6:41 Fun fact: Both Dust man and Crystal man were created and submitted to Capcom by the artist for the One Punch Man manga, Yusuke Murata when he was a kid
Thanks for that "jazz cup" knowledge. I think it's really cool they put that 90s art style in here...those UI backgrounds look like the folders/binders I used to have in elementary school.
Those were good times, I remember snagging up Metal Storm for 10$ cause Derek said it was good. Now it's worth 120$ or so. I'm enjoying the new content as well. :)
wow...the HVGN nostalgia. Despite coming from a place of parody, it introduced me to some of the best things I never knew I needed like Metal Storm, Splatterhouse, and Wild Guns. While I do sometimes miss that era, you have come a LONG way from where you started. Cheers, man.
I see you back there, HVGN DVDs. Loved the old school throwbacks, and a solid review. I always prefered this format to your videos, and while it's not TOO different now, you still make excellent content
List of video games in the backround: >Earthbound >Rocket Knight Adventues >Splatterhouse 2 >Splatterhouse 3 >Ilbleed >............... >.......Friggin *Pictionary*
I never felt like Tale-Spin was a bad game, but holy crap is it hard! I don't know how I clocked it when I was 9. Last time I played I barely made it to halfway through the game, lol.
tbh I find Duck Tales 2 VASTLY superior to first game. It's bigger, tighter, music is better, gameplay is more diverse and fair. It's just a way better game.
The Disney Capcom megavid was my introduction to you after your cameo on the really old Channel Awesome Dragon Ball Evolution vid. Thanks for entertaining me every since 2010, some of the worst moments of my life occurred within that timeframe and now I'm in college and a lot further along in my life. Take care, Derek.
Darkwing duck was amazing, but super hard at times. Like above Mega Man difficulty (cause if you know what powers to use you can blaze through those games)
awesome throwback to the HVGN series. i want NinjaWarriors Again ported like Wild Guns, with multiplayer and one extra ninja(sprite art is expensive and difficult so im being gentle with wishes). Also digital ports of the MegaMan Zero collection and Megaman ZX/ZXA on console and Steam.
Believe it or not, this is actually happening. _Ninja Warriors Once Again_ is scheduled to drop in 2019, and will have remastered graphics and widescreen support, two player local co-op, and *two* new playable characters. Man, what a time to be alive.
Now that they added SNES Aladdin to the Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King set if Capcom wound add the goof troop game to this then we wound have an compect set.
I would very much like to see the SNES Disney Capcom games get re-released in the same way as the Disney Afternoon collection. Example, Aladdin and Goof Troop needs to be re-released asap!
I actually will have to disagree with you on Ducktales 2 and Rescue Rangers 2, I find them both to be excellent. Even so, I respect your opinion, and this episode was a lot of fun! I really hope there's a physical release, and on the Switch. I wanna play these games on the go
It's always a debate when it comes to remastering or re-releasing old games. Do you fix the issues of the old game for a new generation, or maintain the old issues (like slow down) to maintain the nostalgia for the people who are most likely to buy it?
As a long time HVGN fan (hell, it even inspired my own reviews,) this was an awesome throwback. Interesting how much harsher you are on RR2, I actually have eased up on it and now can forgive the slowdown a little bit...but then again, never played it in 2 player mode. I said the same thing regarding the fact that this collection would've been worth it for Rescue Rangers 2 alone (forget paying $250-300+ for a cart and risk potentially getting a repro in the process...) but the lack of physical kills my interest. Glad to hear you've warmed up to DD, it really is a fantastic title. I gotta ask, what's in the mason jar? Apple pie flavored moonshine, no doubt. great video as always, Derek!
I feel like I'm in the minority when I say I genuinely prefer Chip & Dale 2 to the original. It's the one I grew up with, and having played them both as an adult, I still feel that the sequel has better level design, better music, more variety and overall has more atmosphere to it. One might argue that, because I indeed grew up with it, my nostalgia goggles have been melded onto my face, making it impossible for me to judge these games fairly, but I'd say the same is true the other way around as well. Whichever you grew up with, the other one will always be 'that other, different one' that's just not as good. Playing Duck Tales 2 will be an interesting experience, since I never really grew up with either of them.
KaroKoenich Yes, loved the class and character he had as HVGN. Also, Stop Skeletons From Fighting doesn't make a lick of sense for a title. Sorry Derek, but the wine drinking you was better.
