    I'm currently teaching myself how to make pedals with no guidance aside from the internet. With my first pedal, i wired everything up before putting it into the enclosure, and then it was very difficult to fit all the wires into the box. I'm so glad you posted this video. It has really helped me understand what to do next time.

    Just to say thanks for the pair of video's, I love to tinker on my breadboard while I watch, in fact I'm doing it right now and have a four transistor,four clipping leds, red ,green, red ,blue, and an op amp - ba546 and three pots, one tone ,one volume and one fuzz/sustain. Its about my tenth,my first was from your bass fuzz video, but I have yet to mount one in a stompbox.Thanks again!

    thanks for making these videos. im working on a diode selector mod for a TS clone and its kicking my ass trying to figure out how to do 3 selections with a SPDT switch. somebody suggested doing the highest Vf diode and also the output on the common, and then i guess i do no diode or input on the outside, and lowest Vf diode on the other outside, all in parallel. so 1 is no diode, with the input bypassing lets say an LED, 2 is common with the LED diodes going to the output, and 3 is Ge diodes coming from the input.
    thaks for all your videos over a decade, you have the best content

    This video is exactly what I was looking for as I'm brand new to pedal build and am about to take on your 7min fuzz. Also looking to build a test box in the form of a 1590A enclosure so some good practice wiring in tight spots. Thanks so much for this!

    Nice one. Wish I'd had this video when I started out. A couple of things that I do that you might find interesting: I don't use wire strippers at this stage as I find the jerking sometimes breaks the wires that are connected - especially to the pots or board. I use a sharp craft knife to cut the insulation and then pull that off. To prevent those errant strands, I twist and tin my wires first, before putting them thru the lugs.

    Loved the video! But I was so curious as to how you mounted the PC board there? Double sided tape or ….? I’ve been using standoffs but would like other options. I am making a treble boost (my first treble boost) and decided to also go with terminal connections on my strip board so all connections to and from are not soldered but I can make a few other prototypes and just change out the ckt board. Fun!

    Hi I watched your video on repairing an old Color Sound Wah, and I enjoyed that. I have a question about such a Wah pedal. The old Color Sound Wah that I have works well, but the sweep is reverse to a normal Wah, and I would like to change it to a normal sweep which is more treble as pedal moves forward, instead of more bass when moved forward as this old Wah does. I suppose it could be called a reverse sweep wah. Can it be easily converted to a normal sweep Wah? Thanks in advance for any suggestions on solving this problem.

    Interesting video.
    I have an 1967 Vox Tone Bender where the 9 volt battery leads have come off. I am trying to figure out where to resolder them. (I have looked at many photos of the wiring and there were apparently many changes Vox made back then to the wiring), so it is difficult to know how that input jack is wired...
    The reason I am finding it difficult, is my unit does not have a TRS stereo input jack, but uses a jack more like they would use in a patch-bay with a contact that will be interrupted when a guitar jack is inserted. I can't find a photo of a Vox unit with this patch-bay style jack, so how I wire the input jack is elusive.. Nice video...

    Leaving the wires straight and not bending them over when you put them in the lugs, do you ever have the shielding/coating push through the lug when you heat it up? That crap ALWAYS happens to me. I use 24ga wire and I always have to bend it over. Any ideas?

    a noob question but what is the difference between a dc power jack that has 3 points to solder onto, as opposed to others that have 2?
    also, with the 3pdt, how do you tell which poles are which on it from 1 to 9? does it matter which way it is as long as the holes arent facing out to the sides?

  • @207D
    @207D 10 років тому

    Thank you so much for these videos! Two and half questions- You mentioned while soldering the foot switch the wire has to be touching the top of the lug? if its not but solder is still holding it in (it is in the center of the solder) will it still work? How do you solder the foot switch exactly? I've been just getting lucky till the hole gets filled but I've had some trouble with it. last question. Where can I get pre-tinned hook up wire like you are using. Thank you I hope to get some answers!

    Thanks again Arya. I think what helps my cause is that i usually use VERY SHORT wire to the board and jacks. Something with 4-5 gain stages would benefit from shielded wire though. And any less noise is good right? :)

  • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
    @DiyguitarpedalsAu  11 років тому +1

    Thanks Micheal! Depends what the power source is :) For the DC jack you wire it the start ground on the input jack. For the battery, the ring lug on the input jack. Look up the offboard wiring diagrams on madbean / tonepad. They show the wiring layed out nice and clearly for you.

  • @SXTransmission

    If you 'tin' the lugs first you can then just heat the wire/lug to connect it. Adding solder as necessary (not always). Oh yes, just salvaged a load of wire from a SCART-lead (as you mentioned in an earlier video, btw)

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  5 років тому

      thanks mate. Yeah you can hot glue it down (where possible) or use cardboard and tape etc. I dont recommend solely using tape as sharp cut leads can puncture the tape and make contact with the enclosure. Cheers.

      This is a problem with pots wired to pcbs and not mounted. With that said there usually isn't much room left over inside for the pcb to flap around anyway, it doesn't usually cause a problem.
