In the anime, each region (at least Kanto) is stated to have more than 8 gyms. However, you're required to hold at least 8 badges in order to enter the tournament. Kinda wish they kept such an idea for the games. Would be seriously cool if you could tackle any gym in any order you desired and with each badge you obtained, the level of the other gym's pokemon would increase to make the game both harder and more open ended.
@@Netherwolf6100 Late reply, but just fyi there's a mod of Crystal that does exactly that, called "Crystal Clear". Pretty much exactly what you described from what I know about it, and applies to all 16 gyms in both regions.
Atually only 3 of Gary’s badges are ones we know from Kanto so there would be 15 badges in kanto cause 10 badges - the 3 we know from the normal set=7 +8 = 15

Steven is my favorite Champion, just a little above Cynthia. But my favorite Elite Four member by far is Karen, from 2nd gen. What she says about using your favorite Pokemon to aim for the top was so refreshing. Not something I expected from a Dark type master. And she was the highest ranking Elite Four member of that generation, by using her favorites. Such a brilliant role model for all trainers.

My first Pokemon league challenge: I made it all through the league. Facing Cynthia, we were both down to our last Pokemon, my Infernape and her Lucario. My Infernape was on 45HP, and being the noob that I was, I thought to myself "hey, flare blitz will do the trick!" So I used flare blitz, killing her Lucario, and then my Infernape. It was counted as a loss, and it took me at least 10 more tries to beat her. It still haunts me to this day.

I have no idea why many people refer to Agitha as a GHOST-type trainer when she really is a POISON-type trainer. Seriously, thanks to the fact that all Ghost-types were also Poison-type in Gen I, and that she has Arbok and Golbat, she's definitely more Poison-based than Ghost-based.
Well ... in the rematches in Fire red and Leaf Green she does get a Misdreavus. So ... that probably counts for something.

I forgot about that. Still, you get my point. Agitha originally had 5 Poisons, and only 3 Ghosts, yet she was known as a GHOST trainer. I understand that it's partially because her lead AND her best were more known for being ghost-type, along with the fact that we already had a poison-type boss in Koga, but still.
Because the lack of ghost type during the time and there were so many poison types that Agatha thought it would be cooler if she was a ghost type trainer instead of poison type and she would have stuck to the Gengar line but she needed 5 pokemon to make it fair?
Idk if I'm missing your point, you didn't mentioned the lack of ghost type, so I thought that might be the reason?
I get it, but is this the first time a boss has a Pokémon that's not their type? Pryce has a Seel (Water), Lorlei has Slowbro (Water/Psychic), Lance has Gyarados and Aerodactyl (Water/Flying and Rock/Flying), etc. Just a similar type or a Pokémon similar to their type.

I understand about Pryce, Lorelei, Lance, Iris (she is the worst, actually, with Archeops, Lapras, and a third I can't remember that isn't ACTUALLY a Dragon when she was a champion), etc. It's just that in Agatha's case, ALL of her Pokemon share a Poison typing, but only three share the Ghost typing. I also understand that there weren't very many Ghost types back in Gen I, but I was still making a point that we have five Poisons and only three Ghosts.
Here's the thing about Blue... He's a jerk because he likes to tease the player, he doesn't actually hate him.

I love how Silver learns to respect and love his Pokémon as the game progresses. It makes him one of my favorite rivals.
RagingSalamence Silver doesn't really hate you. He is just a jerk who treats his pokemon badly. He gets better towards the end of the game.

Her name is Diantha, she is an actress, she has a Mega Gardevoir and her assistant ( I think it's her assistant ) slapped Professor Sycamore in the face with a book. Yeah, plus, I'm pretty darn sure that Diantha and Steven might have feelings for each other.

I agree I love grass types and I feel they don't get enough love. I mean I know Chesnaught is a starter but he is a boss, I think he could be a good pick for an elite four leader.

Let's not forget that Cynthia will stand for nothing less than sheer perfection. Her Pokemon all have an IV of 31 in everything.
That said, I'd probably have placed Agatha higher myself. We've had some run-ins, and it turns out that a very simple glitch in Generation I makes her by far and away the strongest trainer of all time. Curious? Just search up "Agatha Ultima."

I was hoping Cynthia would top this list, and I'm not disappointed. She's my favorite champ too. Everything from her team, her theme music, both the piano and the battle theme, her personality, design, everything. Utterly flawless and massively badass.

