@fic nonnie - Just to be clear, I enjoy them as well... but they feel completely out of place when compared to the rest of the season. The flashback arc in season three is especially irrelevant to the remaining episodes of that season. Ironically, the OVA from season two has more of an impact on season three.
@@Superneoking Honestly, adapting the light novel in season 2 and not 3 is probably because of Ango being in season 2, which would take away the whole twist of Ango being a double agent. Plus it is somewhat relevant to some parts of Dead Apple too. But yeah Fifteen is pretty much irrelevant to season 3.
Danny ruthlessly bullying Akutagawa when he is my favorite character is really funny, I'm all like oh gosh he actually develops into a well rounded character, meanwhile Danny's swinging, "CAN YOU JUST DIE ALREADY?" Also 87-88 if you know you know. Also, his reactions to Ranpo and Chuuya were even better than I expected, and the science fiction part had me dying
Dazai and Chuuya are brains and brawn. The reason they are so dangerous are that Dazai come up with horribly amazing plans and Chuuya is the destructive muscle that is hard to stop that carries them out. Dazai being the off switch is also a needed power move cause as Chuuya loses it more and more he can't determine friend from foe and will destroy everything in his way, which would include the city and then himself(especially if the Dead Apple movie and the 15 year story(if you know you know) is anything to go by an out of control Chuuya without Dazai is something no one wants to deal with). I'd say that's a power team
Even though they have few interactions in the anime ( but lots in the manga ) ranpoe is like one of the most popular bsd ships of all time and I love that
I love how much this show's grown on you. Seeing you genuinely enjoying these episodes, even the one that centered around your least favorite character, makes these videos so fun to watch.
Danny ignoring the easiest solve (of murderer) in the universe while actually comparing himself to Poe (talking to himself), then getting dragged (bc of Poe) is the best sequence of events ever.
Chuuya is smart but hes too human. If anything goes out of his plan hes just gonna say fck it and go all out just to save his subordinates. Thats why all the planning is on dazai because hes way more prepared for any scenarios than chuuya is and since he doesnt worry much about his subordinates he can focus on a quick switch up on his plans without such emotions distracting him. Dazai is capable without chuuya as well which goes without saying since hes an executive even before he met chuuya, i had no doubt he chose and trained his subordinates to his standard which makes it one of the best team in the mafia. Its just that chuuya has a strong ability and can lessen the death toll on his team, the lesser the death toll the less likely he'll have to train new ones which is also an advantage to him since he knows the one he already have are loyal to him.
IT’S HERE- I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE NEXT REACTION OF THIS I AM READY I AM PREPARED [battle cry] 4:23 You are correct Dazai IS a hurtful bitch sometimes 😀 8:37 POE AND KARL I LOVE THEM SO MUCH- 11:05 LMFAOO THAT FACE- “the fucking audacity who tf invited this bitch?” personified
Chuuya's the brawns, Dazai's the brain. No really, Dazai is ACTUALLY the brain. (Arguable the brain of the whole show). You'll see more of him as a ''suicidal clown-ish weirdo but actually a mastermind underneath his facade'' in the future.
Ranpo’s voice actor is amazing, his Japanese one is great too, you should totally check out his character song, it’s soo good. Also, Dazai is really smart actually, we don’t see it in the anime as much but in the light novels and manga it’s very clear lmao
So I can't say how happy I was at the into being boys, girls, and squirrels again lol best intro in my opinion. Also best reactions ever to anime. Always.
When the “prayer X” music hit in the outro I was so taken aback I LOVE THIS SONG !!! (I love to guess whatever song is playing in the back when Danny speaks its so much fun for no reason)
Every BSD reaction you upload always makes me so much happier, you have no idea. Also just a heads up, make sure you watch the OVA episode before the dead apple movie, cause that's where it fits the best, and also it will be referenced in season 3, so if you don't watch it beforehand you will get confused somewhat. And now to share one of the best theories that I have seen about this show: The raccoon sitting on Poe's shoulders name is Karl (i don't remember if that was said in ep 10 or not). In real life, Poe was depicted with cats, not raccoons. The inclusion of the raccoon I believe comes from the 2012? movie "the raven" which is about Poe, and includes a raccoon of the same name (i believe). However, in the movie, apparently the raccoon is meant to represent Karl Marx, as he and Poe had the equivalent of a reddit thread through books. Because Karl was based off a raccoon that represented Karl Marx, and Karl is spelled the same for both of them. It's theorized that Karl the raccoon is bsd version of Karl Marx - he is pretty smart. And it does somewhat work, due to the habit the show has of reversing dynamics between characters.. and season 3 (spoiler) stuff This theory is either the best or the stupidest theory, and I'm not sure how to feel about it. And finally, to answer your question about why Ranpo and Poe are rivals; Edogawa Ranpo is Edgar Allen Poe in Japanese pronunciation/hiragana. IRL Ranpo was a big fan of Poe, and based his pen name off of him. And since Asagiri (the author) loves to reverse dynamics, we get the rivalry you just saw (and also a pretty great ship...) And now I'm really excited for more of these reactions (and for when you get to season 4, cause some of the observations you made will be explained there)
FINALLY OMG- I was so hyped for this episode AAAAAA Also, from my understanding, the reason for the Ranpo vs Poe thing is because irl, Edogawa Ranpo was (if I recall correctly) a Fan of Edgar Allan Poe's work, in fact his name is sort of a pun being the Japanese form of Poe's name "Edoga (Edgar) Waran (Allan) Po (Poe)" Edogawa Ranpo. I think the reason behind the shows version of this relationship it's kinda to invert the roles, and make Poe a fan of Ranpo, instead of the real life Ranpo being a huge fan of Poe. (I'm sorry if I'm mistaken, I read this long long time ago when i was obsessed with Edogawa Ranpo after watching Ranpo kitan, lmao)
Yeah but the s4 skipped a lot of origines (the light novel), not in the actual facts that happens but more in the feelings of characters and intensity of those.
