    Great tips! Thank you. Got 3 terra cotta pots today and some sealer. Wow is the sealer expensive! Got spray sealer to start with until I can get the bigger one.

      Thanks heaps, the spray sealer can be expensive I prefer to use the paint on one because its better value and I feel you get a better coverage as well. :)

    Love it!! How can i seal pots without a sealer what products can be used?

    • @TreasuryRoad

      Thankyou, you can use a mixture of Weldbond and water being 1 to 5 parts and apply liberally all over inside and out, but really and actual sealer or a waterproofing membrane is better.

    Where can I buy those flower petals with laminate?
    Are the stained glass?

      Thankyou, the petals I made with stained glass and put a overlaminate on top of them to keep them together. I made a video on that product. ua-cam.com/video/hzWmqWZHGOc/v-deo.html The ceramic hearts I made as well and they were fired in a kiln. :)

    If you do not like silicon, why did you use it?

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  2 роки тому

      Its more I don't like the residue that it leaves behind and it can get everywhere. Silicone is useful when adhering mirror down because you can get some silicones that are neutral curing so it doesn't effect the reflective backing. It can also come in handy if you are wanting to adhere bulky pieces. I generally use other adhesives 95% of the time however it does have its uses. :)

      Hi Mozhdeh, If you are referring to the mosaic tape, you can buy that from WitsEnd Mosaics in the USA. :)

    was looking into sealing pots and came across your video, would like to know what sealer brand you used (might have missed it during the video as i'm not native english), and do you reckon that it might be good to seal some pots that will be used as a water feature instead of plants, meaning they will be all the time wet?
    Thanks in advance.

      Thankyou, I seal any terracotta and concrete as both are porous especially terracotta. The sealer I used was Bondall Ornament sealer, it may not be available in your country but there are so many sealers it wont be difficult to buy one, just make sure its suitable for the pots that you are sealing. The Bondall I used is not suitable for substrates that are continually under water. so you would need to find something like a pond or water feature sealer. :)

      Thanks for replying so fast.
      I am trying to find something in UK that does the same. But even if it doesn't completely seals the pots, at least it will give that shinny look, I hope. If it doesn't seal properly, I will just paint the inside of the bottom pot (which will hold the most water) with a waterproof paint.

    Hi there, I would like to paint terracotta pots. Would acrylic paint be ok to use on top of the Bondall Pot and Ornamental Sealer, please? Also need to find a clear gloss sealer on top of the acrylic paint. What would you suggest? Thank you in advance! :)

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Jo Jo, you would need to have look at the Bondall website and check out their data sheets on the product to see what they recommend or give them a call. I have never painted a pot or applied a sealer over the top of a painted pot, I think you will find paint will fade outside in the sun even with a sealant.

      @@TreasuryRoad Thank you for your reply. I think I will just have to do some experiments. Sorry, I should have mentioned that the pots will be indoors and I want something to protect the acrylic paint. Going to good ol' Bunnings tomorrow for a quick look. Cheers!

    Where do get those flowers and hearts tiles

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  4 роки тому +2

      I made them, the hearts are ceramic and you need a kiln and the flowers are made from stained glass.

    Hi Peter, could you please tell me what the clear silicone adhesive that you're using is? I can see Sika brand but not the product name. I couldn't find it in my local Bunnings (NZ) and they had never heard of such a thing when I asked 🙄. They said there's either clear silicone or building adhesive but not both. So confused, please help!

      Hi Robbi, I cant remember what the product was but it would have been left over from a project I did around the house and I used it as I was just sticking a few pieces to the terracotta and I wanted it to be clear, it may not even be made anymore. On my outdoor pieces 98% of the time I use a cement based adhesive, at times I use silicone if I have some left over but Im not keen on using silicone as they are generally quite toxic hence their hazard signs on them especially using long term as they continue to give off a chemical reaction whilst curing. Some people do use silicone and some use construction adhesives for me as I said earlier I prefer to use a cement based adhesive. If you need to use a silicone type product then have a look at the Soudal range as they are a SMX polymer they are not near as toxic, I think Sika has a MS product range as well which is in NZ. As always read the manufactures safety data sheets and technical data sheets before purchasing any product to ensure its suitable for the job you are doing, they are easy to read and available on the manufactures website. It can be a little confusing but there's more than one way to do a project and everyone has their preferences of materials. :)

      @@TreasuryRoad Thank you so much for sharing your information with me, I really appreciate it! I had no idea the silicone was so toxic. Definitely good to know. Will check out Soudal if I need to use it. I did see Sikasil roof & gutter in one of your other videos yesterday, so maybe it was that? Thank you for your videos too, I'm learning so much from them!

      @@RedRoses4612 Thankyou Robbi, the silicone could have been that, I'm just not sure as its not something I tend to use very much at all. :)

    If you're sealing the inside then how does the plant have moisture wicking and be able to dry out?

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  4 роки тому +1

      If you're just sealing the inside of the pot the plant wont dry out as much, excess water can still be drained from the hole in the bottom. Water can still be absorbed from the bottom of the pot or from areas that have not been mosaiced from the outside can compromise the mosaic because terracotta is so porous if the outside is not sealed as well. Depends if you're trying to retain moisture for the plant or stop moisture from effecting your mosaic. :)

    • @lindafreudiger8022

      Well I sealed a terra cotta inside and out and my plant died because the soil never dried out from the very first watering so I guess your not going to use the pot for real plants.

    Hi! Can I use gesso as the sealer for pots?

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  4 роки тому

      I wouldn't have thought so as its main purpose from what I understand is priming canvas but I have never used it. I would be inclined to use a sealer that is meant for terracotta to ensure its suitable as you will be mosaicking on to it and you dont want it to fail. :)
