- In this video we have a look at a little known product of the Sheridan Airgun company. While Sheridan is famous for it's airguns, this product is not an airgun but a single shot .22 LR pistol.
Never heard about this. Thanks for such a nice review.👍
Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge I haven't heard about this one before so once again thank you sir.
You are welcome, thanks for commenting.
I had one when I was a kid. My Mom got it for me thinking it was a pellet gun. It was sold along with a lot of stuff when I was in the Army. It has been on my list to review for years. Good job beating me to it. Now on the the Daisy V-L. They made around 5000 of the pistols. and 300 of the rifles before the government made them stop due to them not having a license to manufacture firearms. Daisy hit the same issue with the V-L's and there .22lr rifles.
I bet that was interesting once you found out it was a "real" 22 pistol. Too bad it got away from you - did you manage to find a replacement?
Interesting you should mention the Daisy VL as a buddy has one that he wants to lend to me to do a video with, he also has a fairly decent quantity of ammo for it as well.
Awesome! My release lever is different. It’s more of a long teardrop shape. I do think yours has been modified. The bluing on yours is better than mine. Hang onto it! It’s a fun little pistol.
Yeah, the general consensus is that mine has a modified or repaired opening lever. Importantly it still functions well, because with the way these things are put together replacing one would be quite a process.
So cool. Thanks again. So could you hit anything with it? A video showing group size would be cool too. Would love one .
Accuracy is acceptable with it. The day I had it out I did not get any accuracy footage done, perhaps at some point in the future I will gather up a few different types of 22 ammo and shoot some groups with it and make a separate video on that topic.
In my eyes it looks like a very caveman attempt at trying to make the stechkin but chambered in .22 but it’s a pretty cool pistol first time seeing something like this also I would imagine it’s a bit of a hassle to go through the process of reloading but an interesting find nonetheless
It's certainly not for rapid fire!
How the hell could that look like a Stechkin??
@@gaberobinson8210 you have to turn down the lights, squint and turn your head sideways
@@isaal-magyari9203 Oh yeah I see it now lol
@@314299 Congratulations on recording the sound of this rare little plinker so well in this video. Far better than most which often seem to be electronically suppressed.
By the way, there are steel pop rivets (and copper ones too I believe), but as you said those are of course conventional rivets.
Interesting toy. Reminds me of my Hamilton .22 rifle. They made the barrels out of brass though so accuracy doesn't exist lol.
I've only heard of brass barrels on air rifles, interesting to hear that they used them on "powder burners" as well.
One thing about this pistol is that is sure makes a box of 22 ammo last a long time.
Even though the reload is quirky, that to me is fantastic find. I have never seen one and would be nice in anyone's collection. Thanks for sharing
Yes certainly not the kind of pistol for a quick second shot! But a fun pistol to have if for nothing else then it's quirkiness.

Backwoodsman magazine had an interesting article about these, it's cool to see a video about them.
I've been buying and reading that magazine for a few years but I don't recall seeing that article. Do you recall what issue it was in?
We have 2 or 3 of these pistols at our hunting camp cabin .... If I remember they used these when they use to run trapping lines to finish off the animals.. be well.
Interesting. Trap line use seems like an ideal thing for these pistols.
Think I'm going to clean and lube up the old pistols..
Interesting pistol. You don’t see too many single shot .22 pistols. I could see a lot of hunters & possibly trappers, using these.
True, not too many single shot 22 pistol designs out there. Probably not a lot of market for them.
@@314299 I think there is a market for them but the makers figure they'd need to be cheap to get buyers and they wouldn't make enough profit to bother.
I knew guys that got in trouble for shortening single shot 22's (they only used it like a greener, because ammo was expensive).
@@bertroost1675 Good point.
@@duellingscarguevara Yeah the authorities do frown on such things.
The barrel release is definitely a weld on. Mine is an original, and it's much smaller.
Probably broke off at some point, at least the replacement works OK.
I've only seen them in pictures. Would love to find one. Probably not to difficult to do a DIY version once you have a reasonable schematic.
Yes, this is the sort of design that would adapt itself to craft production
Ugly as sin but as a dispatch gun for a trapper or farmer it would work O.K. ..... Kind of reminds me of the old "Liberator" which of course had a completely different purpose. Mike.
Yes, it's not exactly graced with wonderful lines. It's a little bit better than a Liberator as the barrel is rifled and you dont need a stick to unload it, but made with a very similar manufacturing philosophy. With today's advanced plastics technology I expect a modern version could be made and sold for less than $100 if someone decided to do it.
I wonder if that company was related to the Benjamin sheridan company?
Yes, after various mergers and buyouts. Benjamin, Crosman and Sheridan are all owed by parent company Velocity Outdoors. At this point they are all really just brands owned by the one parent company.
That's really cool! Looks similar to a flare gun.
Yeah it's quite similar in concept to a the design of many flare guns. If you think of it another way it's action is similar to a common single shot shotgun.
Thanks for sharing. Surprised you're allowed to own and shoot it in Canada.
For as long as I've been alive they keep threatening that they want to take handguns away from us, but so far we are still here.
Small size, decent length barrel, low price, looks like a practical trappers gun.
Probably a few of them got put to such a use.
That's a rare piece indeed. It looks like they borrowed some of the lines of the CZ52. Pretty neat pistol. Thanks for sharing with us. God bless. Rev. D.
Yes, it does have a similar profile to the CZ-52 pistol. Thanks for your comment.

