    love how I've used this modeling program for 4+ years and never knew this. thank you so much dude , so useful for 3d printing can't wait to see what tolerances I can get with this!!

    This is one of the MAJOR 'Keys to the Kingdom' for my 3d printing projects! It took less than 10 minutes to download, install, make the Inventor threads righteous and slice them. Uber-Thanks!

    What a fantastic tool. You explain it very well as always. Probably won't get used at work very much but I have had to produce real threads with Inventor a few times. The latest was a month ago. Luckily after being a CNC turner for 25 years I knew what I was looking for in the model so not too bad. This tool and your tutorial will make it a doddle !
    Very well done Sir ! ! !

    There is a "real" use for modelled thread, namely 3d printing. In normal CAM you don't need the modelled threads, but when you send a part to a 3d printer you'll need it :-)

    I used to design specialist bolts for the electrical industry (on Pro-E). I always modeled the threads but it was a ball-ache to do. This is great, especially if you need accurate mass data or want to 3D print working models.
    Learned a bit about Inventor at the same time.

    Used it! Had to remove my threaded hole and use the Thread tool in Inventor. Then, use Coolorgange. It did not like that I'd at first used the thread feature under the hole command. Weird. But, searched online for coolorange troubleshooting and it was a known issue that the threads made by the hole command would not work. It is wonder-magical when it works!

  • @jimboslice751
    @jimboslice751 8 років тому +1

    FYI if you do a threaded hole be sure the ID of the hole you make before adding the thread is the OD of the thread size, not the drill size.

    As an extra tip... This tool creates a separate body for the threads. When you create drawing details you are going to see the difference so what can be done is to use combine tool in order to keep the bolt as a single body part.

    I use some fasteners that are not in the content center so I download them in a solid works fomat which inventor converts, I break the link and check them in. They are flawlessly modeled complete with threads.
    The thing to watch out for is that even in smaller assemblies the drawing views take forever to update and can crash causing loss of work. Then when I update properties on my largest assemblies the waiting time massively increased. The drawings do look better though.

      Lindy Hopper I think it's more because you just can, it definitely isn't a requirement in most normal use cases. Probably useful and more aimed at those folk who want to show external threads in renders, there wouldn't be a lot of point in physically modelling the thread on a bolt and then hiding it in a hole! But it's free and just one of those things where it's like yea, we can do it, so you can now do it if you want to!

  • @WolfManJammer

    This plugin seems to have great potential while using Inventor Pro 2016. The only problem is that it doesn't do NPT threads?! I can select either the NPT or NPT for PVC Pipe and Fitting from the Thread tool drop down, then attempt to use coolOrange only to have the error "Threaded face surface type is not cone surface but it is applied with tapered thread. Thread Modeler cannot modelize this thread". In reviews on the appstore download site, this concern was brought up by someone in June, 2015 in where a developer responded that in version "16.0.31.0 NPT threads are supported". Since we're now looking at the latest version (16.0.39.0) has this feature been removed? That seems counter productive. Is there an equivalent pipe type that matches NPT that would be recognized? ISO, etc... asking here because I haven't received help from coolOrange devs on this. Thanks.

    • @jimboslice751
      @jimboslice751 8 років тому

      I found that when doing an NPT thread you must have a hole or rod with 1.7899 deg of taper (NPT taper angle) then place the thread, then use the thread modeler

    I love it. But being a drafter/designer for almost 20 years, you better make sure all the others are aware of it in the company. Many will tell you, especially the engineers, that it's a waste of time and most likely will tell you not to use it. That's the harsh reality in this business. Lots of narrow thinking people. What happens if someone else in the office opens your assembly and doesn't have the thread feature downloaded?
