- Skandagiri, also known as Kalavara Durga, is a hill fortress located near the town of Chikballapur in Karnataka, India. It is a popular trekking destination and is known for its beautiful sunrise views.
The trek to Skandagiri hilltop is a moderate-level trek and 70kms from Bangalore, usually takes around 4-5 hours to complete. The trek starts early in the morning, First slot at 4 AM and second slot at 8 AM, to reach the hilltop before sunrise. The trail passes through dense forests and rocky terrain, and trekkers need to be careful while ascending and descending the steep slopes. Early morning also night trekking to Skandagiri is super Trilling. This is one of the best trekking places around Bangalore.
The most challenging part of the trek is the last stretch, which involves a steep climb on a rocky terrain to reach the hilltop. But the breathtaking views of the sunrise from the top make it all worth it.
It is advisable to carry enough water and snacks for the trek, wear comfortable trekking shoes, and carry a torch or headlamp as the trail can be dark and slippery in some places.
Overall, Skandagiri trekking is a great experience for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The beautiful views, challenging terrain, and the sense of accomplishment after reaching the hilltop make it a memorable experience.

Bro, from Nov to Feb is always good to visit skandagiri, but trust me its not about the sun rise, it’s about the trekking experience. You will definitely enjoy it. And, to get sunrise view, we have to be little lucky. So, advice is to give a try. Happy trek bro 👍🏻

Yes, there is check post at the entry. Just inform that you need a guide. They will assist you. And, you can also go trek easily without guard as well. Happy trek 👍🏻

I dont think it is an issue, but once you get your tickets, u will find duty guard contact number. U can directly call them and they help you out.
how to get a guide for this trek???
Guide means, U will get forest guards accompanied. Its a FOC. (U have to book ur tickets) Or if u book ur journey through some agency they will provide guide for group of ppl.

I think its better to check weather condition on the day u r planning to Visit. While raining its not great idea as there is some steep places.

Hi, its not too difficult. But its not easy as well. It is an moderate trek. It u could able to walk for 10min straight without stopping. Then u can definitely trek. 👍🏻

I doubt you get public transport at very early morning. If you looking for morning trek. Check with some trekking organisers bro its easy and convenient. 😊

There won’t be any issues, but you have to trek alone and you might miss the sunrise.

Hi, yes it is completely safe to on weekdays. U will have very less crowd. Hence u mentioned family I recommend its not very easy to take kids or elder people. If jus couples definitely yes. Completely safe and u will get guards along with you. Happy trek.

Hi Kanchan, saying weather forecast is bit difficult for me ;) but ideal season for Skandagiri is Oct to Feb. dont keep hope for Sunrise, enjoy ur trekking. Thats is highlight in Skandagiri trek. If u get Sunrise its a bonus.
