IMPORTANCE OF THE DIAGNOSIS OF ORTHOGNATHIC, MAXILLOFACIAL AND OROFACIAL SURGERY
What is Orthognathic Surgery? In what cases is it indicated to perform bimaxillary surgery (maxillary advancement surgery and mandibular regression surgery) or maxillary regression surgery with mandibular regression surgery (mandibular repositioning), mandibular prognathism surgery (maxillary hypoplasia surgery) as well as the indications of orthognathic surgery and what are the procedures of Orthognathic Surgery (what this maxillary surgery consists of). Dr. Recendez Santillán shows some clinical cases (BEFORE AND AFTER) of class III (skeletal) patients who underwent Orthognathic Surgery.
Diagnosis in orthognathic surgery should include facial tomography (cone beam), lateral skull X-rays, orthopantomography, photographs and study models. Whenever maxillary surgery is going to be performed, it must be done in a team with a specialist in Orthodontics and Orthognathic Surgery (ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY IN ORTHODONTICS).

Dr. Recendez Santillán shows some clinical cases (BEFORE AND AFTER) of skeletal class III patients who underwent Orthodontic Treatment and Orthognathic Surgery. Some patients with severe maxillary hypoplasia will have to undergo maxillary advancement surgery or bimaxillary surgery (mandibular setback and maxillary advancement), and also some patients with long faces and/or open bites should be considered for maxillary impaction surgery.
Facial asymmetry should also be considered in severe cases for the performance of this orofacial surgery.
