I think you need to buy another letter box for him as he can smell Laila and that's why he doesn't use it...its a guess because friend has four cats and he has four litter box...he has actually used a cardboard box btw as far as I remember ..i only have one cat so no issues

Cats are very territorial, so your Tom cat may find it hard to use the female cats litter space, it's advised to have 2nd litter box. You can get a nail cutter and cut the nails so it won't hurt. Male cats will get aggressive in time and as they get closer to breeding age they will go super crazy. If you plan to neuter him then his aggression will reduce, not disappear but reduce drastically. You ll want to think about the neuter option for both, female cats will go into a different zone when they come to breeding age. All the best, it's a life commitment and you will learn something new everyday. Also everything they do wrong is because of you 🤪
