      I'm actually surprised nobody in the show brought this up... I know that bringing the Ori to Pegasus would mess up the storytelling in the two separate shows but at least give us a silly one-line explanation.
      I do understand that since the Ori didn't know about the Milky Way, they also wouldn't know about Pegasus. And just by coming to the Milky Way, they still wouldn't learn about Pegasus. BUT the people Earth actually managed to dial the Supergate which was specifically designed to be dialed in from another galaxy. That should have been a massive clue to the Ori that there's a third galaxy in play.
      But thinking about it, I guess the scene right here could actually serve as an explanation - you need a significant amount of people believing in the Origin to have a proper effect. Since the Pegasus galaxy is mostly empty thanks to the Wraith, the Ori could have simply decided it's not worth it.

      @@Domihork Well the Ori were power crazed megalomaniacs. If they'd found out about the Pegasus galaxy even with the sparse human population I think they'd have tried to conquer it. They'd have had to fight the Wraith but that shouldn't have been a big problem for them. The Wraith only won the war with the Ancients because the Ancients were cocky and stupid, giving the Wraith a number of essential early victories. Fighting the Ori would likely go very badly for the Wraith. Once they were out of the picture, the Ori could then do the whole 'Convert or Die' schtick they'd been doing in the Milky way and let the humans spread back out and repopulate in a now relatively safe galaxy. The only Pegasus based faction I could think of that would pose a threat to the Ori would be the Asurans, but since they were so isolationist(until they were destroyed) and the Ori wouldn't have had any compunctions about bringing overwhelming military might to bear for the purpose of genocide, I think they'd have likely lost to the Ori as well.

      @@thundercricket4634 I think had their takeover of the Milky Way being successful, the Ori likely would have hit the Pegasus galaxy next. But I think targeting the Milky Way made more strategic sense. Because the Milky Way at this point in the series was fresh for the picking. With the recent collapse of the old Goa'uld power structure, as well as the devastation brought on by the Replicators which killed off most of the old Goa'uld leadership, millions of Tau'ri, thousands of Jaffa and weakened the Asgard, a massive power vacuum had formed and the political situation was both unstable and very much in flux. The Tau'ri, Tok'ra, Free Jaffa Nation and Lucian Alliance were the only factions that could stand to resist the oncoming Ori crusade, yet all of them were still getting their bearings and trying to consolidate power for themselves. There was no longer a single powerful political entity or oligarchy to effectively resist an invasion from a powerful outside force. Not to mention the Goa'uld having been cast off as gods by most of the galactic population meant there was now a gap for spirituality and religion in the galaxy, something which the Ori were able to easily exploit with their own brand of religion.

    I know it must be true that Ori doesn't share power but how do they know this?
    Aside from the philosophical conflicts they had with them millions of years ago, how can they know? If Ori grew by the number they would be much more powerful?
    Obviously they don't interact with them and hide their galaxies and people as well as their own existence from the Ori but how can they both hide and gain information about them? Ori are ascended too.. They would notice an intrusion or infiltration right? 😅

      Orlin explained it pretty clearly. If the Ori did ascend their followers.....the collective power they drained would be spread among many more. More ascended Ori = Less overall Ori collective power. It's why in Ark of Truth Morgan Le Fay couldn't take on Adria......Adria had ALL of their collective power an 1 Ancient wasn't gonna cut it.

    My theory is that the way the Ori drain "life force" from their followers is just like how the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who drain your life by sending you in the past: they basically just suck your potential for ascension, leaving you blueballed. When the followers worship the Ori, there's a sort of connection formed between the human and the ascendant being, which causes changes in the person's brain/mind, allowing the human to get closer to ascension (the monk in Kheb was almost worshiping Oma, so a sort of connection to her was established in some way), which increases one's "life force", which is essentially the ascension potential, and the Ori simply absorb that ascension. They're basically milking people's ability to ascend, like we milk cows for their milk or extract all honey from a beehive, leaving almost nothing for the animals.
    When Orlin mentioned that the Ori shifted to a more religious angle, what I think he meant is that during their research on Ascension, the Ori saw how much powerful they could become from extracting the ascension potential from mortal beings for themselves and decided to go for it at any cost, damn the consequences on lower life forms, while the Alterans, as shown in Ark of Truth, were against exploiting people for their own selfish gains and fiercely believed in free will.

    I mean the Ori couldnt simply walk in our Galaxy cuz they didnt want to start in open fight with the Ancients cuz neither side was sure of its victory.
    So the Ancient really needed to do some small twiks and effects here and there to fck up their Priors coming over the gate.
    Im pretty sure the Ori giving powers to humans to act as Priors is enough excuse for the Ancient to do a simillar thing and buff up people of their choosing yet they just drop info here and there.

      The Ancients didn't want to support the instigation of a religious war. If one was going to happen (and it did) then without their involvement. From their point of view, if the entire galaxy had been converted to Origin or razed to the ground, and they themselves be eviscerated by the Ori, that would still have been preferable to 'playing God'.

    I was so glad we got to see Orlin again in this episode. He was such an interesting character, and again in this episode he was able to give us some really valuable insight into how the Ancients work on the ascended plane - he said “it is unclear whether such action would lead to victory, nor would an endeavour at that level necessarily be the next best step to further enlightenment.” To me, this illustrates how selfish the Ancients are in their own right. They are more concerned with their path to enlightenment and beyond than anything else. The move to allow Orlin to descend was made under the assessment that the Ori would threaten their ‘journey’.

