ABOUT
Argentina's most famous musician lets a wind of Latin America blow upon the Berlin amphitheatre. This exotic programme culminates with the famous Concierto de Aranjuez, performed by John Williams.
It is one of the most appealing outdoor stages on the European continent, and the Berliner Philharmoniker settles there every year for a summer concert which gathers over 20 000 people each time. This very festive event is without any doubt one of the most important and popular rendez-vous of the classical music lovers around the world.
The vision of classical music depicted by the event - a perfect quality and a large audience - totally fits to medici.tv's philosophy, and this is why we made available on our website these iconic concerts since 1999 (view the playlist Walbühne Berlin).

So beautiful!!! and what a nightmare for the sound engineers to match the guitar with a full blown orchestra in an open auditorium the size of the Waldbühne....
I am Mexican-American, my grandma was Spanish so , of course, I feel tied to the great land of Don Quiote.... so, when I hear this masterpiece, it sends shivers to my soul.... What a blessing!
Viva Espania 🇪🇸 ❤❤❤❤
Viva , Don Quijote ! Viva Spania !
It’s an absolute joy to hear and see the guitar wielded so beautifully, so masterfully, with such clarity, such control, such elegance…
Thank you! Blessings
My first record was John’s recording of this Concerto, and the Mario Castelnuevo Tedesco’s renowned concerto. It was recorded before 1965, so John Williams has been playing this piece for over 60 years.
Bravo🎉 to John Williams, the head cellist and the wind section- clarinets and flutes and for keeping it all together, Maestro❤❤😊👌
Many conductors believe they are the stars of the show. Here is an example. Mr. Williams IS THE STAR!
Utterly stunning🎉. What an artist. What a performance as a whole ❤
No me cansaré nunca de escuchar a Joaquin Rodrigo!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love Barenboim,s time and feel.
Absolutely wonderful! I bet I've watched this over 100 times and it gets better each and every time.
Maestro Williams always looks so relaxingly in control that he appears to be performing to a playback recording.
Superb performance. Rodrigo 2nd movement is the most heart moving composition ever composed. Some reminisce. Others lament. And still others are filled with both courage and hope.
¡¡¡ UNIQUE!!!. WONDERFUL !!!!!!❤❤
What a treasure to watch! Stunning! Bravissimo 🍷👏👏👏🌹
VERY, VERY PLEASANT.
David Baxter.
Great !!!!!!
The best I've have heard! Bravo! Gorgeous clarity a nd passion!
Very special!
BEAUTIFUL.
David Baxter.
I easily get romantic and think in rustic terms... So, effete criticisms on music technicalities are meaningless to my " bumpkin" soul. BTW, the absolutely finest lobster dinner I ever had was in a palm thatched, dirt floor restaurant in a remote part of Mexico. The resaurant was owned by peasants. Their son, went down a high cliff to the rocky shore andcame up with the lobsters. It was prepared by the owner and served with frijoles, salsas, tortillas.... the plates and everything about the restaurant purely rustic ...but oh so romantic.... even the old family dog lazily watching my wife and I dine. You should have been there. My wife passed away last year, and listening to this piece evoked wonderful memories connected to my Spanish heritage and our lobster dinners with frijoles, corn tortillas, old dog, dirt floor, and such. Yes, to effete critics, the lobster dinner would be substandard, no doubt. My wife and I were in our late thirtees and traveling all over Mexico.
PAZ❤❤❤
Sorry for your loss. The music, heavenly! 🎉
Amazing amazing
Maravillosa interpretacion! Bravo!!!❤
Amazing performance! Bravo!