So I guessed the twist of the mystery as soon as Poe described the rules of his novel. Every hint after that just strengthened my case. I was internally screaming at Yosano to just give Ranpo her glasses for half the episode. The weird space station in the year 2050 setting is supposed to justify the magic flying axe and some wonky physics that might happen in the scenario. Also Poe made all of this up to be incredibly unfair and unsolvable, this is him trying to murder Ranpo first and write a good novel second. The mystery doesn't appeal to a broad audience because it was only ever meant to be read by one impossibely smart person. Fun tidbit I read about while strolling around the fandom: many relationships where one character admires another in this show usually mean it's the opposite irl. I already see people mentioning how Ranpo was a big Poe fan. For another example the real Dazai was a fan of Akutagawa. Chuuya was a fan of Kenji, but their characters don't interact often so Kenji just really likes Chuuya's hat in the show.
The reason ranpo’s “rival” is Poe, has to do with the fact that irl Ranpo looked up to Poe. His name isn’t actually edogawa ranpo, he made that his pen name cus it’s essentially the Japanese pronunciation of Edgar Allan Poe. And bsd makes a habit of giving characters like that some sort of relationship. Chuuya looked up to kenji, in the show Chuuya treats kenji like a younger brother essentially. Dazai looked up to Akitagawa, Akutagawa was his subordinate in the show, etc.
first, I love that atsushi and akutagawa are constantly screaming at each other second, I'm very excited for Danny's reaction to teenage dazai and chuuya finally, every time ranpo talks I just hear tamaki from OHSHC (also I'd like to note that va was accused of sexual harassment and assault by fans and other voice actors so they replaced him in dead apple & season 4)
To enjoy the series more and understand its characters, I would recommend learning more about the Japanese authors, both their works and their lives 🧎♀️ I love your videos !! 🫂
I was literally just rewatching season 2 and every few episodes I would check back and be like "has he seen it yet? has he posted another video of yet?" and let me tell you, I am very happy to see that this was todays video, and that you have seen it now (just my humble entirely unbiased oppinion as someone totally unbiased regarding chuuya and dazai) really hope you will continue with season 3 as well btw, can't wait for the reactions :')
I think it's implied that both the author and the anime character exist in the same time. So it's either all a coincedence or the characters for example Dazai is just a big fan of the author Dazai Osamu and his favorite book is No Longer Human so he decided to name his ability after it
Ranpo was a superfan of Poe and incredibly inspired by him. His name is a Japanification of EAP-- Edogawa Ranpo. The mystery angle on him is a bit weird because he's more known for horror-ish stories. Who know where the gravity idea came from with Chuuya, but he's a poet, and I guess you could give poets any kind of power.
Well, if you read the poems referenced by his backstory and ability, so many elements of his story come out of them. And the whole tainted sorrow concept aligns well with gravity weighing you down just as sorrow does. I actually really love his poems.
DANNY!! YOU DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Literally I've been waiting since you started the show for this episode. And I was laughing out loud. I won't lie, you are sort of missing some things, but it's ok your commentary is a highlight of your videos. I really hope you continue bc season 3 is the best so far for me. Thanks for the amazing reaction again danny!!
he's not wrong by saying dazai's only chuuya's off-switch, but the POETRY of dazai being as far as we know the ONLY off-switch chuuya's got- they're literally missing pieces and what-not. chuuya can't use the true extent of his gift without dazai. and despite everything he trusts dazai with his life everytime, and dazai's always got him. crying uncontrollably
Loved your reaction as always, it made my day ! I think a lot of people already did say that in the comments but bsd is more coherent in the manga and if you read the light novels. There's a lot of things bones skipped in the adaptation and I thinks that if you want to really understand the characters and some of the plot that seems to makes no sense you need to read the light novels and/or manga. Anyway thanks for your reactions that's always so cool to watch !
YES, E. A. POE!! Absolutely love him, despite him not playing a big role in the story. I also was wondering if you will be watching the movie after the second season?
Idk if you have read the manga, but he does play a big role, Asagiri just doesn’t give HIM a lot of presence in the story (and tries to not make him look too powerful, giving him silly dumb scenes, basically the comedy relief) 😭but his ability is VERY VERY!! important to the agency
@@Ranpoliker No actually! I am an anime only! I know we are getting some more Allan in season 4, so I am super excited. And yeah, I agree with him doing a bunch of shady shenanigans behind the scene. Especially in the Cannibalism arc when he handed his book to Ranpo (well, Carl did www)
Okay, first of all I have been waiting for you to react to this episode for WEEKS (Soukoku is definitely my favorite pair in this show, and I absolutely adore their dynamic), I’m just glad this was released today, I’ve been going through a lot of stress lately ever since school started, so this made my day :’) And the reason for the inconsistencies are mainly due to the anime trying to squeeze in everything from the manga so several, if not most points are rushed, but they do try to hint it out through dialogue and simple deduction (John was free after being beaten by Chuuya and Dazai since it was stated by Ango in the few previous episodes that the government has no rights to contain them, and it’s safe to assume that Chuuya had woken up before the guild arrived to retrieve their members and thus didn’t take him hostage, not like they could anyways…) so it’s very much possible to try and piece together the information to get a full overview of the story :P
The Reason for Edgar Allen Poe and Ranpo Edogawa Ranpo Edogawa was a HUGE fan of Edgar Allen Poe. He was devastated by the fact his death is an unsolved mystery. He was inspired by his works. He was (very normally) obsessed. So they flipped it in here. Edgar Allen Poe is obsessed with Ranpo. It’s like how the IRL Osamu Dazai was a HUGE fan of Akutagawa and became super depressed after his death. His life goal was getting the Akutagawa prize. Hence why BSD Akutagawa is obsessed about getting Dazais approval.
I so appreciated your emphasis on loving Ranpo's voice actor (at this point Vic Mignogna), because he truly WAS the best, and they replaced him later on in the series. I'm not sure if you are aware of the stupid drama that went down that GOT him blacklisted, but I felt like that was why you've mentioned it twice, and I agree so much. I loved Vic and I hope he'll get to come back like he deserves!
@@otakueve117 i had to google it, but he was found guilty and his appeal was dismissed. both rooster teeth and funimation conducted investigations and cut ties with him, so he couldn't continue with any roles he had with either company. theres a lot of split opinions on the ruling tho afaik

