Therefore, I believe that the umpires are correct in this circumstance. If I'm actually right or not is a mystery to me.

none of that language is in the rule book. His foot is in the box (part of his foot is touching the box while not touching homeplate) and he is hit by the pitch. How could that possibly not be a HBP? If you dont like that rule its one thing but thats what the rulebook says and the ump did not abide by that.

Any ump can call a player out of position, and it's not uncommon for umps to ask other umps if they saw it when they know they missed a call. Either way not worth getting tossed, but those umps did really suck for balls and strikes so he was already heated I suppose.
