  • In a special event to launch the British Library Food Season, chef, writer and campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall talks about sustainability, food provenance and wellbeing with award-winning food writer Bee Wilson, filmed from the iconic River Cottage.
As the new decade brings new levels of anxiety about our health - and the planet’s - Hugh wants to discuss, among other things, the importance of a good meal, a good walk and a good story.
Chaired by Food Season founder and curator Polly Russell.

I'm coming to this late but nothing has changed since this discussion and as we have come out of lockdowns. I feel we have gone backward,s in some areas, particularly with home food delivery and plastic packaging. The discussion was great by Bee and Hugh and expertly presented and managed by Polly. Feeling motivated to be more proactive in growing and buying food with health and environment in mind. Thank you

Great fan of Hugh. Have most of his books. He's a super communicator and passionate about the "the good life" as John Seymour might have called it. Yes definitely ... couldn't agree more, whole food, real food, fork to fork, grow your own veg etc. Nice to hear Bee Wilson also, another great food educator.

I will never eat a BigMac again! Summer = runner bean & courgette stirfry (picked fresh from the veg patch) cooked outside on the firepit, yum yum!

Really interesting debate and discussion, but as Hugh rightly said at the beginning, there is an element of preaching to the already converted within an echo chamber. Also, no mention of individual responsibility including the responsibility of parents, which about food education and the willingness and desire to cook using fresh ingredients. That’s a huge and critical challenge, yet no real mention of this.