9:06 I think I have the answer to this! So in BSD a lot of relationships between the characters reflect the IRL authors but are flipped. For example, IRL Dazai was a big fan of IRL Aktugawa. That admiring relationship still exists between the show version of them though it's in reverse with Aktugawa being a big fan of Dazai. Now IRL Ranpo Edgowa was a big fan of Edgar Allen Poe and even his pen name reflects that. In the show, their relationship is reversed. (Though tbf he was also a fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and tried to translate his works to Japanese but I think he had a stronger connection to Poe)
I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thought this show was messy. I I watched season 2 awhile ago and only remembered fights that seem completely unrelated. I thought I had mentally disregarded most of the season and therefore either I was terrible at watching and processing information, or the show was terrible enough that I had genuinely forgotten anything but the awesome fights. but seeing you go through and comment has shown me that I actually remember the season in its entirety. Its just that messy. That's not to say the season was bad or that I didn't like it, its just that I could remember everything but also barely follow the story. Then again I could have just been distracted by the sudden onslaught of names I recognised but couldn't pinpoint due to my complete inability to know author names. Anyway, thanks for showing me that I didn't just forget 50% of the season.
YESS FINALLY. I have been so excited to see your reaction to E.A. Poe and Ranpo. And I am deeply satisfied with Toms editing and your roasts, boasts and burns. Edgar Allan Poe is Ranpo’s rival because the real life Ranpo was such a huge fan of Poe that he named his pen name after him, Edgar Allan Poe -> Edogawa Ranpo Also Ranpo’s whole thing with his glasses will make a whole lot more sense when you get to season 4
Oh my God season four episode one and two are shedding. A different light on this episode making it all make a lot more sense and emotionally driven as is the point with season four I feel like that’s all I’m gonna say.
rampo was a hardcore poe fanboy and the author loves rampo and did his fave a solid by making poe a fan of rampo in bsd. also this season has american authors as villains and doyle was british, though it would be great to see the man who hated holmes more than anything be once again remembered as the sherlock guy and have powers based around that
this is completely unrelated to the episode but I love that your outro music is a version of Prayer X, it's the song that introduced me to king gnu and I also love banana fish, so it's like an extra shot of happy at the end of your videos. (Yes, I know that happy and banana fish used in the same sentence is an oxymoron, but whatever, i liked the show and it makes me happy when other people know about it)

