The video almost brought me to my knees. This song has always reminded me of my brother who was mentally and physically handicap but he was my brother and we were very close. He died in 1995. As long as there was breath in my body I would have taken care of. He was definitely not a burden. He was my and still is my brother.

I'm 66 yrs old, 67 next month April a Rock and Metal musician and in school it was sad whenever a classmate was heard crying during school hours...someone in they're family died in Vietnam. This Band was great from the era of the British Invasion of Rock n Roll!...Rock n Roll was the best side affect of any troubled times! Can you believe the music industry now? When I used to mess up, which was quite a lot, my brother would always bail me out. My other brothers and sister would get upset with him and tell him he should stop helping me. He would just say "he ain't heavy, he's my brother". I miss him so much.

Try "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum, Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells. Miss those days. Hollies (pron. like Christmas Holly.) BTW, that was a harmonica.

That sound is a Bb (B flat) Hohner blues harp or also called Harmonica.......The Hollies just a wonderful band years ago!!!!! Spectacular vocals and band as a whole always sounded good!!!!!!
The instrument is the harmonica. This song is so needed these days. I ADORED this song when I was a kid. I went to Catholic school and we were taught to sing this song, among others involving peace, love, and togetherness.
The Hollies were best known for well-crafted innocent pop hits. This big ballad was a change for them along with “The Air That I Breathe”.
They started out on the “Merseyside” scene (along with The Beatles.)
This is a beautiful song about lifting your fellow man up when he needs help. We need this song today. Think it was the 70s when it was released.
The Hollies are one of the best groups of the 60s. The 2011 documentary "Look Through Any Window" can be seen on Amazon and is fantastic! React to some of their early songs when Graham Nash was still with them.

The title of this song goes all the way back to an 1884 book called The Parables of Jesus. Over the years many other people have used this song title. Fr. Flanagan used this title in promoting Boys Town. The lyrics are beautiful and have great meaning. Especially in this day and age.
In 1918, Fr Flanagan saw one boy carrying his crippled brother on his back. When he asked if the boy was heavy, the older one replied: “He ain’t heavy; he’s my brother, Father.”
This inspired Fr Flanagan to adopt the response as a slogan for Boys Town, and it, in turn inspired the famous song, which became a hit for the Hollies in 1969.

How in the wild wild world of sports did you come across this song being that you're so young and I was in the 8th or 9th grade when this was heavily played on the radio? I'm 66 yrs old, 67 next month April a Rock and Metal musician and in school it was sad whenever a classmate was heard crying during school hours...someone in they're family died in Vietnam. This Band was great from the era of the British Invasion of Rock n Roll!...Rock n Roll was the best side affect of any troubled times! Can you believe the music industry now? They banned Rock n Roll you don't hear it anymore...they have been trying for years to shut it down since Elvis Presley! Thanks for your reaction and 'there's plenty more where that came from'! When I used to mess up, which was quite a lot, my brother would always bail me out. My other brothers and sister would get upset with him and tell him he should stop helping me. He would just say "he ain't heavy, he's my brother". I miss him so much.

So glad you reacted to this. One of the classics. So many of the songs from the 60's and 70's were message songs about peace, love and care for humanity. Many were very spiritual, not religious. Try "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum, Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells. Miss those days. Hollies (pron. like Christmas Holly.) BTW, that was a harmonica.