Man, your final glass of wine looks like.. uh... sterile specimen collection cup with сorresponding liquid. Looks horrible. Anyway it's great video, reminds good old days. Thanks!
At least the NES version of TaleSpin is better than the Megadrive/Genesis version. Man this version is soooo baaaaad! Well...I do like the music though.
Anybody here remember Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow? That game was the shit, every level is just overflowing with personality, atmosphere, and cohesiveness, i'd love to see a remaster or a port of that game. Or heck, even an animated short or TV show based off of the property. But it's so obscure I know Disney wouldn't even consider the idea, *sigh*. But hey, maybe you could give it a review in the future? More people need to know about my boy Maui Mallard.
Which games would I like to see ported to new consoles.......oh lord have mercy......well so we're not here til hell freezes over I'll just say Three Wonders, Alien VS Predator Arcade, NEO GEO Blazing Star, Shadow Man N64, the Turok series and Hagane.
After watching several of your videos now, and the exceptional quality and light touches of humor mixed with honest opinion and real research, you have earned my subscription. Not that that is special in any way, shape, or form, but I just want to commend you on your fantastic videos.
I don't want to sound like a broken record in the comments, but I love the HVGN videos the best. I don't know why, maybe because it was during a great period in my life or maybe the videos are just awesome or maybe both. Not to discredit your other videos, I like them too, but please do more HVGN style videos. Here and there is fine. And of course if they release a new Splatterhouse.
I never saw the appeal of Ducktales. It had the control issues like you mentioned with the pogo stick, the game was incredibly short, didn't offer much challenge, and the final level just reused an earlier level, which was pretty lame. I never saw why everyone liked it so much when it seemed like the NES had so many better games.
omg you changed your tune about Darkwing Duck!!! you have no idea how happy that makes me
Let's take a moment to think about the terror of being a candy in a kid's store.
You would get your pick of any of the delicious children. It'd be like being a kid in a candy store.
It sounds like an alternate universe Rick & Morty world. lol

Fun fact: Both Dust man and Crystal man were created and submitted to Capcom by the artist for the One Punch Man manga, Yusuke Murata when he was a kid
hey we all gotta start somewhere (crystal man is pretty cool though!)
"One Punch Man" almost sounds like he ought to be a Mega Man villain.
@@EdmondDantes224 Hard Man should've been Punch Man, what with his weapon and all
Murata is a god. One of the best manga artists.
Dang I did not know that, thanks for spreading the knowledge!
Thanks for that "jazz cup" knowledge. I think it's really cool they put that 90s art style in here...those UI backgrounds look like the folders/binders I used to have in elementary school.
I feel old that i actually experienced the HVGN era on this channel
Windwalker88 wait until August
Those were good times, I remember snagging up Metal Storm for 10$ cause Derek said it was good. Now it's worth 120$ or so. I'm enjoying the new content as well. :)
Windwalker88 I experiebced it and I'm 19. I really don't think you should feel that old.
Windwalker88 I've been around since the Rocket Knight Adventures review.
I did, too. I'm glad Derek's still making good content.
I see all those callbacks to the old HVGN videos on those shelves back there, Derek :P
Zoda's Revenge should be front and centre
lol I own those dvds
now all we need is a guest appearance by Calvin.
You got it at the end lol
He's hanging on the wall behind the couch
It's been 6 years, and we sadly don't have this collection on the Switch
wow...the HVGN nostalgia. Despite coming from a place of parody, it introduced me to some of the best things I never knew I needed like Metal Storm, Splatterhouse, and Wild Guns. While I do sometimes miss that era, you have come a LONG way from where you started. Cheers, man.
Man, what a blast from the past. It's always good to see and hear references to the old HVGN days!
I'd like it if Derrick split the show and did most the videos SSFF but dropped an HVGN epsisode maybe a few times a year as a treat
Gametourny 4ever Yeah, that would be awesome.
"You leave and come back with something cooler than a shrug!" Best line in a while!
I'd love for Little Nemo to get the same treatment. Seriously, that game is balls hard and I'd love a save feature.
I never found it that hard but it deserves a Re release, it's one of my favorite NES games
It's a great game, but the third level can go fuck itself. At least there's unlimited continues.
speaking of NES and going off-topic, how were you supposed to beat Mario 3 in one sitting?
