Catching the replay this morning. Great talk as always Sim. Peep this, I missed the live show last night because I was at a work/dinner. One of the guys I work with wife was there and she went to Miami Ohio University at the same time Ben was there. We had a good time talking last night about Ben and the Steelers. 😁
BCritic , I understand Steelers History... It happens... Back to the LAB....
No adjustment A. Smith? Predictable A. Smith? Stale play calling A. Smith? I was hoping that he got a head coaching job. The wrs coach needs to go. None of the wrs have a route tree and none of the wrs come back to rescue the QB. Also the wrs don't continue to move while looking at the QB to receive the ball. That's what they are, receivers. My gracious!!!
A Hard Look at Art Rooney II: When Do Steelers Fans Hold Ownership Accountable?
At what point do Steelers fans stop blaming Mike Tomlin and start pointing the finger at Art Rooney II (ARII) for the team’s postseason struggles? For years, the fanbase has interpreted “The Standard is the Standard” as a commitment to winning championships. But in reality, that phrase has always been about maintaining a blue-collar identity-one rooted in the smash-mouth football of the 1970s. That identity, reinforced by ARII’s decisions and philosophy, has dictated the Steelers’ style of play for decades, for better or worse.
The Steelers have long been known for stability, almost to a fault. This organization does not fire coaches. They kept Chuck Noll well past his prime. They let Bill Cowher walk rather than pay him what he was worth. And yet, year after year, fans flood social media demanding that ARII fire Tomlin, as if history suggests that’s ever going to happen. The Steelers are conservative in their approach, both in personnel and in philosophy, and the results have shown it-consistently good, but never great when it matters most.
For those who complain that the Steelers’ offense and defense are outdated, you don’t have to look far to understand why. The organization has been saying the same things for decades. The decision not to renew Bruce Arians' contract after the 2011 season? That wasn’t Tomlin’s call-it was ARII’s. Per reports, ownership let Arians walk because they wanted to return to their "blue-collar identity.” Despite the NFL shifting toward high-powered passing attacks, the Steelers' leadership remained stuck in the past. Even as recently as this year, ARII doubled down, stating, "I still think that running the ball is a route to success."
Ownership, not the head coach, has dictated this franchise’s philosophy for decades. From Cowher to Tomlin, the Steelers have adhered to the same principles: run the ball, play defense, and avoid big financial risks. The problem is, the league has changed. Teams like the Commanders, with new ownership under Josh Harris, have shown the value of stepping back and letting football minds make football decisions. Maybe it’s time for ARII to take a similar approach.
The Steelers aren’t struggling in the postseason because of Tomlin alone. They’re struggling because the man at the top refuses to evolve. Until that changes, expect more of the same-good enough to compete, but never great enough to win it all.
I been saying it for years now steelers are not winning another superbowls until art2 is gone.
Don't forget Tomlin
@@deew5012Tomlin does more with less than any coach and where we had a good team Ben killed us with his turnovers
@@QuickHittinEmlol stop it
Elkhart got fired
Art said a bunch of nothin. Cool with mediocre coaching. Noll coached 23 years never went more than 4 seasons without a playoff win. Cowher 15 years never went more than 3 years without a playoff. Tomlin just finished his 18th season and had his 8th consecutive season without a playoff win. 🤦♂️
So you just have to Playoff appearances, okay?
@wildboz27 proofreading before pressing send is key. I can't understand mumbo jumbo
Mediocrity will continue.....😢