I must rethink my magikarp strategies. If I'm a good trainer, then my Magikarp should work well against the champion. Good advice.

Train it to level 70+. Give it a focus sash/band. Have some other pokemon who can set up enviromental advantages (eg. Stealth Rock). Use splash. Then when Magikarp gets downed to 1 hp, use flail. OHKO usually. Also, make sure Magikarp has high speed.
Just take the Magikarp and bludgen everyone to submission
If you're a good trainer your Magikarp should've evolved to Gyarados already bruh 😂😂😂

I really want a Hoenn remake so we can see more of their Elite Four. I really liked Phoebe and Sidney's design.
I'm not a fan of Sinnoh, but Cynthia is the hardest champion I have ever faced, and she is definitely one of the best champions out there.

This was mildly entertaining.
Steven was already really high on my list of favorite Elite 4 and Champions list, but after Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, I think he managed to become my favorite champion. He is no pushover as a Champion, wielding Mega Metagross at will (upon which if my Mega Swampert had fainted, I would have lost the battle, period), they do such a good job adding onto his character in ORAS and the role he plays in the greater plot (other than just the final boss), including the Delta episode, not to mention he gets all the ladies! XD
(I also love Cynthia; it was really hard for me to put Steven over her considering her team is ridiculously strong and she's just awesome, but he deserves it. If there are DP remakes, we'll see then...)

Drake literally mopped my whole team the second time with his mega salamence, but, out of total luck, he ended up missing and I finished him, Steven was actually easier than Drake
Carson Libbey Probably will never happen. There have been Pokemon console games (all of which have been spin-offs), but the entire success of the Pokemon franchise (of namely the main series games) was because of the link cable. Being able to trade and battle with friends was the initial appeal of the franchise because back in the 90s, that concept was still very new and innovative.
Now that it's done globally via the Internet and the success of these games have been built up so much around that concept, I doubt we will ever see a console release anytime soon. I'm sure we will likely see more spin-off games on consoles like the Wii U, notably with the announcement of Pokken, and many people have wanted a third installment of the Pokemon Colosseum series for a long time, but it's really depends on where the money can be found and which companies will be willing to produce the game (since GameFreak only really does the handheld games and every other spinoff was made by various other companies).

I totally agree. Cynthia is by far the best champion ever. She's also very challenging in Pokemon diamond. If you don't get decent Pokemon you WILL get recked by Cynthia. My Empoleon still couldn't get past her garchomp...
For me, Steven is my favorite. I just enjoy his personality, and I think he's a well-thought out character.

Pikatostes salados Because she had a large role pre-e4 compared to previous generations (Aside from Blue, Lance only had the Lake of Rage mission, and Steven's purpose was to teach you about Kecleon after a couple quick appearances), and her team was generally the toughest to defeat for teams of its generation of any champion.
Her mascot is a bloody Garchomp, gen 4 wi-fi devourerer of souls.
Steve Ford She is powerful but she will never be the "Strongest trainer". Calling her that is an over statement...
I love how accurate the ending is in Pokemon Origins. Blue is just like "Wow I can't believe I was the champion for only 5 minutes" lol

N. First champion with a legendary Pokémon since Spiritomb and Volcarona don't exactly count, VERY philosophical, a kind personality, badass even lacking Pokémon in the anime, and a depressing past. For this reason, he's both my favorite champion and favorite all around character.
Not to mention that he ensures you have a fair chance against him in every battle with N
In black & white he beats alder before you do, so technically he is, although he rejects the position.

Also has the shortest reign as Champion. When you battle Blue you have no idea how long he was in the Champion room it could have been hours to days, but N you actually see him get the Championship and you know for sure how long he had the title.

Man you gotta love Alder. Even when he’s getting rejected, he still has a good time. Fighting with philosophy and love is the greatest kind of trainer style ever in my opinion. He’s an awesome character throughout the games and anime. My favorite champion of all time. He trained Marshal, who is stupidly strong in the games.
You forgot that Cynthia also has some of the best battle music in the entire franchise (background music in this video)

Iris actually worked her way up from being in training, to gym leader and then champion. She earned that title and her team is bad ass strong, her battle music is also cool. I'm not saying she's as good as Cynthia, I agree with her being number one. But Iris most definitely is better than a shitty champion like Alder. Bad Luck King I could just use one pokemon to beat her and everyone does have the same pokemon as me because its cobalion so basically use a fighting type move and iris is screwed while with the elite four for gen 5 I needed an entire team instead and I still lost to the elite four unlike others I could use three pokemon to beat them

Cynthia is actually my favorite Pokemon character of all time! I even have a competitive team with her Pokemon! Also, her theme is my favorite Pokemon song and one of my favorite video game songs.

