  • Southern Ports’ Port of Albany now enjoys enhanced towage capability with Svitzer Australia investing in newer, younger, stronger and more efficient tugs at the Port. The Svitzer Maryon and Svitzer Karoline are RAMPART ASD 3000’s with 66 tonne bollard pull, enhanced firefighting equipment and emergency towage capability - providing a big jump in performance to support shipping within the Port. Tugs play a vital role within our ports, working closely with the Southern Ports marine team to welcome more than 160 visiting vessels in 2023 and supporting the Port of Albany to achieve its trade record of 5.5 million tonnes.
The new tugs are part of Svitzer’s ongoing investment in maritime infrastructure across Australia - including regional Australia. The Karoline and Maryon boast a combined firefighting capability of 1200 metre cubed water per hour and increase towage pull of more than 50 per cent - allowing for safer, more flexible and efficient harbour towage and emergency response. The Karoline and Maryon replace the Svitzer Koona and Karoo - which have both been sold after more than 14 years of dedicated service to Albany (after arriving in 2011).
