Just a quick note - this was recorded this past Monday (we were banking a show in advance of the holidays), so almost a week ago, and so the Karl video where he shows more of the Discord call of Jirard pleading and trying to manipulate the situation more hadn’t come out yet. Since seeing that, and Karl’s presentation of more of the information, it seems very obvious that Jirard is an even bigger liar than initially assumed. It was a huge fuck up, but some honesty would’ve gone a long way. Still not sure I see evidence that anyone intended to literally steal it, since the money was all there, but it sure is ridiculously immoral to mismanage people’s donations that badly, then try to cover it up, and then try to manipulate it legally to save face. Not to mention suspicious as hell in the first place. Just want to make that clear - I’ve got no issue being an apologist for someone who needs apologizing for, but the team over at Club Jirard doesn’t have my sympathies right now! As for Jason being a fan and all that - we love Jason and we found it interesting to get a long time fan’s perspective on something like this happening. Some of you are saying the foundation wasn’t created when Jirard was a kid, that it’s more recent, but Jason did point out it opened in 2003, so I’m not sure who’s right there. Not sure it matters too much. As I said, Jirard’s responsible.

It's funny to think about, but JonTron is probably the only dude I'd trust at his word out of that whole group. For all the various stories I've heard over the years, he seems to be the only person who always had loyalty to his friend group. And in return, they the him under the bus 😅
The money literally isn't all there. A bunch of Twitch donations that were said to be being donated are now said to have been used for administrative costs despite promising to not do so and not to mention the missing golf tournament money. The amounts don't make sense for 9 years of doing this given the totals each year
@@seanami8701 I was referring to the fact that 600K was donated. Was that right amount? Was it meant to be more?
@RedCowArcade the amount in the bank was more than 600k (according to tax filings he could have just been "rounding" the value though), but if you do math on the totals earned from all 9 years, individual celebrity donations and the golf way more than 600k should be there

I think you guys skipped some points:
1) The fraud is not about Jirard taking the money from his Charity for himself; it's the fact that they kept the money for 10+ years and lied for years, claiming the money was going to organizations when it never did. This includes fake quotes from people in research institutions, such as the USF. The money was only donated because Karl and Mutahar made everything public. Karl had one good line recently, something like, "If we hadn't made the videos we did, that money would still be sitting in their bank account doing nothing to fight dementia." Who knows what their end goal was with this money?
2) The money from golf, streaming, and merch APPARENTLY never went to the Charity. I think, if true, this also can be considered charity fraud.
3) Jirard's response was manipulative, to say the least.
Enjoy RC but yes, they were a bit under prepared to discuss this. Luckily I think everyone has seen all the source videos at this point, lol.
The newish Karl video put more in perspective, this was recorded a week ago unfortunately.

In Jirard's video he states that his mom passed away when he was 25 and then they started the charity, so he could hardly be considered a kid

He didn’t leave, Jirard kicked him off the show while he was his best friend for like 10 years. I’m pretty sure that was money motivated too since he got a new office the first video that Greg wasn’t in. Probably couldn’t afford it while having Greg on the payroll.
It seems money based things have followed him for awhile.
In recent years I've come to believe that there are genuinely no kind people out there, because every act of kindness is rooted in manipulation of some kind. That's why people see cynicism, bitterness, and anger as being more trustworthy because they think "Why would someone think that being a total jerk would manipulate me? This guy must be honest."
It's situations like this that push people towards that line of thinking. This guy was very wholesome, running a wholesome event, and now it's being revealed that he is very manipulative, and the wholesome event was likely a scam.
The people defending him are trying to hold on to a type of innocence and naivety. They want to believe that the wholesome man was just being a wholesome man, and those wicked bitter and cynical commentary UA-camrs were all wrong.

*UA-camrs don't constitute "people",* stop being an imbeciIe. There are plenty of charity initiatives that work, like Telethon, Games Done Quick... you just have to not be naive and keep it up with the process of donation.

It's worth pointing out that Jirad is on the board of the charity. This means he has to be informed where the money is at. The charity must have meetings once per quarter to discuss this and he's legally required to attend a specific percentage of them. He knew where the money was at the entire time
Also there was an accountant who went over the taxes and found money is indeed missing

No, actually, it hasn't. That's one of the things that made people suspicious.
The charity only came into existence in the 2010s. The website says the foundation was formed in 2002, or something, but there's no tax filings until 2013-2014 (I don't remember the exact year, but I think it's around that time).
Open Hand isn’t a charity, it’s essentially a holding company.

Karl didn't make his career just by talking about Billy Mitchell, his channel was big before that, it is mostly related with gaming speedrunning feats
It's pretty bad that they didn't donate for 10 years and the only donated once they were caught. On its own that is bad. But there's still unaccounted for money and the bigger issue is that he lied repeatedly for years about the money. It's fraudulent. His response video was pretty bad because he just kind of avoided responsibility, kicked up a swirl of dust to try and trick people into thinking the accusations were addressed, and didn't bring any receipts to anything that mattered. He also did things like implied accusations were made against him that weren't (like, he tried to make it seem like people were attacking his mother or claiming they didn't donate her body to science, when no one talked about that or went after the mother at all). The dude is a manipulative sleeze and hiding behind his dead mother seems to be a definite pattern with him.

