A goats foot: At the end, when his toe is already missing, Regus is leaving the company whilst limping his injured foot. Nobody seems to notice him departing the building. In Legends and Tales the devil is a limping figure (because one of his feet is the claw of a goat). When the devil comes in disguise, the limping foot may be a indication to recognize him. Being unnoticed by the employees, the devil leaves the building without hiding his handicap.

You didn’t mention the fact that upon Mr. Sang’s exit, Patoff puts a weight on his shoulders as he slowly descends the stairs while at the same time cutting to Patoff pulling the statue up the stairs. Showing Mr. Sang’s descent as a mortal and ascension as an immortal figure.

Or it could be referencing how people did not want to know their arrangements. And based on the weight and creaking of the stairs, maybe it was showing how the statue contained Mr. Sang? Just a theory

@@tygorton I wouldnt say its insanely layered, rather there are quite a few singular metaphors. Its just 2 layers actually, 1 os the general biblical meanings of eg the color red, the 3am calling, the creation of chaos out of nothing ( when employees fight for the office), the statue worship as it refers to the calf from mount Sinai, etc and the 2nd layer is how these portrayed in the movie. But sure there are quite many in numbers od these references.

Upon analyzing the evidence, it becomes clear that Patoff is the embodiment of evil in the show. Religious contexts refer to 3am as the 'Devil's hour,' and in episode 2, Patoff calls Elaine at that time, which could be interpreted as the first time he influenced her. The color red is used throughout the show to symbolize the spread of evil. The server room lighting turns red whenever Patoff walks by, and the staircase and Patti's dress are both red. Patti only starts wearing her red dress after receiving persuasive text messages from Patoff, which could suggest her alignment with evil. When Craig was getting drinks with Patoff, his 'Blue' drink started to appear red after being influenced by Patoff. Patoff not only figuratively embodies evil but also literally embodies it through his solid gold skeleton, which is often associated with greed, making it a fitting metaphor for Patoff's evil nature. Furthermore, the jeweler, Florez, who casted Patoff's gold skeleton, was so engulfed with greed that he used his wife's wedding band. Finally, the server room is fully red at the end of the show, emphasizing Patoff's malevolent influence over the characters. Overall, these details strongly suggest that Patoff is the embodiment of evil, converting those around him from a good blue to his malevolent red sway.

Regus represents the current system by which people "get ahead" in life. He isnt human, he's an idea. Elaine accepted his tutelage screwing over everyone she loved and that got her a place at the top. Craig on the the other hand resisted him every way, doing the right thing and is eventually screwed over by the system. Its like a weird new age satire.

Patoff and the show also gave me the impression that the people he used to help him get up the stairs, it was a form of oppressing them. And I'm not sure of Patoff's orgins but given his age and name. Maybe he was born in the 60s in Russia? Which I can't help think was fresh from WII. He also calls the employees comrades which is interesting imo.
During the 1st time I watched Patoff's meeting with Sang I thought he used mind control. And then you see what happens to Patti. He gets the best out of them (what he wants). He does this with Elaine. I think he uses the WWII based of mind control MKUltra. Which 1st you have to traumatize them and then reset the person. Where all of the employees are traumatized by the death of their boss, Mr. Sang. Now all Patoff had to do was reset them for what he need for them to do. His name even. Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. MKUltra was a U.S CIA program. Patoff almost feels government created.
Patti at the end became a machine until Elaine showed up.

not mind control whatsoever. the devil if you read upon it in the bible, or explanations of the devil based off of the bible, you will know there are literally 0 supernatural skills the devil has. and it applies here too. sang was convinced, to be killed, because the devil, patoff, knew that that kid wanted to be immortal. so he offered immortality for to be dead. patti, was cheated on by craig, which patti knew all along. but it resurfaced in her, the anger and the not-dealing with it earlier frustration. so the devil used this, cheating, the sexal act to decieve patti. since patti was cheated on, its fair to think, that patti does believe it qould be ok, to, as a revenge, and to get even, also cheat on craig. the devil used this concept of revenge. as for elaine, elainr is portrayed the most rational, and without sin. how did the devil persuade her? by showing her, she could also have hervery own office, which is a sort of liberation - not having to work right next to others. Then the devil showed elaine how to get this liberation, by not directly sinning -convincig another human to give his office up. which is what the devil did to elaine - convincing her to get his ex to fo the work with simple law, attraction and the promise of sx.

