only possible to use leg drive when your knees are naturally far below the bench as @1:58 , if your lower leg is extremely long and you try this you will injure yourself
Lol! If his elbows were to be perpendicular to his shoulders, he would have to narrow his grip, thus increasing the range of motion. Kinda like what Marc rippetoe teaches.
I would blow my shoulders out benching with my grip that wide. The more weight the more stress on the shoulder joints. My thumbs touch the smooth. 585lbs raw and I would need two new rotator cuffs. Feel free to give me crap, but 8 World Records in the last 3 years in raw Benching, I think I do know a little. Just saying.
Can you elaborate? The thing is, I've read some Russian sources on the topic and the advice was "to use more triceps then the chest, so you can put out additional force by your hands and save your shoulders". The books were about achieving 150 and 200 kg checkpoints, btw. Your comment is somehow reminiscent for me.
@@maxpreobrazhensky7124 if you look at almost everyone who benches 500 600 700 pounds they have a grip similar to mine. The shoulders really cannot take that much pressure. Narrower grip moves the weight into the triceps and back, away from the shoulders. I partially tore a rotator when I listened to someone who told me I should have a wider grip. I tried it and RIP went the rotator. I rehabbed it using my slingshot and strengthening the muscles around it but if you have ever used a slingshot / bench daddy they are designed to pull your elbows in and also the width or your grip. Cruise through youtube and look at some of the bigger benchers where their hands are. My shoulders are pretty wide, my chest is 5 feet around almost, and my grip is thumbs just barely touch the smooth.
@@kolecarterbenches Not that I want to say your grip isn't optimal for you, but two lifters that sprung to mind, super heavy weight world record holder Kiril Sarychev and Larry Weels, both bench press with (I'd say index or middle) fingers on the rings, so about as wide as Taylor does here. It's true that the bigger lifters do have quite some range of motion, even with really heavy weights because they place their hands relatively narrow on the bar compared to their body size, esp. shoulder width. I only really see the very light lifters bench with super wide grip and barely any RoM.
@@hititwithit Take a look at Spoto, Strickland, Maddox, Henderson, Hoonstra, and most of the BIG benchers. When you talk about Wheels and Kiril. THey are BIG guys with WIDE shoulders. Taylor is a fraction of their size. Majority of the BIG benchers have a narrower grip. There are exceptions, but comparative to size their grip is not that wide. A lot of it depends also on the type of bencher you are. Tricep benchers have a narrow grip. Lets stand Taylor up in front of Kiril. Both have the same width grip, but there is a HUGE difference in size of the body frame. Just saying.
Honest question. I've noticed in almost any bench video I see, you're in the comments telling everyone home much you bench. Why is that? I'm not trying to hate on you, I'm genuinely curious.
Everyone even if you don’t powerlift should lift with a natural upper back arch that can be created with the scapula retraction. That will make the lift stronger, more stable and a lot safer.
My biggest disappointment with this video is you let Taylor wear a hat. Best hair in powerlifting fight me.
Can confirm, he does have the best flow in the game. - Jake
He looks younger like that though.
Fuck his beautiful head of hair, my shit thinned out a long time ago.
Freaking awesome video I've been looking for this for the last week
Micheal seays hair cooler
Breathing is legit one of the most important things that people forget to use
3 times IPF champion and GOAT, what a legend !
changes my set up to this and made all yhe difference. Instantly will make your max go up by 10lbs
Taylor needs to upload some vids on his channel, would be good to see some of the training he uploads on instagram
getting bicep gainz by watching this bench guide
For me the hardest part of the bench is retracting the scalper and keeping my lats braced.
I to dislike retracting my scalper.
Excelent tips from a pro, thank you guys 👍
Taylor is a monster

Holy shit Taylor has amazing leverages for benching.
Lol. Not really. Look at jon cayco.

Hello there! Love your Vids. Keep up the good work
This immediately added 40lbs to my bench thanks 👍🏽
Great explanation !
hmmm, i different set up tutorial an different key points. im gonna put this into play tomorrow. awesome tips
This guy is a beast :D
You make America Great Again Taylor!
Great video
How many times a week do you do bench press???
Wow fk how did u get him there haha
Currently doin pinky slightly within the rings. Any wider and it hurts my joints. Any opinions?
Don't go wider?
Idk i have to see what your doing wrong but if u do close grip bench do alot of tricep volume
4:20 what shoes are this?
Adidas Adipower - Jake
great post ! 1 thing though, how tall is he 5 foot something ? i am 6 foot 5 and my bench press sucks.
Got a pb of 95kg and then i injured my shoulders and chest 2 weeks later so close to 100kg
Why breath on the way up though? Why not hold it until the the lockout? Please explain. Thanks,
I couldnt tell you the science but i know you should be exhaling on the upward lift of the deadlift and squat so idk why itd be different for bench
@@ElijahZaporteza You shouldnt exhale on squats and deadlft.
The upward airflow helps lift the bar 👍🏼 can’t believe you couldn’t figure this out.
very good thank you
Step 1 is rack height but he doesn't explain the step at all. So how do I determine the proper rack height?
Low enough you dont have to “unretract” your scapulas, high enough where the ROM to unrack is just a tiny bit more than enough to get it off
only possible to use leg drive when your knees are naturally far below the bench as @1:58 , if your lower leg is extremely long and you try this you will injure yourself
Excellent feeds. Something new.
how does he train arms? those are some big guns
Deadlift for sure
when you deadlift and bench press heavy weight, your arms have no choice but to grow
Lol, people who think deadlifts and squats grow biceps.
how to avoid bar dropped?
Thank u
Honestly I just want a tutorial on how to do your hair like how the fuck do you get such a big soft looking yet immovable diagonal side part
4:19 which shoe model is Taylor wearing?
Those are the Adidas Adipowers! We've done a review on them if you want to check it, Google: BarBend + Adipower Review - Jake

Wonder if he knows what perpendicular means.

@@garrycharmer He said the elbow and wrist should be perpendicular to the bar.
😂 he’s almost at 45 degrees and is calling it perpendicular. Ah no.

wtf is a kg.
kg = kilogram = about 2.2 pounds
That is not bench press. That is "decline" bench press. It is also funny that you wear stiff heel shoes, but put your feet on a soft bench press.
Umm no it’s not. Do you know what decline is? It’s when the bench is in a decline rather that the flat bench in this video.
Is it really an accomplishment when you‘re this tall?
