At Hancock, around the corner from bike shop on WMRailTrail through the yellow gate is a free pavillion area to camp. Has electric amd water, bathroom.
its fun either way slow or quick, I did DC to Pittsburgh in three and a half days and then took my time coming back going into towns.... it was so hot in August faster first half of my trip was actually easier .... it was painful to stop in the heat and oh boy in towns without the tree shade... yikes! so weird, will all the canal and still water in the locks I totally expected mosquitos would be horrific but not bad at all... going to do it again in a couple months and I cant wait. The bike shop bunk house looks great, didn't know they had showers.... I got a hotels a couple times just so I could use a shower.
Well, in my defense it was mid-October and it was pretty chilly. I live in the DC area and it was not supposed to get all that warm. I also had never been along the canal and I wasn’t aware of just how swampy it is. I also watched a lot of other rider’s videos for research and no one ever mentioned the mosquitoes. That’s why I made certain to emphasize it in my videos. I don’t want anyone to have their ride ruined because they aren’t prepared. That being said, I did find some big stuff and thoroughly enjoyed my ride.
That was October? Whoa I didn't realize that. My bad. I wouldn't have guessed mosquitos then either I'm doing the C&O and GAP myself starting in two days
