Take a look at house prices and mortgages. If you personally were a ‘ business ‘ and had one customer ( your employer) why would you be daft enough to take out a mortgage for hundreds of thousands? Not a very good business plan , you’d want more customers as back up and security. The banks arnt bothered any way as while your paying your mortgage and default they repo your house and keep or sell it . I am Canadian. They closed bank accounts without it going through Parliament to punish those who had financially contributed to the trucker convoy. It was originally a legal protest and then the federal government decided it wasn't. If you were locked into using your bank machine card and paying your bills through it, you were absolutely financially cut off. This can so easily be abused, I know, I watched it happen.

All great except how did the county council know what shop I used the most with my debit card. Did the bank give this information and what else would they give if asked. Other friends have theirs for other shops according to were they shop.

My method of pushing back is simple - i) add them to a 'boycott list' on my phone, and ii) leave a review of Google Maps explaining why I won't be going there again. If enough people do this, businesses will start to get the message.

Has anyone considered how this will affect tourism? Consider this, you come from the USA with your American credit card. Everything you use it you will be either directly or indirectly paying an additional fee for using it at a poor exchange rate. For visitors this is a lose, lose situation. Unless the government's want to lose visitors then stick with the current cash/card options.
Digital money could be anonymous with encryption for example, like a physical calculator style wallet, you wouldn't need a bank, that would be good, or bad like how they want 2 tier system where public could be micro-monitored but important people get lasse' faire treatment which is cosy and overlooked, we have obligations to keep using Cash
