Suite, also as in musical movements is what is meant here, I think. Stephen Stills is fantastic on acoustic guitar in this, along with his lead vocal contributions. Another interesting reaction.
Suite also refers to “a group of self- contained instrumental movements of varying character, usually in the same key“. Stephen Stills was definitely doing wordplay with this title. This song is s great example of the signature harmonies of CS&N. Just beautiful! Great choice 🌺✌️
When our kids were young, my wife and I would sing allng with this when it came on the car radio. :) Judy Blue Eyes is Judy Collins, best known perhaps for her cover of Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now. TThis is Stills' breaek up song to her. Suite is a musical term, "Fear is the lock and laughter the key to your heart."
The Judy here is Judy Collins. You might want to hear some of her songs, like; SEND IN THE CLOWNS, and COOK WITH HONEY. She had a wonderful voice and wonderful blue eyes.
Stephen Stills is excellent in this song. In the first part, the song addresses a troubled relationship. They express feelings of sadness and loneliness, acknowledging that the dynamics between them have changed. They recognize the difficulty in their connection but also affirm their love for each other. All with fantastic musicianship, harmonies, and lyrics. It's an absolute classic from a bygone era of music and songwriters. You would never hear anything like this today. I would recommend "Almost Cut My Hair"; it's a masterful song, too.
Yeah, Steven Stills fell pretty much head over heels for Judy Collins. I don't think the love relationship ever took off, but they became close friends, thru the present. Love the play on words with Suite (sweet). lol
A suite as it applies to music is: a set of instrumental compositions, originally in dance style, to be played in succession. In this case it is the different sections of this song.
Stills and Collins recorded and toured just a few years ago and talked about this... She was in NYC and he was in LA, she was coming into an important moment in her career and her therapist told her she needed to see other people, limiting him to only certain days of the week. He said he spent half his time flying from LA to NYC to have two dates and she joked that he obviously had been reading her diary/calendar. He wrote it and went to her on her birthday, sang it and although she said she cried, she turned down what he says was a proposal, "Change my life, make it right, be my lady." He gave her the guitar and left. They remained friends and she still has the guitar - a collectible Martin.
Judy Collins (the Judy with the blue eyes) broke up with Steven Stills. He wrote and played this for her. She said she liked the song but in no way did it change her mind. Judy Collins had a great voice and several big hits. Worth checking out her work. Oh, you just read all this at the end. Never mind.....except for checking out her music. Great tune!
Steven Stills wrote this for Judy Collins after they broke up. The eventually became good friends and even toured together. Judy has the prettiest blue eyes.
In music a "suite' is a piece of music that that has several sections . This one had a bunch of contrasting sections ! So it's both a musical suite AND to the sweet Judy Collins
I remember well getting this album while in high school. New super-group...with harmonies like no other band. And Stephen Stills became a major force for me.
Oh! I dearly love CSN! Wooden Ships is beautiful. Guinnevere is my most favorite song by them, though. Maybe you’ll play it and react to it if you get a chance. ❤️🕊️✨ Great reaction on this one, Sir. 🫶✌️✨
in all honesty, i don't think it can hold up to the CSNY version, but it was the first version i heard so i am sentimental about it. it is much shorter. it is still really great.@@laurallama73
CSN was one of the first super grouops. Each had gained success in other groups and then joined together, Nash from The Hollies, Crosby from The Byrds and Stills from Buffalo Springfield. Young later from Buffalo Springfield.
So good! I love this song! Thank you for reacting to it. I would also like to say your choices of what to react to are right up my alley, I have watched many lately with you. And I am watching for your next one. Have a wonderful weekend sir!💯🫂☯☮
The Beach Boys and The Association influenced this group CSN......and Yes......and you can here it in the vocal arrangements and harmonies. Excellent legendary band. Great reaction.
Err...no. Their harmonizing was accidental and had nothing to do with the Beach Boys and The Association. Nash asked to join in on a song Stills and Crosby were singing at a friend's house, and they knew instantly their blend was unique. Saying they were influenced by the Byrds; well yeah, Crosby was in the Byrds! How about the influence of the Hollies, the harmonizing group that Nash left? Stephen Stills was influenced by the blues, folk, Latin (he speaks fluent Spanish), and country. The group's music is far wider than any of the above mentioned groups, especially with Neil Young, who adds grunge, and is of course an amazing songwriter with folk and country influences.
Fun reaction man. I definitely get a kind of Mariachi vibe for that last section but I loved every section of it. All of it is so catchy. They also did some pretty cool stuff with Neil Young, and that incarnation was CSN&Y, which is just the first letter of all of their last names.
Here's a great live track from their debut album - "Wooden Ships" (co-written with Paul Kantner from Jefferson Airplane. They recorded their own version later): ua-cam.com/video/tCB5tS1L2kw/v-deo.html
You may want to look up Stacy Keach, if you don't know who he is. Most recently, he played the archbishop, friend and confidant to Tom Selleck's character on Blue Bloods, and Vesco, friend and confidant to James Spader's character on the Blacklist.
Speaking to The Guardian in 2017 about the collapse of the relationship, Collins explained that there were many reasons that led her to leave Stills. “My centre was in New York and his in LA,” Collins explained to the publication. “He hated New York and he hated therapy. And I was in both.
Rock impresario Bill Graham referred to CSNY as "The American Beatles." They've also been called "The voice of a generation." Their songwriting, messaging, and vocal and instrumental prowess really have no equal, except for The Beatles. You cannot name another group that comes close to their achievements, and yes, I like the Doors, Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews, and probably anyone else you'd care to name.
Stacy Keach? Wow! DId not know that. Judy was no fool. Keach was from beautiful and ancient Savannah and was a student of the great Robert Brustein at Yale, where he mastered, along with classmates Meryl Streep and Henry Winkler. Mr. Stills was only from Dallas and was a dropout of Louisiana State. Besides, Stacy Keach was and still is quite handsome. Can't really blame Judy...who knew she was going to make it huge. Turns out Stills may be bigger than both now. He's a Capricorn. He will get to the top of the mountain. He's a goat.
And he knew how to treat the ladies. He was married 4 times. His brother James married Judy's sister Holly around this time. He later went on to marry Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, Jane Seymour.
You've talked about different artists getting together back in the 70's and collaborating on projects, this is an example of a super supergroup. I didn't realize the back story about Stephen Stills and Judy Collins, which brings so much more meaning to this song. Thanks for the information, great reaction!
A "suite" is a musical piece comprised of a series of songs all related by subject.
Explain it man. Tax.
Oy Gavalt, I am waiting for someone to say "what is this screwdriver that comes to a point "
Steven Stills is singing about a real relationship he had with the great miss Judy Collins. So sweet because they are still friends to this day. ❤️
Steven Stills wrote for singer Judy Collins.
Graham Nash was from Manchester UK in a band called The Hollies, David Crosby was in The Byrds, Stephen Stills was in Buffalo Springfield