@@314299 I Look Forward To More Videos!!!
I like odd too! Thats a great find! I live in Wisconsin. In fact i used to live near Racine. I never knew Sheridans came from there. I had a Sheridan air rifle long time ago.
That's pretty cool. I read somewhere that the current Sheidan air guns are made in New York state.
@@314299there have been but there aren't any today.
Benjamin bought Sheridan in 1977 and Crosman bought both in 1991 moving production to their Bloomfield NY factory in 1992.
They created 1 series of Benjamin & Sheridan airguns that were a bit of an amalgamation of both companies designs.
That went until around 2013 when they dropped the .20 caliber Sheridan airguns and stopped making the traditional Benjamin multi pump rifles last year with only Chinese springers ( break barrels ) and PCP's left.
Since 2013 there have been a few shamelessly Sheridan branded airguns that I hate Crosman for offering.
There was a Sheridan branded Crosman 2260 rifle , a Sheridan branded lever action BB gun, and recently a Sheridan branded Remington new model co2 replica.
There are no Sheridan branded airguns being made in the USA / New York today.
Great video, never saw one of those before very interesting, thanks for sharing.
Thanks. They are a rather uncommon item.
My release tab is a full ball so yours has been modified.
Yeah, it does have a non standard look to it.
Cool pistol
I must say I've never run into someone else at the range with one.
Well tie me to an ant hill and smear my ears with jam. That's very neat. Never seen anything like it.
They are indeed a rather unusual and uncommon item.
I have my grandfathers Sheridan .20 cal pellet rifle. I was unaware that they made actual firearms. It certainly is interesting.
As far as I know this was the only "real" firearm they ever manufactured.
Very interesting pistol. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure. Hope things are going good for you and your family.
Was it me, or did the audio from the bench in the second half of the video just go to basically zero volume?
The camera microphone unfortunately auto adjusts and did so when I dry fired the action, the volume certainly decreased but I would not say it was down to "zero".
I assume that it is the same Sheridan who made quite powerful air rifles that you had to pump up?Their air guns were in .20 a pretty obscure choice.
Yes, this pistol was made by the same Sheridan known for making air guns.
It was a bit of an obscure choice, but that's because Bob Krauss and Ed Wackerhagen created the caliber / ammo then designed the greatest American air rifle ever made to fire that ammo.
It was chosen as an ideal compromise, kind of like the .40 s&w being a compromise between 9×19 and .45ACP ( though it's really just a neutered 10mm auto ).
Sure there was only 1 .20 ammo choice till the German diabolo pellets in the red box were introduced in the 70's, but they were the most accurate American air rifles available back then because of the .20 caliber " Bantam 5's ammunition " they fired.
The Benjamin air rifles and the various Crosman air rifles had similar accuracy potential, but the pellets sucked.
The Sheridan Bantam 5's were more consistent, and were the most consistent American made airgun ammo till Crosman revolutionized the airgun world with their premier pellets 35 years ago.
Rescuing yet another rare gun from obscurity.
Yeah, not exactly a common one. Thanks for the comment.
I have one of this that was given to me because it had been dry fired and the firing pin was broken. Drilled one rivet out and was able to get the firing pin out and with a drill and files was able to make it a shooter again.
Well done. Was it the rivet that is close to the hammer that had to be removed?
@@314299
It was, I only drilled it enough to get it out and was able to peen it back in, not sure if it will stay but is holding for now
thats awesome
Glad you like it.

