Simple dualsports are way better offroad way better and adventure bikes are better for long distance street riding but to me dual sports are definitely better because you can take a dual sport on a long trip and it will make it but the adventure bike is not capable of much more than dirt road riding a dualsport can do it at all
And the only way you canb enjoy the ride is to choose the right bike for the right road condition. I think this is new era motorcycling problem, when motorcycling becomes more about choosing and purchasing 'the right gear' than actually riding. I am glad that we have so much to choose from, but this also makes me kind of sad. :)
I can see that you went from a Wr250r to a T7. I am actually about to go the opposite direction. I LOVE my T7, but I find myself crashing it and getting in dangerous situations very often because of its weight. Just yesterday I spent six hours digging my bike out of mud. Wish I could keep both :)
i already made the change from t7 to wr250. while the videos of bouno and pol are amazing to watch, when loaded they are not far off an unloaded KTM1200 (after crash protection and bash plates and extra fuel, luggage) and quite top heavy. A fun bike, but you got to pick your route, because if to challenging, not very fun!!!
@@seastate1277 Since I made this comment I’ve sold my T7 and bought a DRZ. What a difference riding offroad! I’ve also bought a 701 enduro and I’m very happy with both bikes.
I recently bought T7. As I changed it from streetbike, I am like a happy and very surprised kid. Tenere carries me more comfortable on road and what can it do offroad, omg, I just need to learn handling it. I couldn't make any better decision going for t7 for the type of riding I want to do. Btw glad I found your channel, +1 sub.
My issue is that many trails near me are a fairly significant distance on freeways, and I don't have a vehicle to tow a dual sport. I need to be able to comfortably ride to and then ride on my desired trail
You are a bad man. I bought a GS1250 because I thought it was a dualsport based on your videos. (only kidding, bought a T7 because it is a dualsport and an adventure bike)
Both the GS 1250 and the T7 are adventure bikes IMHO Too heavy Give us bikes we had in the 80s pls!! TT 350 at 114kg, 30HP, 2 seaters, good suspensions and engine XR 400 / XR 600 More recent TT 250 / WR 250 Or DRZ 400..
@@GallicGarlic All offroad bikes, brutal to ride any distance on road. I had an XR600, and a DR350, and a CR250 , so thanks, I'll stick with my opinion.
Do you want a tractor of a dirtbike that can be made bearable on-road or a fat road bike that can handle mild off-road? I prefer to own a Dual Sport to actually have fun off-road and a road bike for highway trips. ADV = worse at both.
I'd definitely say buy a dual sport for off roading. But honestly I feel like advs at this point are just dirt bike versions of sport tourers. They can cruise highway and still do some off road, but a little 250 will handle way more stuff off road
Old mate on the T7 is obviously a top class rider as I haven’t seen too many guys with them hang them sideways like that , I’m of the opinion that an enduro bike modified for ADV is my best option as I like to be sideways and jump and hit rough trails at speed , I’ve got a nice NX 300 Lexus for long road miles 😂 #itsallaboutdirt
I got a dirt bike when did some single track was fire roads in between them and I loved it and I was like I need a dual sport but I really wish you could get two stroke in America like a CRM250 2023 lol
Road or no road. I much prefer a big ADV bike on long road, highway and off-road trips with 80/20 or 50/50 rubber depending on the terrain. I prefer Dual sport with off road rubber for close to home trails and I don’t like them on highways.
Why can’t there be just one?? Vstrom is closest!! Great video and informative although, I’m just as lost As before. Well maybe not, I want an adventure bike that is as you stated 70 on and 30 off road. But it needs to have the ass of a tracer 900 GT at least. The storage on my 650 strom with my sw motech panniers is unmatched but heavy and acceptable for week long camping trips. I am open to advice here.
Even though it's not as powerful, the new KLR650 is decent on road and still excellent off road with a huge rear carrying capacity. Comes fully decked out for adventure. Or you can look at a tenere 700 and modify it with rear racks and adventure mounts.
its funny you can have the most "adventures" on a dual sport....all these ppl spending thousands more for a bigger bike that limits the adventures you can have.....had plenty of great adventures on my klx300
Great video, but you're so far off base about the KLR it's not even funny. That had to be the worst off-road-oriented bike I have ever had the misfortune of owning. The suspension travel is definitely not long travel, and the ground clearance is barely acceptable. On my 2023 KLR even with fully upgraded suspension it was still a sore disappointment even on a gravel road. Way too easy to bottom the forks out on just a pothole. That being said I went extremely the other direction with an XR650R. Obviously no complaints about suspension there and definitely more power with close to half the weight. But you're definitely on point with the tenere. I'm leaning heavily toward a tenere for my second bike. It would be better for two up, better for long rides, yet still sports proper off-road suspension and ground clearance. It is substantially heavier than my XR650R but far better road manners. I actually sold my 2023 KLR and replaced it with a 2002 XR650R. And I am absolutely happy with that decision. To anyone that watches your video hopefully they see this comment if they're looking to buy there first off-road oriented bike. Just avoid the KLR completely and most of Kawasaki's lineup. The DR650 is substantially better at everything than the KLR 650. And the XR650L is better than the both of them. If you don't mind a Kickstart, seek out the XR650R as nothing comes close to it. If you want something much more comfortable on the road that has close to dual sport suspension, Tenere. And yes this is me speaking from actually having seat time on all of these machines.
Adventure bike = guys who dress up like astronauts and ride on pavement only, have a monthly payment for their financed bike.... Dual Sport = guys who actually ride off road trails and paid cash for their bike.
1:44. Oopsy!!!! Long story short: adventure bikes are garbage! Here is why: 1. Tires: Adventure assumes you will ride on dirt. But, you must ride on pavement to get to dirt. This creates an unsolvable problem. Here is why: -As you start to go 60/40, 70/30, 80/20 for dirt, your tires get shredded fast and your ride is insanely uncomfortable on chunky tires. If you go the opposite for road, you can't ride dirt quickly or easily because your tires are slick with no chunks. Only solution: take a pair and change when you get to dirt. Yes...not practical or fun. 2. Since they are street legal, they are heavy 3. Since they are meant for long trips, the fuel tanks are enormous 4. Since they are street legal, they have a high clearance for dirt, which makes them super wobbly and uncomfortable on the road Solution: Get an sport touring (Yamaha Tracer etc) for beautiful scenic trips and an Enduro/Dual Sport for dirt. If you are a couple and want the best of both, well...may your back and wallet RIP with a adventure. I've owned the 1250GS, Africa Twin, KLR650...hated all of them. If you hit rocky terrain on an adventure, good luck. You aren't lifting it, towing it or pushing it. No way!
You always make videos on questions in my mind, much appreciated.....

No
Adventure bikes are really touring bikes with ground clearance. Dual Sport bikes can actually be taken off road and actually go on adventures.
i dont think engine size matters
the sinnis terrain is a 125 adventure bike for example
