The house feels like babies first base in a way, by that I mean the nonsensical nature and strange shapes feel like the bases we all built when we were kids. Cramped hallways and strange overhangs. Bland block pallets and dark rooms. It’s kind of a perfect representation since a lot of us used to build our bases to protect from imagined threats rather then known ones

Hey, The Librarian, the real story of the Winchester house is much more mundane. Putting it simply Sarah Winchester was just a really rich woman who kept to herself and gave back to her community by hiring local contractors seasonally to add a bunch of regular rooms to her house.
It was an outlet for her grief. Something to put her mind to and move on from three very devastating losses that happened really quickly. She kept going for decades putting in apartments or balconies or bathrooms, all with purpose, until the 1906 earthquake hit and a lot of the house and the additions were destroyed. By that time she was an old woman and much of her life's work had been undone. She decided to basically fill in the holes and stich up the houses gaping wounds. All the odd additions and dangerous angles all once had a purpose. They led to rooms, hallways, terraces, ect. that no longer exist. It was just another loss in a life so full of tragedy.
I love the myth. It's so intriguing and it inspires so much wonder, yet at the same time the real story is just as inspiring and all the same very sad. Great video as always!

The house/mansion reminds me of the kind of dreams where you explore your house, but it’s not exactly your house, it’s twisted, has more rooms than usual, shadow people looking on from the outside, every time you enter and leave certain areas of house the layout of the house changes.
Nothing makes sense and everything is subject to change and decay.

You evoked a childhood fear of mine when theorizing seeing a Childs face inbetween the railing gaps.
I slept on the top bunk over my brother in elementary school. The bunk had a railing gap that faced the Door to our room. The gap was at exactly eye height for people of all size, if they were to approach from the doorway.
At nights i could not dare to sleep facing the gap. I countered this by blocking the railing gap with an ikea shark plush (older model than the classic blahaj, more gray and rigid). Still, the gaps existance unsettled me. The shark was my life line, somenights i even reinforced the blockade with plushes and blanket corners.
As i grew older i realized that in my childhood i feared eyes looking at me more, violently, than anything else. Scopophobic tendencies I wonder.

Rooted dirt is a vanilla block.
It naturally generates in large clumps that indicate an azalea tree somewhere above, and can also be created by any azalea bush growing into a full tree.
You can use a hoe to extract the roots from it and turn it into normal dirt, or a shovel to turn it into a path block without getting anything from it. You can also bonemeal a block of rooted dirt to cause roots to grow on its underside if there's air directly under. It otherwise behaves just like dirt except grass and mycelium can't spread to it.
Both the block and the roots you can make from it are entirely decorative.

Mushroom cultivation is quite easy. Its just a bit inefficent. You only need to place them in a dark room with a flour out of stone, dirt or something else they can grow on. If you place a mushroom, they will spread to the neigbouring blocks, but won't do so if there are already to many mushrooms around them. I would recomend to leave, at least, 4 blocks between every mushroom and harvest them quite frequently. Also, even it isn't the most useful farm, and it is way more efficent to make and harvest big mushrooms, it could be a fun feature for abandoned rooms. If one isn't afraid of a bit of mold. ^^

*Post-video second comment!* This is very cool and atmospheric. Love that. I think it would be cool if you added a furniture mod or two just for the sake of decoration, though. After all, if you're going to have all these rooms, then you ought to have some things to put in them. And it will help with making each room distinctive / have more interesting shapes for you to be confused by in the darkness.
Other than that, I think that "Sanity: Descent Into Madness" would be a great mod to either include in this series, or put into a video on its own...albeit if you do use it in this series, I would adjust the configuration to be more forgiving, as well as disabling the HUD and visual indicator of sanity loss, so that you don't go insane too quickly, but have to rely on your best guesses as to just how bad it's getting.

    I absolutely love thisconcept!
As someone who has always loved playing minecraft as a builder rather than a fighter or explorer... this challenge really speaks to me.
On a semi related note... there's a horror game I'd love to suggest to you that has a similar vibe to the themes you describe, being the paranoid old man with a candle late at night investigating his own house.
It's called Knock Knock, a game by Ice Pick Lodge where you play as a man with chronic insomnia and Somnambulism (sleep walking) who is constantly trying to maintain his house that is getting larger and more occupied by "guests" as the game goes on. The man you play as has a very "scientific" mind, attempting to rationalize what's going on and distill everything into a "pattern" or a "game" he must follow to logically dispell the horrors and "patch up the cracks" of this continuously growing house.
The story gets extremely dense and convoluted with many threads and details, with multiple endings depending on not what you do inside the house but actually what you do outside it.
I'm not gonna describe any more of the gameplay or story, because it truly is a gem of psychological horror gameplay and story telling that not enough people have played or talked about.
Markiplier did a playthrough of it back in 2013, but aside from that it's never really gotten any attention, but I think you would absolutely love it given its premise is almost exactly what you describe here.
But yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to watching the rest of this minecraft series. Thank you for the great content you make Librarian!

Finally having the time to catch up on this series and it’s so nice to see you back in a pack like this again. That you took time to figure what you wanted to do! That should always be the way.
The vibes are cozy, immaculate and spooky!
And that baby zombie definitely feels like the spirit of someone who passed away in that forest. Poor thing. 😭
Though I am SO curious about that door mod! I need that for my spooky adventures.
