon...
This or MT09?
Calling it American Ducati isn't an insult but actually a compliment!
This looks like the Arch motorcycle of Keanu
2019 model all the way, better looking too. New ones have the cat welded on
Typo in the thumbnail but solid video nonetheless!
Thanks
@@BikeWorldTVshow no worries. I’ve been eyeing the new FTR off and on for a while so I’m really excited to see you all releasing content in it.
5:44 Chris can go knee down on straightaways.
On my radar when I sell the ZX10R.
So you want the RSD kit? You won't do it..
It turned into something more profitable.
OK I want my knee down like this :))))))))

Hey Guys Indian didn’t make a 2021 FTR….. they skipped right to 2022. I own one.
Id love to see Chris ride an old Buell Ulysses round a track. I bet he'd be more impressed with it than this.
I dont understand though? IF the motor is so good then WHY doesnt Indian simply create a bonafide Sportbike ....would really be the ONLY american sportbike.....I very likely would buy one ...I have pined for an American built sportbike my entire riding life ...nobody other than buell (hampered by harley) has really even tried....i find it bizarre personally ....maybe now that Harley market is literally dying off then FINALLY someone with some cajones will correct this issue
If it had a proper 190 rear end tyre I would consider it… looks like a nice bicycle with its narrow rear tyre
This bike has a 180/55 17 rear - they showed some footage of the previous gen model with the skinnier 18" tyre and that's maybe what you thought was the current bike?
@@RikkyTang 180 is too narrow, I own the older model
It needs a 190 55 at a minimum and a 200 with some forged wheels
@@ur2slob724 ahh I see, well fair enough thanks for setting me straight
Considering the original is basically a really beefed up dirt bike which in turn is really just an advanced motorized mountain bike you are not too far off….
Support British jobs - why run Sportecs when you could have fitted Avon Spirit STs? Most Metzeler bike tyres are now made in China - Avons are still made in Blighty.
Every since Indian released the FTR, I have never understood what it was for. I still don't. Seems the enthusiasm from many places is just artificial, everyone hoping it will do the thing, happy Indian have a sporty kind of bike, happy there's some kind of American V-twin sporty thing, but it all seems so artificial because Italy, Germany, Japan, Austria, Britain have all been doing this sort of thing for decades and do it all so much better in every way. Name one metric in which the FTR accomplishes more in one aspect than the whole list of naked sporty bikes around the market. I think any aspect could be named and a few other bikes would pop to mind that does it better. I've never seen an FTR in a naked street bike shootout, a supermoto shootout, a cruiser shootout, a scrambler shootout, a cafe racer shootout. It's so far from any actual flat tracker motorcycle that it's a complete joke to bother mentioning it. The powertrain does well in the Scout but its just weird in the FTR. Seems Buell did a better job incorporating a cruiser engine into a sports chassis making a bike that wasn't trying to be something it isn't, at least the Buell excelled at some particular thing that most other bikes didn't.
That's a nice Ducati, oops...sorry, Indian lol. I wonder which European manufacturer the have 'borrowed' heavily from?