The harmonies are perfect, and then they added Neil Young and made Deja Vu.
I know, crazy ,right ...... :)
If it hasn't been mentioned, a suite is a musical piece made up of different parts played together as one.

Seven minutes of pure musical joy.
It’s a suite of tunes.
Steve Stills made a pretty significant contribution to Judy Collins' big hit 'Someday Soon'. Great Ian Tyson composition.
Suite TO Judy Blue Eyes Collins. They were friends.
Stephen Stills is a legend. His first solo lp and Manassas first are must listen to albums
The Judy here is Judy Collins. You might want to hear some of her songs, like; SEND IN THE CLOWNS, and COOK WITH HONEY. She had a wonderful voice and wonderful blue eyes.

Supposedly written about a relationship I believe it was Stephen Stills had with Judy Collins who was a folk singer of the 60's.
Not "supposedly", it is IN FACT about the end of Stephen and Judy's relationship.
Musically a Suite is a set of musical pieces tied together to form a single composition.
Another album I've had in my collection for years. ❤❤❤
There's often so much focus on lyrics. And lyrics matter, but I'd like to hear what you thought about the music.

A Suite can be a musical collection of songs.

The title is a double entendre; a play on words. Clevahhh.😁
Oh! I dearly love CSN! Wooden Ships is beautiful. Guinnevere is my most favorite song by them, though. Maybe you’ll play it and react to it if you get a chance. ❤️🕊️✨
Great reaction on this one, Sir. 🫶✌️✨
Guinnevere was covered on another reaction about a week ago, and it was in my head the rest of the day. So beautiful.
been trying to sort out my whole life if jefferson AP version is better, or CSNY version (wooden ships). they both are great.
@@88pjtink yup. Both great
@@88pjtink Ummm…I’m today yrs old, and finding out there was a Jefferson airplane version. Thank you. I’ll check it out.❤️😦

A "suite" is also a set of instrumental compositions, played in succession.
Listen to those soaring harmonies. Beautiful.
Its a suite because of the three parts.

my very favorite csn song. love it!
Spot on, this song is about Steven Stills trying to salvage his relationship with Judy Collins.
That last section is my favorite!
The Suite in the title is referring to a suite of music.
Oh how great!! Can't miss with these guys! ♥️🎶
another timeless masterpiece by CSN....knew you would hit this sooner or later....great react bro....peace
Still's masterpiece. Great reaction.

They played this at Woodstock in the 60s.✌️
Awesome group and album!
One of the greatest bands ever.

Suite (music), a set of musical pieces considered .
It Mariachi! Mexican Sound!

Try "Carry On"
Yes! Yes! Yes!
It was written about and for Judy Collins . Steven Stills and she wear lovers at one time …
♥
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ selection.
"Wooden Ships - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young" (by the channel: Ly1212) this is from their album called "So Far" and was one of their biggest hits.
"So Far" was a compilation - Neil Young never sang on "Wooden Ships", which was on their debut album.
Steven Stills and Judy Collins still an item.
No, they aren't, and they have not been romantic since this song was written.
Stacy Keach? Wow! DId not know that. Judy was no fool.