Beating Mario 3 in one sitting is easy. 3 to 4 hours tops.
+Giordan Diodato we just did...
I remember having Rescue Rangers and Talespin on the NES.
I never got past the beginning areas of Talespin with how obscenely hard that game was.
man i miss your old videos have not watched since your last hvgn could not make it pass your first ssff video glad to see a flash back
I see you back there, HVGN DVDs.
Loved the old school throwbacks, and a solid review. I always prefered this format to your videos, and while it's not TOO different now, you still make excellent content
Loved the Dust Man call back. Long time fan, don't ever stop creating man.
NECKBONE needs a return
Ah, I love all these pre 2000 Disney 2D games :) I hope they remake the magical quest series for current consoles. That would be insane good :D
Always going back to 3 because Pig King, Angry Flower and Big-headed Octopus are all so satisfying to beat up.
Loved the vid, and I totally agree - Goof Troop is sorely missed in this collection!
List of video games in the backround:
>Earthbound
>Rocket Knight Adventues
>Splatterhouse 2
>Splatterhouse 3
>Ilbleed

"It's like candy in a kid store"
Hol up...
Right in the feels! Been here since Metal Storm, still loving it!
Maybe we'll get remastered Quest 64 and get Boyer back to redeem himself :^)
I'd like them to do a SNES Disney Collection - Aladdin, the Magical Quest games, Goof Troop, etc
I never felt like Tale-Spin was a bad game, but holy crap is it hard! I don't know how I clocked it when I was 9. Last time I played I barely made it to halfway through the game, lol.
There's the Derek I fell in love with. Good to have you back buddy.
tbh I find Duck Tales 2 VASTLY superior to first game. It's bigger, tighter, music is better, gameplay is more diverse and fair. It's just a way better game.
Shout-out to that Imperial Godzilla toy in the background! ;)
Oh man! I miss the HVGN intro!
I personally prefer Sega's Disney games to Capcom's but they are overshadowed. Hopefully they'll bring out a collection of the master system games.
Darkwing duck was amazing, but super hard at times. Like above Mega Man difficulty (cause if you know what powers to use you can blaze through those games)
Since it's a throwback episode, have to do a throwback comment:
Hi Derek's Mom!
awesome throwback to the HVGN series. i want NinjaWarriors Again ported like Wild Guns, with multiplayer and one extra ninja(sprite art is expensive and difficult so im being gentle with wishes). Also digital ports of the MegaMan Zero collection and Megaman ZX/ZXA on console and Steam.
that would be up to Taito as they own Ninja Warriors Again.
And Taito is now owned by Square Enix, so...
Believe it or not, this is actually happening. _Ninja Warriors Once Again_ is scheduled to drop in 2019, and will have remastered graphics and widescreen support, two player local co-op, and *two* new playable characters.
Man, what a time to be alive.
HELL YEAH new Video!!! Derek you are the best!
This is the format you do best. I hope you incorporate being on camera again in future videos. You don't have to be HVGN to do it.
HVGN nice to see you again...!!! I'll watch your old videos again also :) Btw, cool re-review.
Those are classic games man, capcom made the best disney games back in the day.
Fun to see Calvin at the end. What happened to him? I can't find him online anywhere.
I...I kinda miss the HVGN format. Seeing this was really nice.
I half expected to see the Retroware TV intro.
i sure hope digital eclipse is making the rumored megaman collection 2 i need megaman 9 and 10 in my life again great vid derek
Now that they added SNES Aladdin to the Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King set if Capcom wound add the goof troop game to this then we wound have an compect set.
Those HVGN videos are not old! They're noooot!!!! *cries*
What is that? A jar of Granny's Peach Tea? 😮
"Dust Man, you suck!" I C WUT U DID THER!!!!!!
I would very much like to see the SNES Disney Capcom games get re-released in the same way as the Disney Afternoon collection. Example, Aladdin and Goof Troop needs to be re-released asap!
I remember that I wanted to hate you because I thought you was a rip off of avgn, but then I stayed, enjoyed and missed you! And here I am!
Is that Mystic Quest Legends under Mystic Quest? Nice.
love the new intro
What games would I want ported to this gen? Simple: the Thunderforce series!
will this get a physical release?
Ooooohhhh! THAT’s where I remember you from!!