The symbolic meaning of patoff being made from gold, to me meant that while gold isn't inherently evil, it can be used to persuade and corrupt (much like how patoff was able to persuade and corrupt the people who was working for him). The devil also likes to imitate god through deception which I thought was clear in many cases throughout the show. Also, Sang basically signed a deal with the devil. He was told he would become immortal, but not in the way he expected. He exchanged life to become immortal.
In the intro there is also a Serpant. There are too many signs pointing to the devil in this show.

    • @VanillaEnigma

    • @larryn4219
      @larryn4219 7 місяців тому

yes you are right, the devil imitates some aspects of what god is capable of. but the devil is not capable of any miracles. he doesnt fly, cant part oceans, cant walk on water - probably this is the reference to the gold skeleton body. God as Jesus was so light, he could walk on water. The devil as a polar opposite, can hardly take steps on a stair he is so heavy. Btw, downwards, he is fine. upwards, patoff needs immense human help. that probably in itself references the cast out of the devil from the heavens, where those glass steps are metaphors for stairsteps to heaven. its an added effect of the metaphor, that as the devil might want to climb back to heaven, the stairs of heaven creek, or cry.

The notion of the corporate ladder and ladder to a managerial suite is a great parallel, which actually puts everything in perspective. The name of Regus Patoff symbolizes that this corporate ladder was created in US and practiced massively in the US corporate world. The top of the corporate pyramid is money as symbolized by gold skeleton of Regus.
Regus uses good people (from the bottom) like Craig and Elaine to literally climb on their backs to the top of the corporate ladder. Those who show a small weakness (like Iain) on the top are quickly removed by others (like Elain did). Speaking of Elaine. Elaine is actually doing a radical transition from being a naive and an angelic girl who mops the floors and cleans the walls to a manipulative manager that will do anything (cheating, lying, using others) to get what she wants and this helps her to ascend to the top of the ladder and eventually replace Regus. The talented and skilled professionals like Craig are heavily abused to get the business running with everything being taken from them. In the series Craig gets heavily abused and obsessed with money (Regus) and loses his mental health and his girlfriend. Same happens to Milani, the beautiful Russian girl, which becomes severally damaged in the process. And on side note that hints on dangers of applying US corporate policies in other countries as even more damaging. The people who are dangerous to this world (Frank Florenz) and know the costs of this corporate abuse are ruthlessly assaulted and silenced by human animals.
I'd say that this series is a tough critics on US corporate world and the way they operate.

There is no singular and continuous plot and every episode feels disconnected from the previous. The writing is not great, in my opinion. I thought of Patoff as the devil, either figuratively or literally. I mean he signs contracts with people who then die, similar to how making a deal with the devil ends with the devil taking your soul. Except in this case, the soul is taken first and the dreams come true of whoever Patoff made the deal with. With Sang I think he serviced Patoff as a way to sign the deal that Patoff would help Sang's business and make Sang famous, but Sang didn't know that Patoff would have Sang killed as a way to limit Sang's possible interference into making his dreams come true. Plus the kid that killed Sang literally said "The devil made me do it."

