I wouldn't consider the "cheap matte plastic" to be disappointing. The texture is quite pleasant, and it's a decent balance of production cost to product durability to end-user price.
I have Lumia 630 still in excellent shape and really good phone. I dont need anything else right now. I am satisfied.
I've had this phone for an entire year. It's REALLY durable, and it would be great for those who don't need a front camera or google play apps. The audio is sooooo loud and clear. The camera is very crisp and focuses easily. I would like a front camera and more social apps now, and that's honestly the only reason I'm switching phones. This phone is really great.

i like the matte plastic look because it looks clean and simple. glossy covers to me look cheaper because its shiny and you can see finger prints on it.

The Verdict for this phone:
I have this phone for more than one month and it is a very good phone, everything it can do, it does it great. But I really miss the proximity sensor and the flash. Even the cheapest Indian smartphones (60$ phones) have proximity sensors and flash. If the 630 would have had these features it would have been an excellent phone. I don't need a secondary camera because I never use it, but I am sure 90% of the population need it and use it. This phone would have been priced only 20$ more if it came equipped with proximity sensor, light sensor, flash and secondary camera. 20$ is a small price to pay for an excellent phone. But instead we ended up with very good phone with big shortcomings. I still love the phone because I can rely on it, and it is capable phone.
1. Camera: excellent. It leaves in dust all 5MP cameras, it beats many 8MP cameras.
2. Battery: excellent. You can have up to 5 days of use with one charging, with 30 minutes of browsing and 40 minutes of talk time per day. No other smartphone comes close to it.
3. Gorilla Glass 3: it speaks for it self.
4. Display: Mediocre, Nokia Clear Black is a good addition, and the daylight visibility is very good.
5. CPU: Snap 400 quad core is fast and very energy efficient. All the apps and games are working lag free.
6. GPS: the best GPS I'v seen. It finds and connects to satellites in about 10 seconds.
7. Design: mine is black, and it looks stunning.
8. Talking: mic and speaker is loud and clear.
9. Windows8.1: is fast. I never felt that I am missing some option. I love working on my phone.
10. RAM: 512MB is enough for WP. All the apps and games are working lag free. For the next 2 years you will have no problems using this phone. Then you can buy another one.
11. Proximity sensor: you don't have it. Nokia says the screen will darken when you touch it with your ear, and it will light up again when you remove the ear from the phone. It ain't working properly.
12. Flash light: I need to use the Flash Torch app, and now I am not able to.
13. Secondary camera: I am not a selfie guy, I don't need it.

What is light sensor and proximity sensor?
Yoga Yasahardja Light sensor is a sensor on the front side of the phone which detects the intensity of the sunlight and based on this information the OS regulates the screen's brightness.
Proximity sensor is a sensor on the front side of the phone which detects your face, so that it can lock and dim the screen when you talk to somebody and unlock it again when you remove your face from the screen (stop talking).
oh. like in Galaxy S3 and above.

I've had this phone for over a week now and I couldn't be more happier. Having had phones in the past (iPhone 3GS, Samsung S3 & Note 2), Microsoft have made this phone perfect for users like myself.
I've never been a fan of gaming on phones or relying on the camera (I have an Xbox & digital SLR), but it takes okay photos when you want something to share.
I use smartphones mainly for email, messaging (via Whatsapp - Thank god it's back!), social media and web browsing. If you're looking for a phone that simple/easy to use and quick, I seriously recommend it.
The matt plastic back is good as it sticks to your palm and have dropped it accidentally twice (I'm buying a case for it as I am clumsy) and it hasn't had an effect on the device one bit!
Well worth £130. Would gladly pay £200 for this!

Rodrigo Ramirez i have a samsung galaxy trend plus, and its crap. Laggs, and it takes a lot of time to enter a simple app, or camera, or gallery...never gonna buy samsung again :(
Pizza Guy Samsung devices are always laggy haha. Try getting a moto g, cant go wrong with it. It shows that with optimization Android 4.4 kitkat runs perfectly on a low end device.
Freaking loved that phone and its OS. Wish I kept it just for the nostalgia factor.
This is the best phone at its price. 8.1 is a fantastic up update and I'm very happy with this phone. It has renewed my faith in what Microsoft is offering.
Great device, you dont need proximity sensor, the display still goes off when it touches your cheek and the light sensor isnt a problem... Missing flash only but even w/o flash its still ok. I've been using the phone for few days and im surprised how great it is. Verry good battery life, nice on-screen keyboard (never seen better actually this is my first WP) good browser, fast, easy, simple, solid, verry smooth experience and feels verry comfy in the hand. I love this phone.

