Every time I think I've settled on my favorite Pink Floyd song, I realize that I'm just fooling myself. I've changed favorites many times, and lately I've been listening to Have a Cigar more than the others. Most other bands don't come close to having ONE song of this caliber, yet Floyd has too many to choose from.. Absolute legends!
Been basically having this conversation with different people the last two nights. And trying to pick a favorite, this one was what I said last night, but listening to everything tonight, there can't really be a favorite. I don't even think I can pick a favorite album.
This has been my #1 PF song since I was 16. Everyone likes what they like...I'm 46 now and Shine On You Crazy Diamond, follwed by Welcome To The Machine are #2 and #3, respectively.
It's in the back cover of the LP. I watched a recent interview of Roy Harper about his relationship with the members of the band and the making of this particular song. Very interesting!
Agreed, just as well Roger Waters got over ruled (somehow), as he cracked the shits because he didn't want Roy Harper to sing it. Apparently , he wanted to sing it himself.
If it were any other great band, this would be their best song ever. But, for Pink Floyd it's just one of many. Mind blowing-ly good. As lyrically efficient as it could possibly be... two verses conveying an entire world within 5 minutes. That simply does not happen anymore.
Yes! omg I wish someone could remix that synth in the beginning and in the end throughout the whole song, my only complaint but still great, I'm into music and can tell where in the song it would go good at
No other group has such a lengthy catalog like Pink floyd. Legends 4ever. So happy to hv shared space on earth 🌎 while this magic was being written, & performed. What a wonderful time to be alive.

It's not about Floyd selling out, it's about the scum business entities that pat their back and attach themselves like leeches to the fortunes wrought by the musical and lyrical talent of the band.
Leeches? You make it so one-sided. Sure, without a great band the record producer makes nothing, but the band without the record producer plays high school dances for their entire career.
One of the best guitar solo ever, not only that but this song has a funk to it, much like fame by David bowie, but much darker. Some of these songs that were release decades ago were so far ahead of their time, it's a masterpiece. I don't know if that's a synthesizer or what that makes the "waaa wa waaa waaaaaa" but it's sick. The entire song is layered perfectly with the light abs dark tones of the song, the different instruments and the funk type bass line mixed with the classic rock sound, it's perfect, then Roger waters of course his voice and tone/ pitch in different parts of the song set the mood perfectly. I only wish someone could make music this good today. Unfortunately we live in a mass produced, dumbed down, cheap Era of music where people accept crap for music and don't have the attention span or appreciation for things like this

I think this would be a great intro song for the new Seattle Kraken NHL team!. Of course the title of the song might be the end of that idea. But they wouldn’t have to advertise the title. Do the intro, then loop it back or just skip the great Roy Harper vocals & tie it in to just after, so David Gilmour’s guitar solo rocks the fans. And yes! You would have to have it loud! The Seattle SuperSonics of yesteryear used Jeff Beck’s “Freeway Jam”. I remember the first time I heard this album. I guess I was around 18. Probably around 1976. I went to a buddy's house and usually I'd knock and tell them to tell Fred I was here. This time they let me in and said Fred was the basement. I had never been in their basement. I went downstairs and he was smoking some herb. I was shocked he smoked herb in the house. Even in the basement with everyone there. So we sat down there smoking and he pulls out this album. Looked strange. I had heard of Pink Floyd but not this album. I turned it over and here is a man on fire shaking another man's hand. I was like, what the hell is this? He put that album on and I was blown away. I had never heard it.