Ok...but if this collection included goof troop then we would've seen neckbone right?
I actually will have to disagree with you on Ducktales 2 and Rescue Rangers 2, I find them both to be excellent.
Even so, I respect your opinion, and this episode was a lot of fun! I really hope there's a physical release, and on the Switch. I wanna play these games on the go
Ducktales 2 > Ducktales always. I've always felt that the original Ducktales was the longer more boring gaming to be honest
"Good games are great because they are good "
Mmmm Jazz cups....mmm...like a Chuck E Cheese birthday party
It's always a debate when it comes to remastering or re-releasing old games. Do you fix the issues of the old game for a new generation, or maintain the old issues (like slow down) to maintain the nostalgia for the people who are most likely to buy it?
dogishappy0
Personally, I want things to stay for the sake of preservation.
Man... would have liked to see Goof Troop and Little Mermaid on there.
As a long time HVGN fan (hell, it even inspired my own reviews,) this was an awesome throwback. Interesting how much harsher you are on RR2, I actually have eased up on it and now can forgive the slowdown a little bit...but then again, never played it in 2 player mode. Oh boy! Talespin.....!!
I feel like I'm in the minority when I say I genuinely prefer Chip & Dale 2 to the original. It's the one I grew up with, and having played them both as an adult, I still feel that the sequel has better level design, better music, more variety and overall has more atmosphere to it.

I'm learning English with your videos lol
I just started ducktales and I don’t like that it doesn’t go by the story you start with the ability to go to any of the levels..
You put "Digital Foundry" in the description :P
And it's Digital Eclipse. Just phoning what this comment was saying.
I caught it on sale a year ago for 5 bucks
Bring back HVGN :-).
Thanks!
Mmmm that new intro tho💕💕💕
You're my favorite game reviewer Derek. You turned me into a retro gaming fiend. Keep on keeping on dawg.
wow i did not know that you'r HVGN guy. no wonder you looked familiar.
i lockt it up and in my contry was 75 off and i bot it weth sam mony i had left over from bayng the konamy colections
At least the NES version of TaleSpin is better than the Megadrive/Genesis version. Man this version is soooo baaaaad! Well...I do like the music though.
doesn't seem worth the 20 bucks if two of the games aren't that great....i'll wait for a sale
As long as you never bring back NeckBone.
rescue rangers 2 is far and away the best game here
Tailspin is a good but hard game :)
The Happy Console Gamer welcomes back The Happy Video Game Nerd! :D
OMG JOHNNERS!
i always used to mix you guys up back in the day
Nintendos "The Little Mermaid" was a great game and I'm glad I can say I beat it without cheating.
I was an Irate Gamer fan myself
"Its HVGN again!"
then doesn't wear the brown shirt
see, that's how bad the lighting and compression were, it was a dark gray shirt not brown!
Damn, I promise I wasn't trying to be malicious with my comment, but I gotta give it to you, thats a good reply lol
I miss HVGN.. so this was a nice throwback :)
those videos are also know as the good ol' days
Good old days of UA-cam. Getting flashbacks. I'm drowning in nostalgia. HVGN kicked ass.
dustman: hey. come on, derek. i'm dust man. (shrug) just...........dust man. (shrug)
Gotta give it up for great level/stage music though :)
dust man: yeah man. i mean............dust man (shrug)
Don't be so hard on yourself, i rewatched a bunch of the HVGN videos recently and they're really entertaining.
Derrick, I love ya buddy, but Mega Man 4 is one of the best ones out there and my personal fave.
...Loved the video and that ending was golden.
"Dust Man you suck." It's like he's a vacuum cleaner or something!
Always loved the HVGN. Kinda sad that HVGN never got around to Super Turrican.
"it's like a 🍬 in a 🙌 store!".
No. Dust Man and his stage is awesome (music included).
Mega Man 4 doesn't suck at all, not even close. It is easily one of the best Mega Mans for the NES.
Dont be too down on yourself Derrick. Your older videos were still ahead of the curve back then. :)
I'm always happy to see a return to HVGN - SSFF is nice, but it's always cool to see a callback.
The Return of the HVGN!
I don't want to sound like a broken record in the comments, but I love the HVGN videos the best. 6 years later and it's STILL not on the Nintendo Switch. WHY!?!?!?!?