Biggest plot hole - random child kills your boss. ANY and I mean ANY human being would be all over that scandal. Local and National news would be all over that story. Journalists would be hounding the police for the child’s motive - potential charges. The entire staff never mentions this child again - in fact they immediately start accusing Regus of being responsible for his murder. When Regus said the child was in the back of his car - Craig doesn’t even question this. How did you get him from the police? This really bothered me. Beyond basic human behaviour being overlooked to force a narrative - regarding your religious thematic analysis. He is the devil. The kid sold his soul to him for the ability to win any game he plays. Hence the child being the ONLY person capable of completing level 316 of Mr. Sang’s Jungle Odyssey, not because of skill, because of his deal. I’d wager his deal was more to be skilled at anything he does with his hands - for instance the immaculate detail in his drawing when Regus visited him to give him the phone and complete his end of the deal - kid’s deal isn’t fulfilled if he can’t actually play any games. And on that note - you should take a closer look at the child’s drawing 😉 Craig and Elaine were also a metaphor for Adam and Eve - remember the snake band Craig was going to have made for his wedding ring? Elaine took the fruit offered to her by the devil and was corrupted - leaving the ‘garden’ and embracing sun. Craig rejected it. Mr. Sang’s mum literally name drops the devil as being the cause of her son’s death. His entire schtick was ‘temptation’ to sin. The shoes coming off at the office wasn’t to increase productivity it was highlighting the successful shift from workplace to place of worship - he turned it into a church of sin. His records he left Elaine aren’t personnel files - they’re lists of every sin each person who works their has committed - giving Elaine complete and utter control over the newest sect to worship Regus. He targeted the gaming company for the sole purpose of targeting people’s greed and gluttony and using those games to spread sin - hence all the violence and self-harm created by his incredibly addicting game. The reason the game was finished while Craig wasn’t there is that Regus manipulated the game to spread sin - ‘he changed it to be more random - it’s more (fun) that way’. I was actually really disappointed that they made it so transparent he was the devil. Right down to literally having a golden skull and no brain - he’s just a vessel. Because of this I’m actually hoping there is no season 2, I enjoyed the show - but without any mystery is kind of just silly. I’m sure the next season will be him making some robot toy or Ai that is a must have in every home - slowly spreading sin and corrupting the world more than it already is - and Craig trying to stop him + Save Elaine’s soul 🥱😴

I also found interesting Mama Sang, who was distraught and later was found mindlessly playing on the phone that Regus gave her. I think it symbolized how we distract ourselves with temptations and will actively seek out that which is bad for us if it rewards us. She mentioned Regus payed for her stay, got her clothing, a phone, taught her English all good things but not realizing he killed her son.

You missed the entire "devilish" undertones in all that Patoff does. For example, he erects the statue of Sang, but it's obvious mockery - the lays, the hat, the office women joking around it. You could also say it was a false idol for those to worship. Every turn, Patoff was being devious. The devil is supposed to promise you everything, but deliver nothing - and he does that. He takes everything you have and delivers emptiness and ungodliness. To believe Patoff is Jesus means you missed the trickster nature of his every move.

Here's the weird stuff I found and apparently, I was looking at this completely differently than you guys.
Have fun with it. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
    - "the coder writes the games but they don't create the game. The creator in the sky creates the games". It sounds like Patoff is the demiurge. Also, our mind can be linked to the sky. It's above all. The thoughts don't create the game. The mind does.
    - "sometimes we have to sacrifice the baby to win the game" Babies are juvenile thoughts. We do need to get rid of them to win the game. Or it could be the Jesus sacrifice.
    - The show starts out with the pothead guy in bed. Is this all a dream?
    - There is a maze at the top of the stairs which looks like a brain.
    - Green exits everywhere. They don't seem to go anywhere.
    - Both main characters have partners with way too similar names: Patty and Patrice. So, are pothead and curly girl the same person, symbolizing male and female? During one of the last episodes, one couple starts to look exactly like pothead and curly girl. Are they alllll the same person?
    - When they go to the 10th floor, the elevator appears to be going down. What the!
    - Pothead said he met his girlfriend when he was having something removed and she was attending. Melanie was also having something removed and Patoff was attending.
    - Looking at the walls, it looks like there are all kinds of eyes watching. I take that to mean that there are all kinds of eyes watching us in the game. Or the brain is always watching, observing.
    - What is the celtic symbol at the gas station? Is it a tree of life thing?
    - "Who owns us?" "We work for a sociopath." Very demiurge feeling. But that could also be the mind.
    - Records room - the mind documents or remembers everything
    - Patoff calls pothead and curly girl at all hours of the night. The brain also stirs our thoughts at all hours of the night.
    - Mr. Sang same number of syllables as Jesus Christ. Mr. Sang is from Soeul (soul). Patoff played by Christoph (Christ).
    - The rule to take off shoes at work means baring your sole (soul).
No idea where some of this fits but I'm getting:
We're all in the game and we can be the creator or the coder. Some of them in this show figure it out. It's up to us.