      No I disagree. He explained the risk of them becoming just like the Ori, and we’ve also seen - in plenty of other sci-fi - just how risky interference at their level might be. Entire civilisations wiped from existence, or cults of worship established in service to someone who isn’t a god but just seems like one.
      I know it’s cheap but we as non-ascended humans can’t understand all the reasons why they shouldn’t interfere, and that’s okay.

    • @lexysraymont9627
      @lexysraymont9627 2 роки тому +3

      @@Ragitsu Clearly not. I "blame" @Jaike because he misunderstands the Ancient's philosophy.
      They do not whish to interfere because now they are above the course of events of the material Universe. Interfering would be transforming the natural flow of reality to their own willing, which is total megalomania.
      Plus, interfering into material life would bring adoration towards them, would they wish it or not. But, adoration is freedom-killing and they would take at least a part of people's free will. Which would be all in contradiction with the anti-religion philosophy of the Ancient (and stargate franchise).
      I think, but it is a personal interpretation, that those who don't understand the Ancient's choice to not interfere are more religious people than those who could find it understandable.
      And, enlightenment isn't just a question of greater power or more knowledge. It is also a question of wisdom. So my interpretation of Orlin's is that the Ancient are not sure it is the wisest path to take. I base this interpretation on other discussions during the series, like with Ganos Lal and Moros.
      Finally, reality is the total contrary to what you're saying : the Ancient are so little selfish that they are ready to face extinction so they would not break natural's laws and free will.
      'I hope I've succeded in convincing you, Thor says.'

    The one bit I never really understood is that belief made them stronger, they had an entire galaxy of people worshipping them. They are ascended just like the Ancients, but they don't have the necessary power to wipe out the Ancients even though they apparently outnumber the Ancients and have extra power that the Ancients don't have. I mean if they are "more powerful" then shouldn't they already be strong enough?
    Plus the weapon (later) doesn't make any sense. It's purpose is to destroy ascended beings. But the Ori and the Ancients are on the same plane of existence, and "distance" doesn't really matter to ascended beings since they can go anywhere whenever they want in no time at all. So shouldn't the weapon have worked on all of them instead of just the group in that one galaxy?
    Just some bits that they never really explained but should've.

    • @Bearmauls
      @Bearmauls 2 роки тому +4

      I think this was addressed in some ways, although not super clearly and directly. The Ori galaxy is a significant distance from the Milky Way, much further than Pegasus or Ida. And the beings who have ascended aren't all-knowing and all-powerful, just more knowing and powerful. Distances still do matter in some respects. The Ancients were hiding/shielding their existence and the existence of humans in the Milky Way (and probably Pegasus as well, although there are a lot less humans in Pegasus for obvious reasons). The Ori only became aware of them after Daniel and Vala 'visited' the Ori galaxy. So Ascended beings aren't automatically aware of everything. I don't find it necessarily problematic to believe that there is some sort of distance-analog in the higher planes. The Ori are in one area (corresponding to where their followers are) and the Ancients are in another, in terms of Merlin's weapon effect.
      The Ancients are also 'established' in the Milky Way, presumably there is a sort of home-turf advantage in that they were able to prevent the Ori from exerting their will directly on the lower planes within the Milky Way. And the Ori are probably more powerful, but they also seem to be very selfish. Why risk themselves in a confrontation with the Ancients on the higher planes when they can use their expendable servants to subvert the Milky Way first? Make the eventual battle that much easier, it's not like they're in a rush, and it doesn't seem like the Ancients will really do that much to prevent their invasion on the lower planes.

    • @andyl8055
      @andyl8055 2 роки тому +2

      I don’t think we can arbitrarily state that ascended beings are everywhere, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to interact with things on a local level or appear as something perceptible. It seems reasonable to believe the Ori are concentrated in their galaxy, the Ancients in the Milky Way, and they’re far enough away from each other that they can’t perceive each other.

    • @Korohpu
      @Korohpu 2 роки тому

      I believe there was also a philosophical nature to the Ori's actions. They wanted to prove to the Ancients that their way (playing God) is definitely superior to that of the Ancients (noninterference), and they chose to do so by snatching the Milky Way right unde their noses and powering up so much that they can flick the Ancients away without worry (which is just another kind of immortality - for all we know, with the sole exception of Merlin's weapon, other ascended beings are the only thing that can harm an ascended).
      It really ties into the same theme that the Goa'uld had: that the arrogance (and in particular the fear of death and subsequent obsession with immortality) of those who would play God is ultimately their greatest weakness.

      I don't have a theory to answer the A part of your question, but as for the outnumbering their enemy part: however many ori ascended wayback their numbers haven't changed in millions of years due to their own greed whereas the ranks of the ancients continue to grow and grow I would say based on the evidence presented throughout SG-1 and Atlantis the ancients probably outnumber the Ori at this point in time
      🤔 actually I think this theory answers the A part of your question itself, and why the Ori tried to use Merlin's weapon to wipe out the ancients rather than fight them monoamano never did understand that part of the storyline it seemed like a curveball away from their plan but maybe this answers that question