I've always been very fond of Will from the Johto elite four. Not only for his cool design, but also because he's one of the newer members when you reach victory road and knows your pain of working so hard to get where you are only to have your ass handed to you when you beat him. And even then he humbly accepts his loss and says he'll keep training until he stands above all other trainers, inspiring many players like myself to keep trying even when we get stomped by the champion and other members of the elite four.

no, gen 1 had Lorelei, bruno, Agatha and lance, and then blue as the champion, while johto had will, Koga,( who was a gym leader in gen 1) Bruno, and Karen, and then Lance as the champion.

Bravigaufre Toxic Orb Guts is an even better choice (although STAB Flare Blitz still has more Base Power than Facade). I forgot about that for a moment.
YEAH!! I was about to cry because Cynthia wasn't on there, and it turns out she's number one!!! My favourite is by far Cynthia, she has such cool pokemon at just the right balance of types and levels. Plus she's really friendly and helpful throughout the game, and adds loads to your pokedex when you battle her. And she has awesome hair. (I know that's random, but hey, it's true!)
oh yeah, and she has epic battle music. And what she wears, you can tell she's awesome even before you battle her. Plus she was the first person EVER to make my Empoleon faint. Good thing I brought lots of revives.

Blue's the perfect example of a rival. Every other rival after gen1 felt too soft to be a enemy.
Yea especially the rival in g/s/c he was really soft.

Silver (or w/e his name) was just a punk to me. Yes he's the son of Giovanni but he was always behind the protagonist and he always complained that his pokemon sucked. Blue was always a step ahead of you and when you beat him, he shrugs it off and continues being ahead of you (and better than you) until the indigo league.

Ok, so the fact he's Giovanni's son, the only rival to actually be "evil", the only rival ever to physically harm the player (As seen in him kicking the player out of his way or away from him multiple times during the game.), you call him the softest? Look I get he might be a punk, that I won't say anything against, but he IS the only Rival to be evil, to physically harm you, to steal and cheat his way all the way through the League, and is the son of the biggest name in crime in the Pokemon world ever...He's the "toughest" of all the Rivals, and to call him the softest...Well, my points proven, don't need to get into name calling.
Caitlin is my all-time favorite Elite Four member, and Cynthia is my favorite Champion.

I feel like red was my favorite battle, I loved how he didn't say anything when you fight him, it's like when two warriors that are extremely powerful have met and have no need for words, and they understand each other through battle.

i dont hate new pokemon games. but the old games were way better.
oh yeah, cause people really liked blue. he was an annoying prick who cared very little about anything besides showing you up. he wasnt even that difficult to beat. i prefer the newer rivals because they werent one dimensional twats and actually had roles besides being a blockade, however small that role was

Cynthia is by far my favorite, I thought Diamond/Pearl were one of the harder duo of games to come out, but Cynthia kicked my ass so many times, that Garchomp is the bane of my existence.

I would've ranked him the same as Siebold, for they both give off poetic themes, and those usual rich people feel. They both do give off great philosophy, and they also show that it doesn't matter what your opponent haves, you just got to work with what you got, so therefore a great advice.

Another thing about Catlin is that when you meet her at the battle frontier, you don't actually battler "her", you battle her butler, because if she did battle the player and lose, her power would've got out of control and kill the player with her powers

Wow I totally agree with your list! Cynthia is the clear choice for #1 for me. She has a cool theme and is one of the few trainers capable of forming a solid team lol. Caitlin is very interesting to me too. She goes from little Princess who stays in the background to a badass Elite Four member(the only one who is actually challenging from that generation). Malva's two-faced attitude was totally not expected for the news lady!
Some people were commenting about Silver..... I had absolutely no idea...but when I saw someone say he starts treating his pokemon better by the end of the game, I realized I named that guy ASSwipe...

drasna's one of my favorites. she's like that sweet old lady who makes cookies and comes off as utterly adorable...but then when you make the mistake of pissing her off or hurting those she cares about, you learn the hard way that she was with special forces back in the day

I think you forgot to mention that next to Lance, Cynthia has one of the best themes in any pokemon game.
I agree, Cynthia is my fav Champion/Elite 4. She was the one who got me to like Garchomp! Which was my favorite Pokemon! And she and Garchomp was amazing in the Anime.

