By the way, of course this film is a little out there, but I wanted to make the audience work for it instead of being spoon fed the answers. Thanks for all the support though!
The story of a man slipping into psychosis. He eventually realized that the hunter he kept seeing out there and the man at the end pointing the rifle at him were hallucinations of himself! driving him completely insane. The first call to his wife was legit but later in his madness he unplugged the phone and subsequent calls to his distressed wife were also hallucinations in his deranged mind. The best explanation I could come up with! What did I miss?
I got time paradoxes, personally. And the calls to the lodge from his distressed wife, where she didn't seem to hear him pick up, were bc he was already dead (in the ending's particularly horrible way, no less) & she was reaching out in her grief to their last point of contact, for a touchstone.
The first obvious indication that he isn't thinking clearly is when he gets a "phone off the hook" beeping tone for a second time while calling his wife. The appropriate reaction would be one of concern for his wife, and to call 911, and then bolt out the door and drive home like a bat outta hell. Instead, he climbs back into his tree with rifle in hand and continues his descent into insanity. (sorry about the spoiler if you've looked at the comments before watching the film). I liked the aerial shots in this.
What a wonderful look at two things , one what it's like to be the hunter two what it feels like to be the hunted . Such a fine insight into the journey into madness & the happy ending was a nice touch with just enough hint of either the supernatural & cosmic symbolism to keep us guessing. Kinda glad he finally got what he came for & for a change it got it came for as well . Great little short & awesome cinematography, vey well done. Shows just that fine line of scaring us without saying much dialog can be a powerful tool . Great job to the filmmakers writer & this poor fellow .
I really enjoyed the pace and style of this very suspenseful short film. The scenic backdrop and palette provide atmosphere and the forest is foreboding, yet elegant.
Idk what I’ve enjoyed more: the film itself, or reading how differently a couple of others have interpreted it. I felt like I kinda understood what was happening, shit was pretty simple, and then damn… I feel like Silent Hill might’ve been a strong inspiration.. Regardless, thank you!! What else ya got?
I haven’t actually seen silent hill before, but yeah my inspirations stem from lots of A24 horror films like Midsommar and Hereditary, and maybe a little bit of The Shining in there as well. Glad you liked it!
This was incredibly slickly executed. You don't really _feel_ the presumable lack of the budget in any technical part. Really top-notch stuff, Mr Anderson.
I take it this is from a small studio or something done on a personal level with minimal funding but it is an excellent film. I normally don't watch movies as i’m not into fiction, but this one is above the rest and i did watch the entire film. Excellent work and i would recommend for something different, entertaining and realistic even though it’s fiction. A+++++ / I forgot to mention excellent acting also, just as good as the professionals.
If an animal can smell you out! Why would anyone smoke while in the woods? Having gotten into the video, but just seeing him smoke, tells me that he's not trying to hide at all, giving his position away!
I thought for sure when he went back inside the cabin at the end after seeing himself in the deer hide he was going to shoot himself and that he was reliving this loop for eternity.
I'm getting potential hell loop. He may have done something to his wife and son. As punishment he is stuck in this endless cycle of feeling insignificant but having to stay alive?
@@simonhaleanderson You need to have a solid story first before you leave it up to the viewer to figure out what the message/story line is. All I could get from your short video is that he was a young married man who needed to hunt for his wife and new son. He wasn't having luck. He couldn't get through to his wife after awhile, things always seemed to happen at 3:33 and dang, he liked to smoke! I wonder if this "thing" or shape shifter (?) or whatever it was, sensed the hunter's anxiety and stress. Maybe this creature messed with his head in regards to the phone calls to his wife (and at one point we were shown that the jack on the phone was missing.)...leading one to believe that the hunter wasn't crazy--there WAS something in the woods. So. that's my guess? Great job, btw!
@@neverthesame7887 I don't think you have any inkling of understanding of modern cinema. You clearly come from a time of weak Disney stories designed to provide emotional relief to mother's of 8 and keep small children entertained with fallacies of engaging stories. He needs a decent scope for his rifle. He is not carrying a pistol as a back either. I’m carrying a 10mm in those woods. No spare battery for the C10? I give up on this guy!
@@frankhernandez6883 ohh so cool you caught that! The watch and clock are actually set to 3:33 throughout to indicate either his psychosis or whatever is affecting his perception of his reality. Fun little detail, glad you saw that!
So wait you left a badass enclosed probably heated hunting blind with a porch to spot from to climb up some rickety Old Branch Ladder to sit in the crook of a tree, in winter time?! 🤔 There something in the woods alright some townie wearing deodorant and smoking a cigarette while pretending to hunt. Jk 😂
He's hunting himself? Bc everyone knows that you shouldn't be pointing a gun at what you suspect to be a person, even if it is just to look through the scope.
You said it right, never point a gun at anything you don't intend to kill or destroy. One of the core rules of gun safety. Just ask anti-gun democrat Alec Baldwin.
I wonder if he wanted to masquerade into the most useless copy of game, just for ironically pointing out the fact that his way of hunting was all ridiculous and caricatural in the 1st place... . Or probably I've missed something...
Awe poor thing is offended over what doesn't effect him. You seem like an older gentleman, you've got to have more sense than to let something on a film, so miniscule, bother you. I'm offended over pedophilia put into movies.. now that's something to be irritated about, not smoking.
