The 318 being underated has won me lots of 💰 at my local track.
Stock mopar 318 out of a Chrysler. Got myself some 1968 heads, ported (crudely) swapped/reversed the pistons, stock valves, stock pushrods. Tossed it in a 74 Duster and would just raise the hood and wait for the big ego Chevy guys to walk over. My dad and I called it "fishing from the bank". Motor was stock, looked stock (save for the aftermarket canshaft) and we just kept the reversed pistons to ourselves... Not that anyone really knew or understood about that trick. Wouldn't take long before one would crack a joke with a silly smirk. That's when i knew i had em.
Then id be like "Well, you race for money?" Answers would range from "i race for pinkslips but I wouldn't have a MOPAR bla bla bla" to "I dont wanna take your money" or "it aint worth changing my spark plugs".
Then I'd pull cash from my pocket and say "how about $500?" Novas, Camaros, Chevelles, all with this and that, big egos and small brains..
Would embarrass them... Gapped em and slapped em. Running low 7's. Was always the Nova guys that were first. Then the Camaro guys with the big blocks. . they were even easier. Usually they would red line. But they would over do it.. By the time they got traction I was already halfway down the track.. Then would come Chad Thunder C*** with the nitrous set up that would almost always lose traction soon as he hit the bottle while seeing my tail lights and the word
    "P l y m o u t h" as i passed.
I miss those days.. A lesson them ol boys never seemed to learn.. "More is not always better"... Lol, daddy and I would have to wait another few weeks for a different bunch to show up on test and tune night..
And we loved fishin from the bank. 😝 damn i miss that old Duster.

Shit that didn't happen for 300 Alex. You probably had a duster you might have even won a race or two but the rest is bull shit of the highest order. 7's? Stock 318? Even eighth mile that's not happening. Not from a stock 318 that's too weak to spin the tires on the street.

    • @Timman57
      @Timman57 3 роки тому +6

@@TL-angzarr now what kind of good is it gonna do you to fight someone over something that you weren't there to see? Everytime I make a comment on youtube, there is always someone out there trying to say, "bullshit" and sound smart, but there isn't a way to prove anyone right or wrong, so no one ever actually wins. I was pulling 8.9's in the 1/8th with a fully dressed 86 foxbody with only mods being headers, some DOT slicks, and 4.10 gears. It is entirely believable that a stripped down duster with a spiced up 318 and some spray with the right tire could be doing high 7's in the 1/8th. But no one can ACTUALLY prove it, so just move on guy, if you really want to do something just hit the thumbs down and move on. There's too many people out there spreading negativity.

@@Timman57 What good does it do you to lie on the internet? Any who actually knows knows what runs what and stock garbage modified 318's don't run 11's. Even then it's a rare night that someone is running around with 100 bucks to bet in their wallet let alone 500. The guys who carry that sort of cash know what cars run. You might have got some punter to race you for 50 bucks but 500? Consistently? No didn't happen. So why you lying in the internet? What's more likely, you had a magic duster that started as a 15 second car that you turned into an 11 second car by mangling the ports and swapping the pistons around then went around smashing big blocks with it or that you are in the youtube comments telling porkies. Tell me which is more likely.

Man, 318s are like the kings of the low displacement smallblocks. 5.0Ls are nice for the aftermarket on them, chevy 305s breath like an asthmatic with a choking fetish but they dont fucking quit (I've got an '87tbi without rings, valve seals, and the occasional heating problem I've been _trying_ to run into the ground ...for a year), olds 307s are ...weird but kinda cool and you dont see them very often, but Mopar always built their engines to be *torque happy* and *over built.* A little boost or some spray and your pushing out dummy thiccc numbers

    • @christianmotley262

I guess you're not old enough to remember the high compression small displacement engines like Chevrolet 302, 327s, Oldsmobile 330s, Buick 300 and 340s, Pontiac 326, Mopar 340s, Ford 289s and 302s, AMC 304s etc

    • @-OokySpooky-
      @-OokySpooky- 3 роки тому +1

@@christianmotley262 I'm actually building a 327 Chevy to replace that 305!! Sadly it's not a small journal, but it still counts I guess. I'm a big fan of the LA 318s soley due to them being dirt cheap, everywhere, and most importantly the stock LA head's were unrivaled due to the *angles* of the ports - especially the exhaust. Which means they respond to cam swaps and other upgrades right off the bat. A simple port job saves you from needing new performance head's unless you wanna go big with em. But then that's not the point anymore. 318s are the Kings of the low displacement smallblocks bc any joke can get a summit cam, new rods, cheapo headers, and a port job and blow the fucking doors off things well above it's weight class. Same story as the Mopar LA 340 "giant killer" which granted had a fair amount of differences but was actively gunning for +400ci big blocks

@@-OokySpooky- did you guys get Cleveland 302's apart from the boss 302? Our little 302 closed chambers ran around 2-210 CFM untouched at .500" and can be raised fairly easily by installing 4v valves.
4v boss 302 heads were 250ish CFM at .500" we had the 302 Cleveland here for about fifteen years I think the us got it for four so was super popular in Australia.
From memory Mopar X heads are around 215 CFM which was one of there best casting.

Good deal. I’ve never seen a 318 that ran good. I’ve never ran nitrous either seen many engines blown up by it though 😂 I guess if you don’t know what you’re doing with it and don’t have the bottom end to handle it it’s probably better left alone