i bought the lumia 630 and i can say, that is really great for this priceclass. Im really happy with it.
Got this phone for $50, and can send in a $50 mail-in rebate (so basically free). My main thing was I didn't want to spend a fortune on a new phone, and I was tired of doing T9 texting.
This phone is absolutely better than I expected. I've had slow android phones, but this compares to the Samsung Galaxy S2 I had back in the day. Smooth from app-to-app, no delay in typing, haven't done games, cause I don't have the storage for it, or the time. Also, loving the Windows OS, out of the 3 (4 if you count blackberry) smart phone OS's I've used so far, it is by far my favorite. Worst thing that happens is I don't use it, and I lost $0!

I'd see this as a useful second phone, perhaps having a facing camera would of been better.
Having said that it's a good sturdy robust phone to hold as I found out whilst in carphone warehouse. I'd tested what time I had with the phone instore no cortana unless the final release would give an update to world wide use.

@anna ge I have a lumia 520 and am upgrading to the 630 so I'd go with the 630, the 520 is definitely worth its price but I often loose grip of it with its curved corners. If this is going to be your first windows phone don't use the native youtube app, it sucks. Download a app called myTube, its really good.

btw, I bought this phone recently and it is a great device for budget conscious crowd. Windows Phone 8.1 is as good as Android Eclair (:D). Almost all basic features are present. Camera is best in its category (better than the one on Moto G, imho). OS is smooth, easy to use and UI is same throughout, which helps a lot. Apps are great quality too. More then 3 weeks now and nothing has crashed so far. I think people who don't "live" on their phones can definitely give this one a serious look. btw, I was crying about the RAM too, but it never made it apparent till date: 2 games, browser with 3 windows open, an excel worksheet, one note open along with wi fi and active on call. Transitions were still seamless. Per my experience, Android broke a sweat when doing something similar. There was no choppiness! Can't believe such experience is available for that less.
Just my two cents. :p

you can open anything. gon on windows store and find anything you need.
to uninstal a program, tap it for one second a the option uninstal will show.

No, mainly because
1. The FCC puts the maximum radiation rate at a lower level than what the human body can handle without poisoning, not sure exactly how high though
2. Unless you spend a ton of time rubbing your phone on your face/chest it won't effect you anyways

I have my Lumia 630 for about 2 years. Hardware is ok. For that price, camera is also ok. What I hate is that Internet Explorer crashes very often. I did also a system reset, but IE still seems not to work without crashing from time to time. On my Anroid devices I haven't seen that yet in internet browsers.
this may be a stupid question but does this phone have access to apps like spotify, twitter, instagram, etc? i'm getting tired of an iphone and this is looking like my next phone but i want to make sure i can still have access to the majority of the apps that i currently have!
i've heard there are 2nd party apps that mimic snapchat that are available? i'm not too bothered about that really though

yes..using the MicroSD card slot...he says it has 4GB free of onboard space out of the box but MicroSD cards up to 128GB so that should be plenty,as long as your laptop has a MicroSD slot then youll be fine...if not you could buy a card reader.

all i see is what 512 ram? android fans stop it that please 512 is engouth for mid range phone since it runs almost all app and games with that ram is wp not android who need at least 1,5gb ram....

Proximity sensor is a must for smarthphone. Also light sensor. On Android with 1GB you can run 100% of the applications, with WP too. They need the same amount of RAM, but WP is much more responsive and lag free.
Although I do agree with you, if you make an OS that memory efficient then you wouldn't need much RAM. However, problems will occur when you are running apps that needs more RAM, I think nowadays a standard of 1GB is a minimum.
Andiotic 1GB should be the minimum. However my 630 Lumia is running without lags with only 512MB, and so far I haven't found app that isn't working.

