Dame Sybil Hathaway really showed her power on Sark when the Germans invaded. She totally put them into their place. At the owner/lead person on the island, the Germans came to see her. She strategically placed herself at her desk so that the German officers had to walk to her. She was surprised that they wiped their feet before entering her home. She was also related by marriage to one of the senior officers and as such, her orders were followed to the letter. When the senior officer's relative passed away, she sent condolences to him and his family which further raised her power. One of her favourite sayings to any NCO or junior office was 'WHO IS YOUR SUPERIOR?' She was classed as a heroine (shero??) by so many people, including my mum who was only young when WWII started.

Agreed. The rest of the info, the historical details, were useful. But yes- that was a massive blunder and definitely demonstrates just how much historical revisionism is still endemic in the culture of the OG colonizers/occupiers/genociders.

@@alicem2103 @alicem2103 The British are not the OG colonizers, the British were colonized themselves, by the Vikings, and romans over a thousands years before Britain ever colonized another country. There were also many Empires from Asia that predate the British, the British were just more technologically advanced and better considering they came from a more recent time in history. Besides The roman empire reigned over Britain for 400 years commited genocides all over England. why would the Brits have any sympathy over something they conquered from the Romans (Their former colonizers) And you also have to remember they got the marbles from the ottoman empire who originally stole them from Greece.

In England, the Dunkirk evacuation has been framed by Churchill as a heroic achievement in order to lift the English spirits. But the fact of the matter is that the German commanders were still a bit civilised at the time and were loathe to take on hundreds of thousands of prisoners of war. It was still deemed "not done" to slaughter 400.000 vanquished soldiers. If it had happened in 1943, these English soldiers would all have been dead or enslaved in factories. There's also the factor of Hitler's admiration for the English people. He was quite shocked that they declared war on him in September 1939.

Something awful in me says.. if invited to participate in a documentary on THIS topic ... I would do some double checking and get things right and clear. I would call it due diligence.