This was great, thank you! Just finished the show and have spent almost as long diving into possible meanings and explanations. I felt the same way about a lot of things you picked up on. I definitely lean towards a more sinister view of him being the devil or demon. The whole title sequence with flies and his silhouette behind the glass leads to think of the devil (the lord of the flies being one of his names). The verse the Craig recites is about God attaching tendons and flesh to a skeleton which I took to meaning how Patoff might have come to be in physical form via the gold skeleton pieces (except not by God I guess?). Still curious how the RegUS PatOff name fits everything.

    • @simonmackay7214

Sorry also meant to add that during the more tense conversations between RegUS and the other characters you can hear the sound of the cracking glass from when he climbs the stairs. He's a humanoid robot, programmed and built specifically to extract performance out of companies at any cost. Human life, morality, public image, etc have no bearing on his actions. Wish the show wasn't so vague and pointless though.
His skeleton was made from gold and he was pieced together over time by the various doctors who commissioned the gold bones from the jeweler. He was only given a name because he had to have one, therefore, Registered In The US Patent Office. By about the third time I heard his name said out loud, I rolled my eyes when I realized what it was. Most of his dealings are with medical prosthetic companies, robotics, tech, etc. I think he's just perfecting himself over the years at these various companies, which is why he doesn't accept payment. He has no need for money, and that's his REAL payment.
Overall, I'm very disappointed with a show that had great potential.

If you interpret everything from this point of view, we can see anything bad he has done so far as good or at least beneficial . Also remember that he was right about the 316 level , we only need to try and try , because at end the child will succeed at passing it , while on the other hand grown ups that played it didn't win and broke their arms because of their madness and obsession and not because the game was making you suicidal, they just were behaving like game addicts .

However, it is plausible that Patoff is Jesus or God b/c in the author's view, maybe he doesn't view Jesus as being good morally or whatever. It's his way of saying "god creates but then destroys for the end to justify the means." (Not consistent with Kant's interpretation of Christianity)

The major part of the show that just didn’t make sense were people willing to die basically for nothing. They weren’t getting anything out of it. Their companies may have gone on, but they’re legacies really weren’t going to be anything. He said immortality, but they really weren’t getting immortality. Because their names would eventually fade. Plus some of the companies were doing really well, so why would the person want to die then? Ok... here goes... because i think the analysis is great, but in the end you connect the wrong figure to the things you note. From a biblical perspective speaking, it is said that the devil presents himself as a wannabe God. That was the reason he was kicked out of heaven in the first place. His pride. Adding to that, you see that later on in the bible the devil does everything to make people think he is God, or Jesus, but with false and misleading intent. That's why I think they use so much of the symbolism linked to Jesus. The devil intends to lure people as far away from God as can be. Maybe that's why he so clearly focuses on Patti. And adding to that, he kinda loses to Craig who seems to turn to Jesus and the church for help (which could have emphasised more i.m.o.).
To me this show is the realistic (or more biblical accurate) version of Lucifer. In this show you see the devil misleading subtly. He get's below your skin without you noticing. To really sell this message I think they should've given Jesus' power more attention than Craigs own perseverance. But that's my christian way of looking at this all...
    What do you think?

    • @UnleashTheGhouls
      @UnleashTheGhouls  Рік тому +1

That's a very probable direction! After all, the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. So perhaps by making 'Devil' seeming a little obvious in the show and drawing attention towards alternatives such as God and Jesus is fitting to that idea! - Connor

    He’s definitely the devil.
The qualities you describe that resemble Jesus is better aligned with him being the anti-Christ which many people will believe to be Jesus or of divine origin…but in fact is actually satan.
    1.) the devil is asexual
    2.) the drink turns red
    3.) stairs are red
4.) he promised immortality much like the devil did in the Bible.
5.) the images in the intro have a snake and maggots, also biblical indications of satan
6.) his desire to emulate Jesus is documented in the Bible.
It’s clear he’s the devil or possibly a powerful demon …
    Remaining questions :
    Why gold skeleton
Who was instructing doctors to commission the gold skeleton?

Patoff is not the devil. He is God or Jesus. His goal was to bring out the potential in the good (Elaine) and to reveal the demons of the non-believers (Craig).
People often say "What kind of God would allow..." when bad things happen. It is always said that God is love, but never guaranteed that God is kind.
This is an amazing show because it leaves itself open to so many interpretations while still being wildly entertaining. You rarely see creators making that bridge successful.
