    Hey Brad.
    We ran into a Toyota Hilux with a camper trailer stuck on the beach. I thought there was no way my wheezy 3.6 Overland would pull it out and the tide was coming in fast. Tried to snatch it out in 4H Sand mode with no luck at all so I raised it to OR2 put it 4L and sand mode and it pulled it out easy. I was very impressed and the Hilux owner was a little surprised he'd been rescued by a Jeep of all things.
    Jeeps are not very well loved Down Under in Australia, especially by Toyota and Nissan drivers......

    Another great video Brad. You’re spot on with your assessment of the different modes. I’m kinda surprised to see the Chief sump guard bend like that but then again you were literally flying. That’s the exact one I got, as far as I could tell the heavier duty one doesn’t come with the opening for the oil filter. Maybe after they see this video they’ll start offering it. Keep up the great work and stay safe out there guys! It was great to see Norah being so into it and using all the terminology and Caleb did great with the drone as always.

    Select terrain gives the computer different set parameters that it can use to anticipate actions in the power train in relation to speed, braking power, and torque/power. It tweaks responsiveness. Sand mode is meant to be faster, mud slower, rocks even slower. Sport mode even throws more power to the rear to simulate rear wheel drive. You seem to have researched well!

  • @richiet5914
    @richiet5914 3 роки тому

    Hey Brad, nice video. Agree its hard getting a definitive answer for what each mode does. From what I read and my experience sand mode raises the shift point between gears and is a little more aggressive in stopping wheel spin. I believe mud mode allows the spinning wheel to spin for a brief time to throw the mud out of the treads. I found the jeep to feel a little squirrelly in mud and I think this might explain it. Snow mode, like you said, starts in 2nd gear and I think the BTC is set more like a low bias LSD to maintain control. I would really like to find a definitive answer but for now, that's my story and I'm sticking with it lol.

    Appreciate that mode test driving. More is better for all of us GC owners. Manual and dealer instructions not that helpful. Snow mode is best example for misunderstanding! My dealer told me this is for snow covered roads. Okay, but using this while you‘re stuck in a snow covered parking lot you getting no where.
    Using GC for towing is even seperate series. We tow a 28ft camper trailer and i remember couple of situations i know what would help me but not which mode reflects this EVEN what doesn‘t make it worse (talking about lifting and traction control).
    What will be helpful having at least situation examples it is good for as well some that it isn‘t for - i did some everyday life instructions my self for me and my wife. It would be boring missing the nail with this wonderful tool. But to get a deep understanding it would be helpful if manual has some more details what is exactly done in which mode but this requires understanding of course.
    So for now only testdriving, learning and exchange experiences is the way to go. Thank you!

    An interesting test to augment what you have done.. is to slowly approach a steepish sand hill in Sand Mode....this models what happens when you lose speed on a sand incline.... in Sand Mode the software will stop the wheels from spinning (so you don't dig in).... and as part of this will ultimately cut power to the point that you can't move up the incline (you can of course roll back).. this shows where the Sand limit is.. the functional response I describe is with the electronically locking rear diff option

    For next sand adventure it would be interesting to show recovery when totally stuck.
    Somebody wrote a comment about shoveling. It is useless in sand. All you need to do is to hardly shake by hands the car from side to side (with the help of the passengers😊). It will emerge itself from sand. I learned this surprising technique in Sahara when we managed to recover a LC in less than 1 minute.
