    I really like this kit for so many reasons. This kit took us three years to get here. This is basically the generation 4 in our 3-in kit and it does require a little more skill. Because right here at the house you have to be able to cut the Riser. We do have a 3-in kit where you just connect the 3-in pipe right to the leaf filter and that's the easiest for a DIYer but if you're handy with tools I really recommend this kit.

    I didn’t know you were in Shelby Township. Wish I knew that when I lived downstate. I’ll have to hit you up for parts when I’m downstate next time. I have a 80ft long barndo that I need to drain off all gutter water to one end plus all the water that comes downhill towards my house. I’m not sure the best solution but I’m sure you’ll have one for me. 👍

    Received my 3" pro kit yesterday and it's a great kit. After straitening out the pipe and letting it sit over night in my backyard I pulled it out to my front yard downspout just to see roughly where I'm going to be digging before I start. My next-door neighbor walks out of his garage and immediately makes a beeline to me. I showed him the whole kit and he was very impressed. You just may have another customer. I have a question, after you talked about the catch basin in this vid. No closer than 3 feet for the catch basin or are there exceptions to be closer? Also, is there any type of pipe fitting that would allow the pop-up (just the top green piece.) to sit at a angle to allow for installation on a slope/hill? If not, maybe that should be your next R&D.

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  Місяць тому

      I like the catch basin; three feet are closer, so it can be two feet off the house. I’m happy with it being really close because you’re going to grab the shingle gravel, and it’s not going to contaminate any part of the system.
      The pop-up in your kit is already at an angle. That’s why I named it “NOT QUITE A 90°.”
      Thank you for your business!
      I appreciate your commenting and sharing.

  • @a_a_ron1872
    @a_a_ron1872 Місяць тому

    @French Drain Man, Would you consider connecting downspouts into a French drain system acceptable if you put the catch basins to help catch any shingle gravel? Or do you always require a downspout system to be a totally separate line than the French drain?

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  Місяць тому

      That's a bad thing to do. If you're going to do something that ill-advised, you'd better install a knife cut pipe in that French drain. It'll help you, but it's still going to give that French drain an early expiration date.

    I just bought this pro kit... however the double wall extension below the leaf filter is black, so you see white leaf catcher and then black pipe. Should have the option for white double wall in this kit.

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  3 місяці тому

      They do not make white double-walled [wall]. We used to put in white single-walled [wall], but someone complained that we cheapened the kit and gave us a bad review.

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  2 місяці тому +1

      Duct tape is ineffective. We dig it up frequently; it is one of the reasons why many drains fail. I would not recommend it. It will be a weak point.
      Yes, just solid pipe with good plumbing tape. You will not need to use copper sulfate.

    I've been looking at hooking on to my underground downspout that currently terminates in the yard to an NDS popup emitter with your white pipe and running it another 25 feet to the end of the property / subdivision road. Have you done this with your new emitter, what I would like to do is have it setup so that the water runs over into the concrete gutter and flow into the normal storm drains further down. I wasn't sure with the green turf plate around it would if the water would make it over the curb. I had thought about putting it in the landscaping (rock) around the mailbox to remove it completely from the yard, but didn't want to turn it into a pool :) PS maybe not this video, but my NDS emitter is just what you described hard to find and grown over.

    Any recommendations for trenching in rocky soil? I’m working on installing my 3” kit now. The hardest part is the rocky clay soil here in St Louis area which requires a lot of pickaxing to trench. I’m jealous of your Michigan loam!

    For a popup, when there's no slope on the lawn, and you need to create a slope with the pipe itself, leaving a deep end where the popup is, how do you connect when the pipe is deeper than the 90deg on the popup?
    Thanks

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  4 місяці тому +1

      We don't. It's a terrible idea to try to get a slope on a line where there is no slope in the yard and on the grade. We will run it 50 feet away from the house to find a drop somewhere. You accomplish nothing when you put a slope on the line on a flat yard where the pop-up has to have a ridiculous number of risers to get to daylight; it literally accomplishes nothing because water seeks its own level. If you want your downspout lines to be dry, you have to put in an outdoor sump pump system and lift the water to daylight in a flat yard or keep running the line to you find drop even if that drop is 50ft away.

    I have watched quite a few of your videos now and plan to buy your products. I have a big water problem and basically a swamp at the bottom of my yard, partly due to how much water comes over from my neighbors two downspouts that are only about 8’ from our fence and all that water from their extra garage and driveway comes our way. If I draw up a design based on your videos for downspout to pop ups with catch basins, and for a sump pump down at the bottom of the yard to pump out to the road, how much to look it over from a consulting point of view? Once I have a solid design (all parts determined) I can get three local bids for installation. I live in Florida.

      We have a couple more if neither service your area.

    What makes that white pipe different from your yellow or blue pipe?

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  4 місяці тому +2

      The yellow has been discontinued. The white has replaced the yellow. The white has a higher flow rate and is heavy-duty. The blue is extra heavy-duty for vehicle traffic.

    Can you give me a video to send my contractor he says that my 3" pro pipe is the same as the black pipe but thinner that ads is more heavy duty and that the it's the same pipe made be ADS because of the green stripe and I have to agree about the stripe cuz even though I never knew anything about pipe before looking into things I thought the same thing when I seen the stripe. I know that you sell good quality and spent a lot of money from your system to everything else to install thatI know better but do you have a video that I can send him to prove him wrong. I have your new 3" (white) pro pipe

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  20 днів тому

      That is a heavy-duty pipe made by ADS. It is not thin like their recycled pipe, that is, in the big box stores. Home Depot will sell you thin, recycled 3" pipe for $119 a coil. I chose to do business with them when they had proven a top-quality all-virgin material 3-inch plus size, corrugated pipe. Unfortunately, Baughman Tile Company made their EXTRA heavy-duty pipe undersized for 3" corrugated pipe standards. We are no longer recommending Baughman Tile 3" pipe and are currently clearing out the small amount we have left in inventory. Your contractor's misleading comments are a direct indication of his lack of knowledge in this industry.
      Thank you for your business. And I hope you find a more suitable contractor. 🫠

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN

      We bump it up to a 4" line if we're going to share it with the sump pump discharge line, just so that we don't have any issues during heavy rain events. If it's just a sump pump discharge line, all by itself, 3 inches is more than enough.