Yes that may be so. I believe apps that are made for Windows Phone OS are probably optimize also, meaning they use less memory than on other devices such as android.
Nokia don't provide Led Flash or a Secondary Camera until the budget is above or equals to 15k. The reason is Nokia's Camera uses advance features, quite better than those of Samsung Grand 2, Moto G or etc. You can check out Lumia 920's Review. Its the only lumia phone that will give you whole satisfaction and value of money. No complaints will be against it. Only the Cons are:- It doesn't have WP 8.1 and It doesn't support Dual-Sim.
This seems like a great device to me. sure it isn't as good as the moto g but i have seen this phone brand new for 100 bucks. and for that price, it seems like a good buy
Its Not just as good as.. Rather it is better than MotoG in many significant aspects!! I find Lumia 630 a better one for me! See.. its about your needs n preferences.. Ill tell u how lumia works better for me:
1. APP STORAGE(very imp for me!):
Moto G - 8/16 GB vs Lumia - 128-freaking-GB!!!!!
bcoz u can move all ur apps to sd card(128gb expandable).. unlike in MotoG
2. STABILITY(another very imp aspect for me)
MotoG - 1 GB RAM vs Lumia 630 - 512MB RAM
i would still pick Lumia in this respect! Android is a heavy system on
processor.. windows on the other hand is way lighter n easy on the
processor.. so generally speaking an android phone running on 512mb RAM would plain suck when compared to 512mb Ram windows phone.. this 512 mb ram windows lumia works (if not better) as good as 1GB RAM processor of MotoG.
3. NOKIA built quality
4. Windows - pure awesomeness - user friendly
5, Cortana - Its Awesome!! like Siri
6. Gaming - both at par
7. Windows 8.1 OS! you've got to check it out.. its awesome!
8. Camera - It says 5MP.. but works like a 7.. its quite decent at good light.. not much difference b/w the two here..
9. Dual Sim - i know both are dual sim.. but a lumia dual sim!!! it needed that so bad!
For me.. the two biggest priorities are: Storage n Stability..
DRAWBACKS of Lumia 630:
1. No Flash - i don't mind that.. hardly need flash cuz i don't usually click pictures in dull lights.. plus pictures clicked depending on flash suck big time! but u might have requirement for flash.. i don't
2. No front camera - if u want a phone for video chating.. its a drawback.. i dont video call through phone.. i use my laptop for that.. so not a drawback for me..

I have this phone.i do everything on this phone. Very good phone. If this had flash and secondary camera this would be a great phone. Anyway I love this very much.
this phone is decent and really cool for its price. I was an owner of iphones and expensive androids in the past, I had a droid 4 in the past. I am pretty impressed by what I can do on it. I really hope that the app store takes a step up however and pus out better games. I noticed that this phone does lack on apps. However its really decent and I enjoy it however.
HELP! Browser videos and even the youtube app videos take 2 minutes to begin. I don't have patience to wait 2 min for every video I want to watch. Why does it do it? It doesnt buffer in the middle of the videos so it is not slow internet but instead it takes 2 min to begin and more if the video is longer. HELP!

Had problems with this phone every since i bought it i cant get onto the app store i put £15 credit on and in 5 seconds it was gone so i don't bother putting credit on it anymore i didn't even use it very angry with this and when i try getting through to the provider it tells me i cant i cant post on fb like or anything which is completely stupid
@Omar Rangel I have this Phone, i bought Minecraft too, its running soooo fast. Battery life is not bad, with strong using, 2 days. Camera is clear.
So many people complaining abt 512mb ram, windows phone runs smoothly even with dual core 512mb ram although some apps would run slower but difference is just millisecond
try to wipe off finger prints before a review. it's irritating

This is not a good review, PhoneArena is comparing this low cost mobile Lumia 630 (Rs. 7500) with Moto G (Rs 13,000) and Grand Duos (Rs 17,000). While at the same price you get Moto e with small screen, same CPU but smaller chipset, dual sim, non-removable low working battery, higher 256ppi - 540x960p display and not so good fixed camera without flash. For the two Moto G and Grand Duos must compare with Lumia 730.

It does, I just got this phone and it works.

Moto G definitely:
- more ram
- front camera
- flash
- KitKat software and the google play store which means much more choice for apps
WP with better camera and limited ram or Android with flash, ffc and no sd card slot. You decide. And let me make it a little more easy for you, WP is better than android if you're not after those laggy 3rd party launchers.
***** Moto G costs more than 630. Ram is not an issue. Agree on front cam and flash. And android is better for apps but for devices not high end apps are not optimized.
If WP UI and much smaller apps count is ok than lumia 630 is best choice. But if you Hate tiles and/or love many apps(most apps we need are there on WP) and need flash or front cam for chatting than Moto G.

OK, my only comment about what's wrong with this review: don't focus exclusively on the WP 8.1 features. Focus on the Lumia 630 features. The first 4 mins of the review (except the lack of light sensor and choice of aesthetics), this could be a generic review of any Lumia with WP 8.1.