Danny's comments about the plot being messy rn is actually right AHAHAHA i had that impression too when i first watched bsd but still binged it bc i really enjoyed the show too despite that. plus, the characters are fun. most of the plot starts to really make sense and piece together after what happens in s3 and then it's all just completely mind-blowing from there.
Danny😂😂I thought i was the only one thinking that these mysteries don't make any sense and the show is a pure mess🤣 But the weird thing is that it's still great.. I think it's very amusing and surprising how you don't care about the main reason or "highlight" which is Dazai. Dazai being written in this two faced, funny/sucidal manic is one of the favourite parts of all of us in this show, and Danny is not even commenting on that. Or Chuuya and Dazais weird 'i hate you but i trust you" chemisty😂😂 Indeed very interesting to see how you're impressed with completly diffrent things than most of us. Update soon😘
You should also watch the Bungo Stray Dogs movie, Dead Apple. It's really good. Also a warning, Ranpo's voice actor changes after season 2. Vic Mignogna is my favorite English voice actor so it is upsetting he lost his role for Ranpo.
Dazai and chuuya have a very interesting relationship and this show does have a small issue with leaving things somewhere and then they appear later as if you missed an episode. Also 87-88 if you know you know. Also, his reactions to Ranpo and Chuuya were even better than I expected, and the science fiction part had me dying
Came here for the chapter 88 comments. Oh man when it gets animated, iykyk