Super
Jonh Williams became in one of my favorites guitar player, I love his sonority, sensibility conducted by Daniel Barenboim, this piece Is a real present. Thanks for sharing it 🙏🦋
Magnifique!
Thanks for sharing!!
Sublime!😀
As much as I love John Williams' other guitar work, this or any other classical guitarist interpretation of this piece can't be compared to Paco de Lucia's interpretation, as if Rodrigo had specifically composed it for him.
John Williams, superlative Spanish guitarist, Bravo 😮
ABSOLUTEMENT.
Increíble 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've listen carefully the encore 23:50, 'La última canción', it is simply one of the most sublime experience in any live recording I could get for the past 40 years. The flowing pace with the subtle harmonies blended effortlessly together with dynamics and tranquillo phrasing. (w/ reference to his 2004 recording [The Ultimate Guitar Collection], this Waldbühne encore even achieved more, musically.)
Chanting lightly from the minor towards major ending, the ease and relaxed passages are song without words, at the same time hinted many amazing musical decisions while getting rid of random disturbances (one tremolo group, perfect as always, had arrived early to the next string, but no harm at all) on stage. How much musicality, technical accomplishment, and literacy the maestro could have?? These qualities are astounding.
All is done naturally and flawlessly and getting more and more into the music itself, that is a very true musician. I perform 7-string instrument in Ancient Asian genre. Salute to John Williams with all respect and admiration from my heart.
!Que Belleza!!!
Musica española ❤!
Gracias
This really is a gem . Love John Williams
Difícil de creer que sean mortales
Hermoso concierto.
❤❤❤❤❤
I am so sorry that you tube ruined my pleasure to listen to this music because your commercial interests..

Why the heck would you post a long concerto then allow midvideo ad monetisation to break it with loud ads!
Get UA-cam Premium, then you have no ads - endless listening. It’s worth it.
Sogovia said the beauty of the guitar resides in its quiet voice. I really don’t think it shines as much in a setting with a loud orchestra. It seems out of its element. IMHO
Notice how guitar players aren't used to conductors: Mr Williams jumped ahead of the baton at the start of the 1st and 2nd movements.
Ah, you found a tiny little detail to show your knowledge about "guitarists".... JW played with who knows how many conductors thoughout his career and i'm sure he is used to that. He played a perfect Aranjuez but you saw that he was ahead of the baton TWICE! Thumbs up for your very intelligent comment
IMHO Absolutely not ! He plays the first chord strings by strings and accentuates the first strings on the beat.
He plays in Solo …so he interprets the beat too or do like he feels.
He played so many time with orchestra so what are you thinking… Don’t compare the eventual problems of guitarist with his huge experience and knowledge.
I’ve seen in Berlin philharmonic Guidon Kremer starting the first note of violin Barton concerto barely walking thru the stage …!He was not taking any moment to concentrate or breathing !?
That’s an other thing but show the different level of experience and confidence.
Best regards.
This concert is extremely difficult to play. Like all Spanish music, the first and last movements are all about rhythm, like an unstoppable train. No time for rubatos, fermatas, nothing. Plus, Mr Barenboim is always intimidating, impatient and unforgiving, plus the huge audience in an open stage with little sound feedback. This performance wasn't for everybody.
4:16 ❤
I could have sat there all day love John Williams music.
This concert is not that it is extremely difficult to play, but that there are parts that are impossible to play and the guitarists adapt them to be able to play them. Rodrigo did not want to learn about the guitar technique, and that is the reason why Andrés Segovia never wanted to play this work. In his next work for guitar and orchestra, Fantasia para un gentilhomme, Rodrigo did not make the same mistake again, and Andrés Segovia did want to play it.
@@maesepedro9550 Segovia always altered scores to his liking. He didn't play this concerto because it wasn't written for him!
Right, mi amigo. But, it can't hurt, if you make the effort to tune in, people might hear something beyond the glitzy mundane.❤
VIVA 🇪🇸 Espania
A splendid performance of fabulous music but wonderful artists ….. a pity that the greed merchants at UA-cam don’t hold any of these values as sacrosanct because in my part of the globe they peppered this concert with advertising…. rendering it unwatchable.
Muchas gracias.
2:02 wrong entry
Why do so many conductors use such rediculous clothes?
Guitar playing brilliant as expected but guitar not loud enough or orchestra too loud imo.
Andrés Segovia, mejor guitarrista en mi opinión.
🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵💐💐💐💐💐
📍22:43
2📍 17:45
Too much fast tempo, even not catchable guitar sound, Barenboim's failure
The concert in Seville was superior. Tempo and sound mixing. Difficult in a large venue such as this
❤❤❤
Total relaxation of the body. He makes it look so easy.
Sublime
WAH !
Just so beautiful and takes you to lands faraway 😌
