@@mikern2001 Haydn is one of the most under-rated of the great composers (not a particularly deep or original insight on my part). This work is perfect example; incredible music. Sviatislav Richter said that the Haydn piano sonatas were superior to Mozart's.
@@donaldallen1771 That's not really saying much. The piano sonatas are probably among the lowest regarded of Mozart's works along with the early symphonies.
Big props to the audio tech. Best mics to use, and you put them in the right place exactly. Very old fashioned nowadays to actually KNOW what you’re doing. Congratulations.
This masterwork is performed here with the required acumen. The playing by the quartet is musically convincing and technically brilliant. All the (intellectual) drama, lyricism and humor is well captured. Most enjoyable!
One of the best Haydn performances I have heard. The technique, interpretation, and sound were all excellent. The synchronisation in the fast unison passages was a joy to hear.
Clean, fresh and lively...exactly the qualities this piece most needs. ..more from this group please. Thanks to Curtis Institute of Music for offering us a gem.
One of the later H. quartets still unknown to me - how wonderful to experience for the first time this delightful, rich and perfectly calculated musical creation so exquisitely played!
I fully concur with the adulatory comments above regarding the performance. I would also mention it's really beautifullty recorded. If it's just those two little overheads, someone knows a lot about placement.
@@PapierStein Year of Wonder: Classical Music to Enjoy Day by Day. Apparently it is a book which gives you a recommendation for a piece of classical music to enjoy every day for one year. I quote " From Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Puccini to George Gershwin, Clara Schumann, Philip Glass, Duke Ellington, and many remarkable yet often-overlooked voices, Burton-Hill takes us on a dazzling journey through our most treasured musical landscape." Bit of a surprise to see Duke Ellington in there, TBH.
Wunderschön, Balsam für die Seele! Vielen herzlichen Dank 👍 🤗 🌻
It has always amazed me how compositions for just 4 musicians can contain so much musical complexity and tonal variety.
Especially considering he essentially invented the genre.
