I will say my Da read with me as did my Ma, but it was really the connection with my Da especially as he was away with work often and being the only girl we had to work at finding the bond. When I was 6 he started reading many books across the scope with me. Even if I was sitting on the kitchen counter and hanging out, then we’d talk about the chapter. Many different things like that are my favorite memories that stick out in my memory. It also really helped encourage my voracious lifelong reading habit. We still will Amazon books to eachother for a surprise.

Ya know. I walked around not liking people for so long and I was always blaming society for it. Like “oh people are stupid, cruel etc now. Screw people.” Then I heard this podcast opening and I went “Huh, damn, I am broken!” I need to get back to being happy and just enjoy people again.
Your story made me really happy. I have been there. I was working in the night club scene and started to think all ppl are scum. I quit and started perusing nursing while working retail. I learned to be happy again and love working with the public.

You're not alone. I was raised by antisocial parents who put isolation on a pedestal. Whenever we moved, all my dad wanted was to get into a house with more and more distance between him and neighboring homes. He calls the greatest cities in the world "shitholes": NYC, Berlin, Chicago, London, Paris, Venice, etc... My mother's go-to conversation starter was to shit on people around us. Eating out at a restaurant was miserable because my parents wasted the whole outing by bitching about the server, the host, the line, having to wait because of the crowd, the cooks, the annoying table next to us, etc.
It's really a sickness of the mind to project and hate people in general. We need people, we're here for people, and if you believe all people suck, you're the one who sucks. But, it's curable and thank god for that.

My husband and i had our kids before we got married. I feel the same way Chris does. I didn't think it was necessary because we already had a beautiful life together. Nothing was going to change after we got married. It was important to my husband that we got married. So I said I do. We wanted a beautiful marriage, not a wedding. We decided to go to Jamaica with our children and who ever could come great if not that's fine. We had small wedding with our son and daughter 5 and 18 months as our best man and Maid of Honor. We wanted a vacation and an experience and the wedding just something we did while there. It was everything we could have asked for. Our kids and family still talk about how amazing Jamaica was! We have been together 8 years, married for 6 months now. Nothing changed in our lives.

Set an alarm every day for when you know you have a few minutes to do the pushups. Then you have to actually make a choice to skip it, and that internal shame is a powerful motivator xD

Without knowing the stoicism stuff I had started giving my belongings away without question. Kid saw my basketball shoes and I asked his size and it fit so I gave it to him and went home in socks. I’ll probably never see that kid again. This is what I want to instill in people that if u have something to give give it. It’s not gonna kill ya in fact it make u feel much better and inspire others to do the same.

Man what you guys were saying about NY is how I feel about Vancouver. Sure it has its problems like insane rent and living prices. The reality though is people come here from all around the world and never wanna leave. It's consistently rated one of the top cities to live in, it's one of the only places in the world where you could be snowboarding at a world famous mountain like Whistler, then in less than two hours be walking on a beach. Yet all I see is people in this city complain about everything. It's insane to me, why would anyone ever choose to live somewhere they hate? Canada is a massive country, and people could choose to live anywhere..... Although as I get older I'm realizing people just like to complain, it's like an addiction. For example people here spend 4-6 months a year complaining about rain, then the moment it's nice they complain that it's too hot.

I agree but he never really had his eyes closed on Covid. For a min he was preaching to get vaxxed if you are older or immuno compromised but he always supported people choosing to not get it and once the virus was contained he has constantly said that they need to start more testing for the vaccines to see if it is worth the risk or not for healthier groups. Even tho he caught a really bad case of Covid he still knows not everyone needs to risk a rushed vaccine
He publicly supported sending American kids to school at the peak of the Covid pandemic! Stating only a low percentage of the children would die....Disgusting