Strange that you guys get on Karl and Mutahar's case for saying what they do, while making a lot of strange claims yourselves while handwaving a lot of key information! Just because what they say is risky doesn't mean it shouldn't be said, and nothing you said really exonerates Jirard on a moral level. I get that it's supposed to be a casual podcast, but if you're tackling a subject like this and speak with authority about it (at least that one guy seems to be) you should at least have the facts straight.

Billy Mitchell has lied for years about his high scores, and Jobst actually had proof and evidence to back this up, so Mitchell went after him with frivolous lawsuits in hopes to silence any actions against him. This clown comes in with no understanding of the situation and spouts some dumb shit about it, it's just a bad look all around, especially with the hot takes on Jirard. I love your guy's content, but this aint it.

I'm not willing to give Jirard a pass as he was a director, and a main fund raiser, who also had the responsibility of finding people to donate too. The guy was completely negligent of his role.

Karl is a speedrunner and there's no gaming community that take things more seriously than the speedrunning community. When a fraud occurs among them, the level of investigation, scrutiny with tons of proof is unbelievable...
Someordinarygames is a commentary channel like any other... Karl tackled the bloated market of rare games and he's still alive, he's putting Billy Mitchell into a corner, there's no comparison between the two.
There are two parts about Jirard’s response that are particularly irksome:
1. Jirard constantly recites numbers but provides no receipts or corroboration for those numbers. He even apologizes “if you feel misled.” What a joke.
2. He invokes his mom an awful lot. He published her autopsy results in order to prove they donated her brain and spine to science for some reason. He also acted as though that everything at the charity was above board because it was created in his mother’s memory. It’s really disgusting that he’s trying to use her as a shield.
Whoever that third guy is, he ruined this entire video.

It's not speculative when it literally shows how much each company pays for a certain level package. Each tournament brought in a minimum of 30k and made as much as 50-60k by there own signage and admissions but that money is never shown in the books. What about that is speculation 🤣 clown take

I've known a lot of local musicians who had their band break up, and now everyone's bickering about "I contributed that bassline" "I wrote that chorus" and their music winds up just disappearing from the face of the Earth because the output is being used as a political football in their personal drama.

Jirard bought the games from eshop under the pretense of donating the files for preservation. The foundation he tried to send everything to didn't accept the donation. Because it's not as simple as sending the files and hosting somewhere. Pretty sure this was shared by users on the completionist subreddit before it went private.

This is yet another proof that e-celebs (especially big ones like Jirard) aren't supposed to be your friends, no matter how friendly they appear to be.
There was a big UA-cam drama in my country recently, where it was revealed that a few UA-camrs who were supposed to be "one of the good ones" turned out to be the kind of people they were publicly criticizing.

I used to stream on Twitch many moons ago. I always wanted to do a 24hr charity livestream.
If I ever had the chance to do that livestream. I would have provided links to donate directly to the charity I was representing. I absolutely would never want to actually want to touch that money myself. I don't like the idea of holding money that isn't mine. The idea that $600,000 was just sitting around collecting dust is wild. Shit, I'd start feeling uneasy if I had $100 laying around that wasn't mine.
I would have raised money for Shiners Children's Hospitals. Mainly because they saved my life when I was 14. I saw their work with my own eyes. I know donating to them actually makes an impact.

There are so many options for streaming for charity too that Twitch provides now, which is nice. You do the work and the money goes to them via a widget or a link that connects to your profile. There are ways to do it where you don't have to "touch" the money. You should look into it still! Could be fun!
Yep. You don't want a middle man. Then it opens up a lot of issues. Accusations, taxes, and so on. I used to work for charities when I was younger. All kinds of pitfalls.

In my younger years, I worked for charities. They would jump through hoops to deliver exactly what they said to remain 503c. One even spent far more money than they had to deliver the exactness of the promise, because they feared the lawsuits or worse. Not giving the money is not doing exactly what you promised.

It's all just fish eating other fish, Jobst doesn't mince words about his need of money. He's a vulture, perhaps a virtuous one by who he decides to target but a vulture nonetheless. Mutahar actually seems like the more sympathetic of the two despite him being the one with more to gain as the sideman not having to stake as much. I have personal beef with Jirard as well so through all of this I just hope there's some kind of mutual destruction.

@@RedCowArcade possibly, I'm far from a financial wiz but we had a crewer pay us 45 days after jobs instead of standard 30. We suspected they were getting the labor fee from production after 25-30 days then sitting on it for 15-20 days in an account to earn interest. A few % interest isn't a ton but when it's a large balance, the small percentage could be thousands of dollars.
@@cubeincubes if your money is sitting in a savings account, it shouldn't be affected by inflation if none gets taken out or transfers to stocks or an IRA, etc.
more importantly, that money loses major purchasing power by letting it sit there for an extended period of time without putting it to use.
