I had a lot of fun learning these two songs - the Love Me Tonight soundtrack is really something special. I am very happy to hear that you enjoy my piano rendition so much!
Brilliantly played and with so much feeling and heart. One of my favorite films and you have created a new reason to love it and to love your expert musicianship.
Beautiful, as usual. As I may have mentioned before, you really capture the flavor of that era perfectly! In another age, you could have been an arranger for Ampico or Aeolian! That era was golden for beautiful music like this. Thanks for another wonderful musical performance!
Thanks, Nick! I always appreciate your comments and the fact that you continue to watch my videos. It means a lot. Arranging for Ampico or Aeolian would have been a fun job to have. Buffalo, NY, which is not too far from where I live, has a long history of involvement in the player piano and piano roll industry. Speaking of piano rolls, Ampico has a very nice roll of "Isn't It Romantic?"
@@RetroPianist Thanks for your response! I was involved with the player and reproducing piano hobby at one time. I remember the QRS factory was in that area. I even met the president of the company years back when he was visiting in the Philadelphia area. Anyway, keep up the great work and thanks again!
Two wonderful pieces played with a wonderful touch on the keys. Not sure what brand of piano you have, but it does have significant depth. I wondered what the many pieces you play might sound like on a digital piano. I have a Kawai DG 30. The reason I went digital was because of the other instruments that add even great depth to the pieces that are played. Having a grand piano sound along with strings adds so much more color to those pieces you've played over the years. If you might get the chance on furture recordings, could you attempt some of the songs that came out of Show Boat? Like Can't Help Lovig That Man, Bill, After The Ball, and You Are Love. Jerome Kern was , in my opinion, a much overlooked composer, yet the music from this show, along with Old Man River will live on forever. One other request would be any of the songs that came out of the movie Swing Time with Fred Astair and Ginger Rogeres. Thank's so much for your wonderful talent....:)
Thank you so much for your comment, Richard. My piano is a Kawai K-30 E. One of the things that attracted me to it was its resonance and the depth of its bass, which was a nice improvement over the spinet I had been playing on up to that point. I've never owned a digital piano, but I agree that their ability to add strings or other backing instruments can really enhance a performance, especially for pieces that were originally recorded with an orchestra. I have added your request for a Show Boat medley to my to-do list. I'll see what I can do! I have also been planning on doing some medleys of music from Astaire and Rogers films, including Top Hat, Swing Time, and Roberta.
Hi, Warren. Thank you for your continued interest in my transcriptions. I have been so busy this past year that I haven't had much time to work on transcriptions, but this summer I will be resuming work on sheet music for a 1932 phonograph recording of "Strange Interlude" performed by Edythe Baker. Beyond that, I have some ideas for other transcriptions (including "Chatterbox" by Sanford Green), but I'm not sure what the timeline on them will be.
Just loved this. Especially so as I am a fan of Jeanette MacDonald. Could you do a medley from 'The Love Parade'? I am lucky enough to own a player piano. Those old rolls are our only link to these wonderful tunes arranged for piano. You definitely are in the same league as those legendary pianists.
I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed my performance. I agree, player pianos are an important connection to the past and help keep the authentic old-time piano playing style alive. I can certainly put together a medley of songs from "The Love Parade." I have located sheet music for two of its songs and will see if I can hunt down several more. What brand is your player piano? Thanks again for your comment.
@@RetroPianist I have two player pianos. One is a Wilcox & White 'Angelus' and the other is a Hardman Peck 'Autotone'. Was a sad day back in 2006 when the Mastertouch piano roll factory closed in Sydney. They reproduced many rolls originally arranged and cut in Melbourne by a wonderful pianist by the name of Len Luscombe on the 'Broadway' label. I knew a man in Sydney who had an amazing collection of reproducing rolls and wonderful machines which he had restored to play them on. Sadly upon his death his collection left the country but the good news was that his entire collection was purchased by Stanford University. His name was Denis Condon. I have a couple of Ampico rolls which I can play on my straight 88 players by taping over the end holes in the tracker bar. As much as I love my piano rolls, watching and listening to you play on UA-cam is even better. Smashed all my Charlie Kunz records years ago. Not in the same league as yourself. Thank you so much for your reply. Cheers - Jeffrey
@@user-sx4mv1qm2k This particular medley is from a 1930s movie, but I would say most of the vintage music I play could be categorized as pop music from the 1920s and 1930s.
It was very romantic🎶✨🎵✨🎶🎠🌌
Thanks for listening, Reiko! 🙂🎹🎶
I am glad you are not a professional pianist, because if you were, the rest of us would be out of work. that was superb!
Thank you, Peter! I am flattered.
No matter how many times i listen to this, i get the biggest smile on my face.

Another superb video Alex!!
Thank you so much, Simon!
That's a really authentic period arrangement and beautifully played too. You put us to shame even dressing for the part! Best wishes!
Thank you for the kind words, Steve!

Fantastic performance - lovely arrangement and great audio quality !!! Also, love the outfit :)
Thank you very much! 🙂
I haven't seen any transcriptions made available for purchase lately, are any in your near-term plans?

Can someone link me the sheet music?
is there sheet music for your rendition of this? cheers
I appreciate your interest, but unfortunately I do not have sheet music written out for my rendition. Sorry!