My first Pokemon game was Diamond and Pearl. I had no idea what I was doing going into the Elite Four. When I got to Cynthia, I almost got destroyed, but my Torterra carried me through the freakin battle. After that, I went back and found the rest of the champs weren't all that bad compared to her!
They were my first game too! And I got wrecked by Cynthia once I got to her. My memory is foggy, but I think I won with my Torterra using Struggle.
In my Pearl, I almost lost to Cynthia. My only Pokémon left was me Infernape in the red. However, she had the misfortune to save her Roserade for last. Blast Burn, OHKO, gg.
skyeblu I think I Synthesis Stalled until we both had to use struggle, and both only had one pokemon and she lost the recoil battle.
For me it was my first pokemon game is I used only my infernape because he was the only high level so her garchomp and Milotic recked me

My fave is Red.
My first Pokemon game is Red and I had a blast finishing it. Had to fight Lorelei multiple times before eventually I finished the whole Elite Four. Did not do anything whole day but just that. Only to had one more battle with Blue with low bat. When I finished him the first time, my gameboy died I was so mad. Not only did I have to battle through him, but also through multiple combinations of used AA Batteries. And when I made it to the title screen after end credits, so much feels of accomplishment there is.
So, when I battled Red in Silver 2 years after I finished PokeRed, All those goofie and adrenaline memories came flooded back and reminded me of good times. It's like, hey I know you, we were doing this and that and we made it through. It's like seeing an old friend that was with you through good and tough times. And now we're reunited and we get to see how we have changed and improved since when we parted. A happy reunion. No words are needed to express anything. We just have to battle through again, just like old times.
i think TheJWittz did a fantastic job an i completely agree with malva fire types hold a special place in my heart for being the first type i used so 2 thumbs up for TheJWittz.
why no one remember Karen? The elite four member that was the first "boss character" to use dark-type and the member who believes in battling with pokemon that are a trainer's favorite and not focusing on which pokemon are strong and which ones are weak. Like she says, that is the selfish perspective of trainers
I think its because compared to the others shes almost an after-thought. She was the only new face and didn't really stick out much.
She seems to be the only one to be in it for the shear enjoyment of it and doesn't have any or need a profound background or philosophy behind her reasoning though. In that way she mirrors the player.
Cynthia isn't just hot on the outside, she has a beautiful mind as well. ^_^
My favorite would have to be Steven. He's one hot classy champion. xD

Cynthia is awesome! Her team is so balanced. Her roserade,rapidash,garchomp,milotic,togekiss, and spiritomb was the made like the perfect team. It took so many tries, but it was the battle I'd never forget.
And now Gen 7 came out with its Elite Four. It’s hard, yet extremely satisfying to beat.
Cynthia absolutely kicked me in the nuts with that Garchomp.
I just want to say Alder deserves more credit for being the ONLY one who provides a somewhat ration explanation to why Red abandoned his post. In a scene in Black and White, he asks Cheren what he plans to do after he becomes champion. Cheren has no answer, having never thought about it. When you strive to be the best at something, what happens next once you are the best? Perhaps this was the conflict Red faced after becoming champion and left his post to find a greater challenge. Leaving for Mt. Silver to train, hoping one day for a greater challenge to be discovered. Which is most likely why after his isolation, we see him in the Pokémon Champion Tournament.

I LOL'd at the Breaking Bad reference. xD And Blue is my favorite champion, just because of the feeling you get when you first battle him as a champion. I remember spazzing out as a child when I found out that Blue was the champion, someone you've been competing with since the beginning of the game is your very last battle of the game.

My favorite theory as to why Red is on the top of Mount Silver is that that's the only place he can find enough food to feed his Snorlax, since whenever you defeat a Snorlax without catching it, it flees to the mountains.

What I loved about Cynthia in Diamond/ Pearl and Platinum was that she told you at her first meeting that she is studying Pokemon Myth. The interesting part is here that inside the Eterna City Headquarters one of the Team Galactic members said there Boss would study Pokemon Myth and I instantly thought Cynthia was the Team Galactic Boss
