I have learned the hard way to use quality needles! For my machines (all vintage--one antique), I use Schmetz needles. This is especially true for the early '80s Bernina, which is super fussy. I, also, do my fair share of hand sewing, and quality needles really make a difference there. I think it is more of a striking difference because I am the one pushing the needle through the fabric, not the machine.
Totally agree! There's nothing worse than a low quality hand sewing needle snagging the fabric as you try to sew! Quality definitely counts! Thanks for sharing and for watching! 🙂
Thank you for the information. I have a question. I bought a lot of different purpose singer needles recently. Can I store them as it is in their plastic packaging? Would they go bad in any way with time?
Are Pfaff needles longer than 38mm.? I need longer one side flat for my old Brother and Riccar 608. Yes it can back out but its a hassle, I want ones that fit.
As far as I know the Riccar 608 is a class 15 domestic machine. It should take standard 130/705H needles. I think it threads left to right though so the needle should be flat to right. Both Pfaff and Brother domestic machines use the 130/705H system. As I don’t know which Brother you have, I can’t say which way the needle goes. If the needle is too long when inserted flat to back, try flat to right or flat to left.
My "Hello Hobby" needle experiences are horrible it kept giving me issues with my machine I was going crazy trying to figure out my my machine randomly started malfunctioning.
It's a bit of trivia, and not of any real import, but... Schmetz is a funny word to get your tongue around when you're an English speaker - especially when all the words we have with 'sch' at the start are pronounced 'sk' - like school, scheme and schism etc. Pretend the 'c' is not there, but the 'h' is and the 'metz' at the end is 'metts' - Sh metts. :-)
and yet, depending on where you happen to be, 'schedule' isn't pronounced 'skedule' - it's 'shedule'. English eh... there is no right or wrong. Thanks for watching. 🙂
@@SimplyStitchy Yes - Schedule always had me betwixt and between. Luckily German is much more 'regular' with its spelling and punctuation. English is a wonderland of exceptions to the rules. 🙂
Yes, The cheaper needle made Jerome, my Janome, have more of a "thuwmp. thuwmp" noise... kind of a bit like the noise you hear when the needle's getting blunt. I'm definitely sticking with Schmetz! Thanks for watching 🙂

The cheap-o made in China needle made the Janome sewing machine sound louder unless it was my imagination.
