I worked security for 4 years and I’m a manager at a retailer now (Latino male) but all my workers are Black or Latino. I’m so glad to see you show love to this man. I just hope he turns around and continues that positive energy into his life. I work with kids who are locked up for behaviors and poor actions like this. I try everyday to help them see different routes in life than criminogenic behavior. It’s rough.
IMO we need harsher consequences for a lot of crimes, but we also need to have conversations and love to help change these behaviors. Putting people down, thinking poorly of them, and even hating them only pushes people to stay on these paths.

And we do see many in our country, the world, doing what a lot of people disapprove of, especially all the stealing going on. But this store owner made a decision to show compassion. Who then should disagree? or condemn the thief for being offered grace? who obviously needed it? I was actually surprised that he didn’t try to break out, or get violent. Instead, he was convinced to do the right thing; because the owner showed him a different side of humanity.
