the turbo beaver was Al Schmidt's plane he has past away. the plane is now flown by Bob Wonitoy its one of the favorite float planes at the MOFFA event.
A Beaver on floats is one of the finest airplanes to behold. Congratulations on a fine model airplane with that amazing powerplant. I wonder what that model cost to build? Great flying too!
I just figured out why it looks different from a real turbo beaver. When Viking does a turbine swap, they put a box tail on in place of the classic tail.
The Viking Turbo Beaver is built under their own STC. All DeHavalind Turbo Beavers MK3 had the large stab right from the factory, long before Viking. Viking has the "rights" to build factory parts, and of course they use the factory stab. It's there for a control reason.
I'll try to answer that for you. I'll keep it simple. A turbine is not an engine. A turbine engine is an engine! Big difference! Such an engine has a gas generator section followed by a turbine section. The gas generator produces a hot gas stream which the turbine takes energy from. The gas generator combustion chamber is cooled externally by a huge mount of airflow from the compressor up front while the annular (toroidal) flame itself is shrouded in dilution air, also from the compressor and fed through holes in the combustion chamber. The turbine proper sucks must of the energy out of the gas stream which is then dumped overboard so the engine casing doesn't, or shouldn't get very warm. Small engines like these usually have a single shaft while the actual engine used on a Turbine Beaver aircraft is a 'free turbine' engine where the gas generator sections is not mechanically connected to the power turbine. Look up Turbojet, Turboprop engine and P&W PT6 and all will become clear.

You guys take a lot of risk with this model. At least you should have a small boat with strong engine to pick up model if crash. If not you will have to take a diver to get it out of the wather. Trust me I know what I am talking about.

Why flaps? There is a lot of space for landing and taking off. Before WWII a lot of hydroplanes did not have flaps at all.

@@rcbif101 Yes but nobody is sitting in....If the plane crash you have max. few minutes to pick it out. Than it sink to the bottom of the lake.
@@alespersin6066 It would take 30 seconds to get to the boat. If they crash hard enough for it to sink, it wont make a difference.