Thanks for subscribing.
I remember shooting this pistol in the early 60s. Not very accurate.
Do you recall shooting many different types of ammo in it?
typically these were used in the 50s/60s by live stock farmers ( mostly pig farmers) to do the deed. Some of the older pig farmers still have them. They were an up-close thing.
I suppose that one use for one.
Wish someone would make this little guy today , Bet it would sell . I know I would buy it ...
I doubt it would be a money maker if made out of steel, but perhaps a polymer version might be possible.
Veterinarians sidearm?. A 22 despatched my potty calf, (the farmer said i would remember one day. He was right).
As far as I know these were not marketed for that purpose but perhaps some might have been used to put down sick or injured animals.
Found one in my closet thought it might be an air gun from the 50’s but it had a 22 when I broke it up
Do you mean it was loaded when you found it?
It wasn’t chambered no, it just looked like a toy. Was surprised to see that a 22’ shell fit
Had to look it up on UA-cam! 🤭
Very Nice ! 👍
Thanks. It's certainly an odd bit of a pistol.
Very Cool Pistol !
Glad you like it. I've had this thing for years and should have done a video on it a long time ago.
I thought they only made airguns
You are not alone, most folks are only familiar with their airguns.
Neat old pistol
Yeah, I thought so.
Build quality is about the same as the liberator 😢
Uh, it's a lot better than one of those!
There is one of these going on auction near me in a couple weeks...unfortunately I'm not bidding, I figure someone with bigger bucks will end up with it...
What sort of money do you think that one will sell for?
Well if you still monitor your messages I do have a Sheridan knockabout and I honestly think that your barrel release was repaired if you would like to compare I would be more than happy to
Yeah mine does look different than the other examples I have seen photos of so I assume mine was repaired.
these are pretty common guns , but that may change . I can't say its a design that appeals to me , maybe if the barrel was longer it could be a decent target pistol .
They are not common where I live, I've never seen another one. As for the limitations regarding it's utility as a "target" pistol I think the big one is not the barrel length but the non-adjustable sights.
@@314299 I think as far as a vintage gun that is sort of odd it has a lot of charm . I agree with the sights , I'd probably buy one if the price was right . I do see them at shows often enough to not think them a rare item , but they are getting older and that may change . thx for the vid , btw ..
@@314299 might be a good garden gun , .22 shot or even .410 , which MUST be what they had in mind . something for copperheads and such ...
Nice that you found one that isn't held together with electrical tape. Seems like a logical product from an outfit known for it's air guns.
Yeah, seems like a lot of them out there either are missing grips or have the grips taped on. Replacement grips made by 3D printing would be an option with today's technology.
Must be the 'cumbersome' model.
(Well, a little better than busted off car antenna .22 cartridge and a rock, not by much)
I guess you'll not be in the market for one.
Gave the bunnies a fair chance.
Yeah between the single shot and the non-adjustable sights I bet a lot of them got way.
Nice little rabbit or squirrel catcher for the odd sighting when out walking
That would certainly be a good role for one of these.
There are steel pop rivets.
OK, but this pistol is not assembled with "pop" rivets, it uses a hollow rivet that has to be set from both sides, whereas a ""pop" rivet has a steel pin in the center that allows it to be set from one side.
When I first saw it I thought for sure it was going to be from the ussr, it looks very eastern block. Cool...
Racine in in eastern Wisconsin, does that count as eastern block?

Интересное видео! Хороший и простой пистолет, можно сказать даже эксклюзивный.
Yes I agree it is an interesting design. Thanks for the comment.
Наверное дешевле чем пачка сигарет, но бродячих собак стрелять пойдет

Your comment makes no sense.
I've never seen one outside of a book that's a treasure of a old 22 to find
Thanks Joe. Apparently they made something like 11,000 of them over their production run, so they should not be too uncommon, but probably a lot of them were trashed over the years.
Neat.
I like it. Thanks for the comment.
ว้าวๆๆๆอืมหือเจ๊ดอก
Thanks.
it would make a fine suppressor host
With no action cycling (just the sound of the hammer falling) and no cylinder gap it would be just the thing for suppressor use.
Are you sure those aren't roll pins as opposed to rivets?
No, they are not roll pins, there is no hole all the way thru the pin. They are solid pins with shallow holes in each end, it appears that the parts were aligned and the pins riveted outwards with a plug type tool that upset material outwards from the hole to the side plates.
If you were a trapper, how much more would you need?
Yes, one of these would certainly do the job for that situation.
soon it will be the only gun for self-defense
As long as there is metal and plastic there will be guns.
Wooooooo! Great👍
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Wow cool pistol
Not something you come across every day.
ये काम का नही है
I've seen immigrants from your part of the word on our shooting ranges and with the way they shoot one shot certainly would be of no use to them.
Nice little pistol.
Thanks. It certainly is an unusual one.
I have a Belgian rifle and can't find its name. Anyone who knows that tell me. Thank you

Very cool
Thanks.
would have made a good trap line gun
No doubt more than a few were put to that use,
this gun seems useless
Not if you need only one shot....
Interesting pistol, what kind of accuracy did it give you if at all??
Accuracy seemed reasonable enough. I should take it out some day when the weather is decent and test a few different loadings to show how it does.