I agree with you there
Ever since Karl was introduced I completely stopped caring about all other characters in this show, he is the best boy ever, I love him

All Hail the almighty Karl

DAZAI AND CHUUYA ARE THE DEFINITION OF BRAWN AND BRAIN AND ALSO chuuya needs dazai to do corruption etc
Yassss
Technically, Chuuya can do Corruption on his own, but he will die.
@@iantaakalla8180 ah true but
Chuuya is smart but hes too human.

Chuuya's the brawns, Dazai's the brain.
No really, Dazai is ACTUALLY the brain. (Arguable the brain of the whole show). You'll see more of him as a ''suicidal clown-ish weirdo but actually a mastermind underneath his facade'' in the future.
THE WAY MY MOUTH DROPPED IN HAPPINESS WHEN I SAW THIS NOTIFICATION🙌

Omg I noticed that too!! He also ued it in his previos video and I instantly noticed it!
Episode 10 hits different after this weeks episode 39. Ranpo’s entire personality makes sense after watching it.
I know what you mean
Every BSD reaction you upload always makes me so much happier, you have no idea.
Also just a heads up, make sure you watch the OVA episode before the dead apple movie, cause that's where it fits the best, and also it will be referenced in season 3, so if you don't watch it beforehand you will get confused somewhat.
And now to share one of the best theories that I have seen about this show:
The raccoon sitting on Poe's shoulders name is Karl (i don't remember if that was said in ep 10 or not).
And it does somewhat work, due to the habit the show has of reversing dynamics between characters.. and season 3 (spoiler) stuff
This theory is either the best or the stupidest theory, and I'm not sure how to feel about it.
And finally, to answer your question about why Ranpo and Poe are rivals; Edogawa Ranpo is Edgar Allen Poe in Japanese pronunciation/hiragana. IRL Ranpo was a big fan of Poe, and based his pen name off of him. And since Asagiri (the author) loves to reverse dynamics, we get the rivalry you just saw (and also a pretty great ship...)
And now I'm really excited for more of these reactions (and for when you get to season 4, cause some of the observations you made will be explained there)
FINALLY OMG- I was so hyped for this episode AAAAAA
Also, from my understanding, the reason for the Ranpo vs Poe thing is because irl, Edogawa Ranpo was (if I recall correctly) a Fan of Edgar Allan Poe's work, in fact his name is sort of a pun being the Japanese form of Poe's name "Edoga (Edgar) Waran (Allan) Po (Poe)" Edogawa Ranpo.
They inverted Dazai and Aku too. Dazai was a huge irl fan of Akutagawa.
Ranpo's everything makes so much more sense if you've read his backstory lite novel
I mean it's in the new season so he'll get there at some point
Yeah but the s4 skipped a lot of origines (the light novel), not in the actual facts that happens but more in the feelings of characters and intensity of those.
@@moonzeiw yup definitely
Dazai looked up to Akitagawa, Akutagawa was his subordinate in the show, etc.
ranpos lines mean so much more now and the unintended foreshadowing is amazing
I know!!!
Chuuya and Dazai also fight super well together and it’s so fluid and AMAZING
first, I love that atsushi and akutagawa are constantly screaming at each other
second, I'm very excited for Danny's reaction to teenage dazai and chuuya
finally, every time ranpo talks I just hear tamaki from OHSHC (also I'd like to note that va was accused of sexual harassment and assault by fans and other voice actors so they replaced him in dead apple & season 4)
Teenage Dazai and Chuuya is gonna be great for him to see
Wait...I thought he was canceled for not signing the FMA fanart?!

(just my humble entirely unbiased oppinion as someone totally unbiased regarding chuuya and dazai)
really hope you will continue with season 3 as well btw, can't wait for the reactions :')
Danny forever referring to Steinbeck as grapes of wrath boy 😅
I think it's implied that both the author and the anime character exist in the same time. So it's either all a coincedence or the characters for example Dazai is just a big fan of the author Dazai Osamu and his favorite book is No Longer Human so he decided to name his ability after it
11:35
I'm crying! 🤣
This was such a hilarious juxtaposition.
I know!!!
I genuinely love how an actual eldritch god is a character with barely 10 minutes of screentime in the entire show
Damn Danny's grown so much that he has bots! I'm proud
‘You really think he saw Chuuya turn just a little red” um- about that. yeah, bones fucked that one up.

