Small towns really need more visitors. Far too many travellers rush on past. There has been a distinct lack of lolly shops. Every town needs a lolly shop.
Hahaha let's hope the 'alternative' Route 66 in Australia gets momentum 🤣 We loved our Route 66 road trip. We picked up our van in LA. First stop Santa Monica pier. Then on our way to Barstow there was a minor car collision right in front of us. We just managed to avoid it. Otherwise we may not have done Route 66.
I've only recently come across your channel and really love your style and sense of humour. What a great couple of gals!! Travel safe and keep smiling ❤
And thanks from me, pleasant easy viewing. The highway busier than I thought, and the Narrandera memorial garden, as good as anywhere. Keep doing what you do,
@@colleenoliver2673 it was a bit fresh to start then the weather warmed up nicely. Totally agree the grapevine would look amazing in summer (and spring and autumn). It's on our list to revisit when it has grapes.
Classic take on one of my well-worn routes: the wobbly Newell! I'll be heading back down that way again in a couple of months. Ah yes, the blue hole in New Mexico... I swam in there too! And then got some awful tummy bug after that! 🤢 Another great vid you two 😍
Hahahaha wobbly Newell. We are trialling out different vlog style videos. We are happy to hear you like it. Oh thats no good (getting a tummy bug). We loved the Blue Hole. We stayed in a little park not far from there which we loved and was cheap.
Enjoy the really interesting places you travel to and sometimes the small towns can offer the best. Anyway, as much as I like the chick's in G strings on beaches, it's great to get a good view of these places and facts.
There is nought wrong with the chicks in g strings each to their own, however we have absolutely loved meeting people and from someone who in a social situation is quite introverted this is a big thing, Gay has the gift of the gab when meeting people, I am not the same as her but the small towns and the people make you feel so welcome it really is great.
Thanks for the tour, Ladies ❤️ so beautiful and well maintained. Surprise there were not a lot of people around enjoying the nice sunny days. Really enjoyed this video. 👍😁
We appreciate the awesome feedback. We were not sure how the video would turn out. We would like to do more like this. We are trialling different ways and see what happens 😜 The artesian baths at Moree were very busy. Apart from that it was very quiet.
@@GayandCarol you'll see us in our restored 1982 Viscount being towed behind my 1996 GQ Patrol. I was only in Parkes the week before you went thru... those fields of canola were amazing!
We're planning on taking our Canter and trailer up Kempsey way to visit my cousin early next year. We normally head over the Blue Mountains via the Putty Road and Armidale overnight, but the Newell looks like a bit of fun for something different. Been keen on visiting 'The Dish' for ages (we are both nerdy engineers 🙄) and camping somewhere nearby. Thanks for sharing some fun ideas. The caravan rollover accident isn't fun - gets us back to your comments about towing at the absolute capacity limit of the tow vehicle. It's way too easy for the tail to wag the dog. Cheers, from another couple of Melbourne gals.
It was our first time on the Newell Hwy. Overall the road is ok. A little bit of road works along the way. Some rolling hills. We took our time. Some other people we know did it in 3 days. Towing a caravan needs a lot of concentration. The rollover we saw was an older 2wd sedan with a small vintage caravan. It happened just before the peak of a hill. The caretaker at the showgrounds spoke to the fire department and they said it was pure luck that nobody was hurt. And also had no idea how it happened 🤷.
Hi, gay; great video. I know what to feed Carol now is crumb steak and her favourite salad with beetroot. Carol, you know you could beet a egg, but you can't beat a 😉
Well, I see the Toc blowhole really blows 🤣 They even made you walk down to see that 🤔... It's a good thing about the wind. A good fuel-saving measure.
Hey Mat, the blowhole did blow lol. Nothing ventured nothing gained though we now know. The wind seriously is a learning experience since heading off the Newell all good though. Cheer Carol
Check out Big Oz Explorer and sparky,s on the loose. They have been to some great places and great videos. It is better to go slowly and get there. Stuff others. Get head socks, with a beannies. Gloves. Old woolen blankets and make Viking cloaks to sit around the fire, and get a fire reflector. Harry too expensive but check out fire to fork.
Hey Rusty (is this your name?) thanks for the tips. We don't have much longer on the road for this trip. The weather has been much nicer. We like your idea about the viking cloaks. That sounds awesome and something to work on over summer. We spoke about getting a fire reflector before we left however we did not have time. We have spoken about Harry's. We will have a look around over summer and hopefully get something for next winter.
Great idea. We stretched out our trip along the Newell. Because we had a few days before the legends started. Yes the DISH still operates. You can hear it whirring. Someone said you can tour the dish but only on open days 🤷 We don't know what are open days. WooHoo Legends 2026 in Victoria 🎉

We are on our way back to Victoria - slowly. We still feel like we are going in the wrong direction. Everyone seems to be going in all different directions. We are sure we will catch up one day. We love the quirky. Its what Route 66 is all about (most of). We find more quirky in smaller towns which we prefer. And the smaller towns that are doing it well have a much better community. Hahaha how awesome would that be an explosion of popularity. 😂
Thanks Gay and Carol enjoyed the clip and seeing all the sights in NSW . Keep up the great work ! 👍👍🍻🍻
Thanks Mark. We enjoyed travelling the Newell Hwy. 😀
Many have driven this road. Too few have stopped long enough to enjoy it. Including me. Thanks ladies.
