Ken Jones... Pier Fishing?! Ken... I've been following your website for at least a decade, and I just want to thank you for all you do for the fishing community! You've expanded my view on ocean fishing in different areas of California, and given me a view of what others see around our beautiful California coast line. Keep up the great work!
Great knowledge.... my first pier fishing was on 1979 Shelter Island pier. I have fished on piers all over the country, but never IB. I will next month, Feb 2022. Thanks!!!
I remember fishing off the boats, the sea scout, the city of Imperial beach. As you said, I remember boarding the boats during rough seas, the captain would hook up a large chain and hit the throttle to keep the boat tight against the pier.
Awesome video. I grew up fishing that pier. Living in San Ysidro my neighbor would takes us there on his days. Lost of great memories. Have not been there in a looooong time.
This guy is good. He captures the fishing environment like an engineer. He explains very well. I wonder what's his work background. Sir, what's your work background and experience?
I've worked in the restaurant industry, owned a couple of businesses, worked at the Small Business Administration, and been a high school teacher (social science). President of United Pier and Shore Anglers for about 15 years and served on MANY different committees with the California Fish and Wildlife Department, NOAA, and various other entities. You live, you study, you do, and you learn. Hoping to give back a little of what I've learned.
The beach is closed 1/2 to 3/4 time of the year because of SEWAGE from Tijuana River. I would NEVER eat any fish caught off the pier for fear of feces..
Thats a simple answer someone on the coty council or similar org. Is either invested in the resturaunt, owns it, or is a friend of the owner! That should be a conflict of interest. Just start dogging a little and then go to a city meeting! If no one goes to complain they will assume they can get a way with it or that everyone is fine with it!
@@phatsnackthats why it was closed last time we went. We used to go late at night nd leave around 5am. Get there the other day grilled some meat on packed it to eat at the pier nd fish but was closed. IB sucks because of the sewage. Plenty of people still eat mackerel and fill up 5 gallon buckets
So she said safety issues so I wonder what kind of safety issues since it’s been open for a very long time without issues also the restaurant comes in there and now all of a sudden there’s some issues with safety I don’t know kind of strange what was gonna happen if somebody’s going to drop off the end of the pier because he got drunk because they bought a lot of beer at the restaurant time do use that against the restaurant when it happens
What is this country coming to? The federal government needs to sue Mexico over the sewage. The city of IB needs to allow fishing at the very end, and the government generally needs to stay out of our lives. Keep San Diego free. This isn’t Los Angeles or any other imploding area.
I don’t know maybe some fishermen should burn down the pier I mean they’re taking it away from them anyways so I don’t I mean it’s not like a suggestion anything but when you piss off a bunch of people maybe something like that happens
Liberal????? You mean CORPORATE non sense! Go to San Diego, or whichever city manages business permits on the pier and tell them to stop issuing the permits, but nothing will happen, you know why brother?? Cause those restaurants have more money to pay to they city than any money we recreational anglers could ever really muster up collectively to lobby the city into our favor. It's never a political problem, its always a class problem. Corporations have done a great job convincing us otherwise.
I was there a couple weeks ago and was wondering why no one was fishing the end of pier. That is so strange to not allow fishing there. Never saw that on any other pier. We ate at the restaurant and it was good. No one was eating at the end of the pier though.
Kind of stupid to surf near a pier as piers tend to attract sharks. The increased fish populations along and near their pier bring in many predator fish including large, feeding sharks. I would not want to be on a surf board close to any pier.

Fishing Crystal pier in San Diego and ran into Ken today! Great guy. Lots of great tips.

@ Hank Dudagross He is a wonderful man! He was one of my teachers in High School! Hi Mr. Jones!! ☺️
@@aimeedowney327 Thank you and what a great compliment you have bestowed upon your former teacher.
@@aimeedowney327 Thanks Aimee, didn't know you had seen the site.
Thanks gerado, that's a favorite pier. Unfortunately the fishing was slow that day.
I.b was always a favorite pier,I loved it as a 24hr pier and limited on lobster many seasons off that pier
So frustrating how they prioritize surfers and the restaurant over what the pier was actually built for, which is the anglers.
Awesome video! Appreciate the on-site and history!! Cheers
Excellent video! A good story told, with the vicissitudes of change over time.

Let’s go fishing.
Interesting history
Is the lobster hoop netting any good there?
CITY is allowing it because the restaurant paid them too that’s why money talks and the rest walks so fisherman get to walk it sucks

Regarding the restaurant takeover of the pier, I suggest that you follow the money.
Took starfish from the bottom of the pier home, they lived a few years and passed away. we put them on picture frames 😂
Is the end still closed for the restaurant? Or was that just a covid thing
Still reserved for the restaurant.
@@kenjones2860 lame.. covid ruined a lot of fishing piers.. oceanside still closes at 10pm and it used to be 24 hrs

They are trying to cancel fishing in California

called a fishing pier ! Not tourist attractions….

Piers are built with taxpayer money and maintained with taxpayer money, so they should be available to all taxpayers for fishing to enjoy.
I used to go in the 90s that peer is Over fish there's no fish no more

Safety issues? Lol, rigghhht
It's all for the money 💰💰 ,😢
Libral non sense! No fishing at the end of the pier.

Is that a private pier or city pier? Definitely not a state pier since all California so called public piers doesn't require a fishing license.
It's a public pier that does not require a license.