I love Edgar Allan Poe, both the author and the character.
he's not wrong by saying dazai's only chuuya's off-switch, but the POETRY of dazai being as far as we know the ONLY off-switch chuuya's got-
they're literally missing pieces and what-not. chuuya can't use the true extent of his gift without dazai. and despite everything he trusts dazai with his life everytime, and dazai's always got him. crying uncontrollably
The title was a whole jump scare LMAO
Loved your reaction as always, it made my day !
I think a lot of people already did say that in the comments but bsd is more coherent in the manga and if you read the light novels. There's a lot of things bones skipped in the adaptation and I thinks that if you want to really understand the characters and some of the plot that seems to makes no sense you need to read the light novels and/or manga.
Anyway thanks for your reactions that's always so cool to watch !
You'll understand about Rampo's glasses in season four! ^^
thank you so much for everything danny, today I had an awful day and your videos is the only thing giving me comfort ❤️❤️❤️
So sorry to hear you had a rough day :( i’m glad my video made you laugh!!
YES, E. A.
Especially in the Cannibalism arc when he handed his book to Ranpo (well, Carl did www)
dazai does the plans, chuuya executes them. and usually they don’t even have to communicate in order to achieve victory

YOU JUST MADE MY DAY. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REACTION OMG
Okay, first of all I have been waiting for you to react to this episode for WEEKS (Soukoku is definitely my favorite pair in this show, and I absolutely adore their dynamic), I’m just glad this was released today, I’ve been going through a lot of stress lately ever since school started, so this made my day :’)
And the reason for the inconsistencies are mainly due to the anime trying to squeeze in everything from the manga so several, if not most points are rushed, but they do try to hint it out through dialogue and simple deduction (John was free after being beaten by Chuuya and Dazai since it was stated by Ango in the few previous episodes that the government has no rights to contain them, and it’s safe to assume that Chuuya had woken up before the guild arrived to retrieve their members and thus didn’t take him hostage, not like they could anyways…) so it’s very much possible to try and piece together the information to get a full overview of the story :P
Saw the title of the video and immediately knew what Danny's reaction was gonna be
The Reason for Edgar Allen Poe and Ranpo Edogawa
Ranpo Edogawa was a HUGE fan of Edgar Allen Poe.

@@bloodysparkles5372 the court case (as far as I know) was a defamation suit against the people who were accusing him since everybody took their word for it and canceled his appearances at cons and such. Also I totally agree about how it feels "weirdly disjointed" I felt like I missed something and kept looking back wondering if something was missed. It is weird. It is interesting though and lol the title of the video 🤣💀
Survive Said The Prophet Banana Fish YOU THINK I WOULDN’T NOTICE THAT SONG DANNY!?!? I CAUGHT YOU!!!! Love you for this seriously 😤🥰💖
Their combo is everything... Dazai's brainy brains and Chuuya's power :^

Oh my God season four episode one and two are shedding. A different light on this episode making it all make a lot more sense and emotionally driven as is the point with season four I feel like that’s all I’m gonna say.
I know what you mean
rampo was a hardcore poe fanboy and the author loves rampo and did his fave a solid by making poe a fan of rampo in bsd. also this season has american authors as villains and doyle was british, though it would be great to see the man who hated holmes more than anything be once again remembered as the sherlock guy and have powers based around that
this is completely unrelated to the episode but I love that your outro music is a version of Prayer X, it's the song that introduced me to king gnu and I also love banana fish, so it's like an extra shot of happy at the end of your videos.

Or Chuuya and Dazais weird 'i hate you but i trust you" chemisty😂😂
Indeed very interesting to see how you're impressed with completly diffrent things than most of us.
Me and my sister have said that this show has an amnesia effect. It feels like I haven't seen everything yet I know for a fact that I've seen it all twice. It's like there is always something missing. Also another great reaction ✨
